Ty - for Jay I had a handheld that holds roughly 20oz. I used it to hold water (no sports drink), but I did accidently top it off with Heed at one stop.

I don't know exactly how much I drank over the course of the event. (Jay is a 30+ mile race over some pretty rough terrain). I would guess that over the course of the day, I drank close to 60-70oz of water. I sipped every 15-minutes. I topped off my bottle at the aid stations. I ate salty potatoes, orange slices and pretzels at the aid stations. I had gels and cliff blocks too.

I don't want to make it sound like I drink no water during a marathon, or long training run (or even short training runs for that matter). I just don't drink tons, I sip... over the course of a 20 mile run I probably drink 16-20oz - maybe a little more if it's a hot day. I'm sure I lose more than that... so I replenish after the run with sports drink and water.

I read a rule of thumb for "medium" sweaters that said at 55 deg F, you lose 17 oz of fluid per hour, and at 70 deg F you lose 27 oz fluid per hour. That should give you a ballpark for how much fluid to replace (i.e. in cooler weather it would obviously be less)

Of course you know I have all this totally figured out LOL!

evening! I just got back from dinner with my mommy 2000 board friend. How fun to meet someone you've known forever The kids had so much fun playing together too. It was really cute. At the end, they were exchanging phone numbers. Umm he lives in Ontario

oh hey for any dillydalliers, the VRAA registration closes on Monday.

Hi Batmomm! It sounds like you had a great time with your mommy friend. Was she as you expected? That's so cool you got to meet up.

DS 5yrs has a 103.5 fever- he's my only one that doesn't get high fevers. The poor thing isn't very happy. We had a babysitter tonight too- so do I call her?

awww night Alemma!! Hope you can sleep well. I'm hoping I can. I didn't last night.

Jen-poor ds. Does he feel crappy? that is high! Rachel's strep may have turned flu, I hope that's not what it is.

No I don't think she noticed. I'll give her a call in the morning. I really hope he doesn't get her sick. He'll be fine- I just have to wake him up in the middle of the night to give him more drugs.

So are you taking a rest day Alemma- you really should. You would tell us too. 12 days straight isn't good. You'll be a stronger and better runner for it.

I hope you get some sleep Alemma! you too batmomm!

I'm really hoping it's not the beginnings of the flu- although it sounds like it judging by the way he looks and has been coughing. I'm paranoid though. Oh I hope Andrew doesn't catch anything.

Oh poor Rachel! I hope K is okay.

Are you excited for tomorrow- you're going to rock that race!! A dad from Kevin's basketball team and cub scouts is running it with his 5th grader.

Okay, now that I've taken up 90% of the page I'm off to bed.

Alemma and batmomm- I hope you both get some much needed sleep tonight. I'm blowing that dust stuff from Peter Pan in your direction (I can't remember the name it).
