Double taxation? I must have missed something in all the tax returns I read every day. I guess it depends on how the small business is structured. A C-corp... yes, there is double taxation. A S- Corp or LLC, not so much. At least from my experience... but then again, I'm not the one paying the taxes, either.

Believe me - That bit about the way the world will perceive the US when Obama is President should be a Number One Contender for a Vote - As an America (the country and you guys) lover, you need that perception - The world is important, and thanks to W, a less safe place than it would be under Obama -

He's the smartest person left in the race. I agree with him on many, maybe even most, issues. He's of my generation, and I like the idea of retiring the boomers from their leadership positions. He's a lawyer. His background will be very helpful in foreign relations. He exudes leadership qualities that do not appear to be all about his own ego (unlike the other two candidates).

I remain troubled by his lack of relevant experience, but putting that in the context of the other contenders, it's not so bad.

His wife is actually younger than I am and that freaks me out a bit. Not about them, but about my own aging. I can be forgiving, however.

So, many of you guys like him? Even though he attends and supports a racist and hateful church? Not to mention he exposes his two little children to that "black values" crap.

Honestly, if you ask me, for bringing his impressional children to listen to that clearly racist "Preacher", Mr. and Mrs. Obama should be reported to Child Protective Services.

Really? Not paying attention? Doesn't seem like you, you come across as pretty intelligent.

Here are a couple:
Perhaps I'm just being oversensitive.

I'm not clear what's hateful about this. He is suggesting that the hate felt towards the US (that resulted in the attacks) stems from US action in the rest of the world. You may disagree with him, but he's not fomenting hate. And in fact, many of us had a similar reaction -- certainly, I have no problem telling you that in addition to shock, grief, fear and compassion for all the friends I have in NYC, I also thought, "Shit, it's all coming back to haunt us now." And many people wondered why it had taken so long.

Someone who is a better Bible scholar than I has already pointed out that this echoes some refrain in the Bible about damning wrongdoers. In any case, explain to me what's hateful about it? It's certainly not incorrect to say that the US has treated black people pretty darn awfully. It doesn't strike me as hateful to express outrage and anger about that treatment.

Again, not hateful or racist. Perhaps incorrect, although it's a conspiracy theory shared of longstanding and shared by many. And not all that crazy when you put it in the context of things like the Tuskegee Experiment.

And let me be clear -- it's not about whether I agree or disagree with him. It's that I disagree with the characterization that any of this is "hateful" or "racist." He doesn't say, "****** needs to die for all he's done!" which would be pretty hateful. The closest is probably the "God damn America" thing, but even that is not some irrational hate, but rather a reaction to a very specific set of grievances (and, of course, expressed with some rhetorical flourishes).

If that's the worst he has said in his 20 or 30 years of preaching, then I find it hard to understand the outrage as anything other than people looking for something to be outraged about.

Interesting debate guys - And Steve, I think it echo's the point I was making, which you seem to feel is not a reason to vote for anyone, i.e. foreign policy and the viewpoint of the world at large.

I make no judgement of the Pastors words, I can't say I have heard enough to make a sound judgement. On the face of it, he does sound al ittle OTT at times, and I believe Obama has distanced himself from some of his standpoints - The speech that Obama made last week was statesmanlike and belaid his perceived lack of experience.

Chris - I'm assuming, seeing as I have met you and understand that you have a good sense of humour, that you were being amusing in your words - ......

Heck, I'd vote for him for so many other reasons if I could - And I am hoping to be able to do so by 2012

I honestly do not care what Church he attends or what his preacher says. It has nothing to do with his ability to make the country stronger and build good relations around the world.

Not speaking for anyone but myself but, I think Rev. Wright is wrong, hate-filled and racist. Okay. So what? He has every right to be so. He has every right to be angry over the treatment of his ancestors, for that matter.

He's not running for president. Obama is. It would be nice if a reporter asked Obama exactly what he believes. Does HE think we deserved to get attacked on 9/11? Does HE think the government created the AIDS virus to wipe out people of color? No one has asked him directly. Laugh it off as ridiculous, but his personal mentor of 20 years believes it.

Add to that his wife's "for the first time in my adult life, I'm proud to be American," comment and it makes me, at least, wonder.

Diane, you are awesome! Can I print this out and take it home? I've been trying to explain this to my Dad for a few weeks, and you are so eloquent in the way you explain it. It is just great!

Foreign policy is a good reason to vote for or against a candidate (not necessarily what the world thinks of us though.) That's kind of the point. Is Obama going to do what is best for the U.S. first and foremost? Does he view us as a country that is good and noble; or as a country that has something to be ashamed of?

Personally I don't think we have anything to be ashamed of, and I want a president that feels the same way.
