Yes, that's a picture of our doglet, Penny-a rescue dog from down South. She's a mix, probably some beagle in her for sure. She's shown resting here (probably after one of her 'runs' with me of a couple of miles...ha).
She's about 2 years now.

I've been on an avatar whirlwind-changing it every week with photos from my computer...

Nice pic-Sally.
Hang in there Larry!
Labduck-my very good friend is in your position now-as he works for the Hartford doing sampling on air/water with his GC and HPLC...ah, such good times...I do miss my chemistry...What!, I must have dozed off...I didn't like chemistry that much.

Yea, dtoce, the beagle is cuter than your cut up knee. If the knee weren't cut up it woulda been alright.
((Larry)) Runs are good for thinking, for sure. I hope you find what is best for you and Kay.
I did an about face on the run today and decided to go to the trail after all. So happy I did. 5 miles of crust busting at 12:07 pace. I tried to lift my knees and prance like I saw the deer do the other night...my own version of plyometrics. It was fun. Some little animals had tunneled under the crust and their trails showed through in places like dark veins. 29F, sleet has changed back to snow.

FF,
Watch out where the huskies go,
And don't you eat that yellow snow

rest day, which means maybe I had a couple to many "tastes" last night at my tasting group.

Wine of the night was the Spring Valley Frederick 05. Double decanted (really young wine) and it showed beautifully. Aromatically gorgeous, casis and rose petals. The flavors exploded in your mouth, very soft blackberry and tar. I'm putting my bottles down for a couple of years as I think this wine will age well. This maybe the best wine I've tasted this year, but ya know its early in the year!

I was also really impressed with the Columbia Crest Reserve Semillon Ice wine 2005. A beautiful golden hued with pineapple and honey spilling out of the glass. As you sipped this wine the sweetness to acid levels were perfect. Coconut, pineapple and melon enveloped into a long and satisfying finish....I begging for some blue cheese and pears!!

AA, grrrr
Nothing is worse than Stink Foot. That song is weird.
btw, are you anxiously waiting for the debut of Guitar Hero Aerosmith?

I grill year-round too. Think I'll stop by the store since we're out of milk and pick up veggie burgers to grill. Never tried it but DD asked for them. Mom's busy a lot this weekend so I'll do my best to be super-dad, which means not much running, but that's okay. I'll run about an hour easy, I think, today. The sun's out!

Dear Jack Frost,

I know you thought you were being romantic and all, tracing icy love notes on the windows, spreading ice and hoar frost on the sidewalks, sprinkling sleet with the sharpest daggers against a spectacularly frigid North wind and toss billowing snow of wild abandon with the commitment of one who has never loved so deeply.

I know there have been odes writ and paintings stroked and stories scribed in adulation to you. I know your winds can really sing, and your whiteness can be so encompassing as to cause vertigo. I have seen you move the birds to flee and some animals to change their coats and others to slumber for months. (I don't blame you for Groundhog Day). I have seen you break trees and summer spirits and casue me to wonder why we have outdoor furniture. Yes, you are powerful and darkly majestic and sometimes dangerously enthralling. . .

All of this, yes; but Baby - it just doesn't do it for me anymore. . . .

It isn't you, it's me.
Really.
It is time for you to just
Go away.

And take your winter weight tights, and balaclava, and gloves and thermal underwear and wind pants, and four layers of polar tech shirts with the mock turtle necks and the phat socks and wind jacket too.

And stop writing on my window.
It's been fun,
Aija

Penny Toce is a lucky dog to have found her way into such a lovely family.
Does she go awwwwooooof!! (my idea of what a beagle sound is) then she has beagle in her but I think the pic tells it all. Ahem, is she in the pet thread?

bAAby pic didn't disappoint, what a cutie pie

Mustang Mom.....you live so close to me! Does that wretched daughter every visit? If so we should all do lunch.

Bap's pic was this morning, by lunch it had turned to rain and my ride home was at a normal rainy day speed. All is back to normal except the HUGH puddle-lakes which is why I chose to get home and use the treadmill.

Winejunkie's tasting sounds divine, but I am drinking beer tonight.
I just had a Dock Street Double Bock that I brought home from Delaware last weekend.........I liked.

30 minutes yoga, 40 minutes weights, forgot to bring my swimming attire to the gym, so 40 minutes of elliptical instead.

Good luck tomorrow, Tamster, you'll do fine. I guess I missed you at the gym today, and I don't know if I'll be there (RR) tomorrow either . Not dealing with the no running thing very well today.

((Johnny)) it's been a long road, and you've been a champion about it. I hope you're logging run miles soon.

((Larry)), I've never been in the position you are. I wish you strength and a good sense of what is best in the long run. My hat's off to you on your long journey.

Hi evanflein!

Aija

Hi all,

I ran tonight instead of this morning. I just felt like sleeping in again...

10.07 miles of hills @ 8:55 pace...beautiful running weather...40 ish and clear. I forgot to wear gloves tonight and my hands were freezing when I got back. I have a 20 miler planned for Sunday and if all goes well I'll be in for the Shamrock Marathon is Virginia Beach next month...

Good runs.

I'm glad I checked in today.

Dear Aija,
I'm not too proud to take your cast-offs. Please pack Jack a lunch and send him to me.
I would love to be the object of his affection for a delightful run through swirly snowflakes.

Your friend,

....ps Burger//......excellent advise on your ''DNF'' Thread.....

thanks for posting it larry....

Aija, that was lovely. Makes me appreciate our good ol' boring rain.

Johnny, I'm with you brother. I didn't want to go to the Portland Marathon either this past year. It was tough.

I was at Home Depot this afternoon looking at pressure washers when I just had to go and pick-up the chainsaws. I thought of Flying Finn...

So here's what I ended up running: an unstructured fartlek-type progression run, with a 2-minute easy recovery jog after I had gotten up to tempo pace, until mile 5, when I cooled down the last 0.58 mi home. That makes 5.58 mi. in 52:24, a little faster than I had planned when I headed out but I feel great!

eta-I should have backed off a little. Now I'm stiff. Why do I do that? So I'll keep it real easy for several days.

Well the track workout

(400-1:47, 800-3:50, 1200-5:44, 1600-7:46, 1200-uh, oh, 800, 400)

was going like gangbusters (and so was I) when I pulled up in the middle of the second 1200 with crippling side stitches. I terminated that one at 1000m and walked it out. Started up the 800 and had to quit after 600. So I walked and cursed over to the rec centre, to call DH to ask for a ride home, and the spasm finally passed. So I jogged home, even putting on little surges on the hill home.

Weird. Haven't had *that* happen in years. Things aren't looking good for a Colin Firth encounter tomorrow.
