Yah! Good photo, Sal.

RTB, trust the Oregon Scientific (-16!)

KS, see below

OK, so it's cold here. I look at the thermometer this morning and it says 27 degrees. Yipes! And poor Sox was outside all night!

So, to run to work I put on my compression shirt (it's for baseball, but hey, it works for me), LS T-shirt, jacket....3 layers; are you counting?...

plus running tights and sweatpants over that, warm socks, Sporthill mittens, and Smartwool headband. Tada!

Within .5 mile I was tugging stuff off and stuffing it in my backpack.

KS, Hartford was great -- I thought the course was so easy -- crowd was the perfect size, fall colors scenery just wonderful, and support was super. This year they had trouble with confusing marathoners & half marathoners, I think (and poor PBJ got caught up in that). But I bet you they won't screw up that way again.

Portland is also great! What can I say -- it's my hometown! The view from the St. John's bridge can make a Portland Rose cry. Well, the St. John's bridge can make you cry without the view, if you went out too fast, heh heh. I have talked to person after person who has found the Portland course a little hard. There are some hills, but they aren't anything major, so I can't figure out why others have been disappointed in their times. We had a little wind on an out-&-back portion this year; that was kinda tough. I thought it was crowded, too, and this sort of drains me (the weaving around people), but it wouldn't be a factor for you, given your placement in the pack. I won't be running Portland this year, but will be at the party, of course. heh.

I am thinking hard about Detroit, but I have the first of several fall conferences that same weekend in South Carolina.

Jura, good to think these things through.

Just my opinion, but I think as running increases, other stuff has got to go, or at least be cut back. Strength workout should not be one of those, though it too should lessen as a goal race approaches.

The positive results Econo and Mustang Sally have enjoyed in recent races show that the swimming should stay!

Roch, sorry to hear that. I think we all understand the denial technique.

Pool at noon for me. Have a great week, everyone.

LOL at your outfit Econo, 27 is balmy
{{{{{{{{Sox}}}}}}}} go find a warm snuggly spot.
Robin, sounds like a yummy dinner. Was there a special occasion?
Yea on your son visiting Ken and running with you!!
Love having the day off, looking to see what time and where Juno is playing.

brrrrrrrr here, feel like 9 or so. Didn't bother me till I turned around to come home into the wind. 3 miles, really sad run, but hey I am done with it

Beauuuutiful sunny day, warmer than yesterday so that means I did not do more miles than degrees, but I did get in 15 miles at 9:53 average pace. I overdressed so I felt puffy like the Michelin man. Ducked into 2 grocery stores and the Y for water and bathrooms. The grocery store didn't have cookie samples out so I'm starving. Don't know why I've gotten this hypoglycemic shaky feeling a couple times lately. Lots of oats for brekky shoulda held me.
Sekrit note to Rose: It's true, they did practice with frozen balls. Sadly it didn't help.

Yep.
But today I'm resting.

Hi again! Our caregiver couldn't come until tommorow, but I needed an outdoor run even a short one. Kay was pretty calm this morning, so I popped in her favorite video "Grease" and went out in the elements, cold of course but the sun was shining and no wind. Ran in my discomfort zone working out to a fantastic 4 mile loop on camas creek. Got home, hat sunglasses frozen to my head. Kay was on the phone and didn't get wierd on me. I love living in the woods. I stripped down nude ran outside and took a dive in a powdery snow drift, how invigorating, no ill effects other than major shrinkage.

Mustang what an interesting picture! My idea of crosstraining is running on a different hill. For some reason I don't feel like I am doing anything unless I am moving through space. Wierd?

Good Runs All, Larry

Jen and I ended up with a really satisfying run today with the starting temp at -4 but at least the sun was bright and no wind. It really was a beautiful morning. The roads were mostly packed but there were large areas with loose snow, which made for harder running. We ran the first 3 miles at a 10:30 pace then she picked up the pace making our 4th mile a 9:10. We took a short walk break to get a drink but our little water bottles were completely frozen so never got a sip. We managed 8 miles total in 1:23. Wish you could've seen how frosted over we were -- our eyelashes were thick with ice and balaclavas frozen stiff.

Yoga class a little later.

Hi everyone. It's so nice to see old friends that i've missed.

Choovie, You're brave to run in that cold! And poor econo, having to endure such low temps in balmy Oregon.

Hi Rosie! Hi SS.

Roch,
I've never found that denial works for too long. Rest and heal.

I got in 6.75 on the TM in an hour. My shirt was mostly wet, so I guess it was a "medium" intensity run.

Tom

6.5 km shuffle in about 40 minutes. The sun is shining. It's so purty. Otherwise, a "meh" run.

Thank you everybody, your ideas are very thoughtful and will help me tremendously in this transition time. I am still mainly x-training, but it's good to plan ahead...
Millbot!
40min brisk walking during my lunch hour in sparkling sunshine. Beautiful! I focused on tilting the hips back and using the glutes more. As soon as I straigten up the hip and take a step I feel the hip flexor pulling. It's tight, but regular walking / running with good posture should loosen it up. I am full of hope and optimism today.
I took another day off since DW works govamint time.
She's changing employment direction.
She may put out a shingle to counsel in the private sector.
We've discussed that some.
Shopped, walked 3, and hot tubbed at the spa.
Had a snack, had fun.
Dirt, I was wondering what's up with you. Poor dear, shivering in 45.
Hellooooooo Tom N, waaaay over there. We missed ya too.

As Sal and jura have mentioned, it is a stunner today. Crystal clear. What a view of the Coastal Mountains from here. I can see the ski runs on Grouse Mt (in Vancouver) today.

Pool run including 6x50m HARD. Pool running gets a bad rap for being dull. You put some intensity into it, and before long, the lifeguard will have that worried look on his face. 51 mins total with w/u, cd and some kickboarding.

Then I went off the plan. I just couldn't let a day like this go by without a run.

3.5 miles, 5:2x/k, avg HR 129

Apparently this is the most depressing Monday of the year. BAH, I say.

Hello all! My area of the world (Bergen County, NJ) is getting hit with this cold spell as well (29F with a feel of 19F at mid-day). Took a level 2 yoga class this morning, and so I wasn't sure I'd have enough umph to get out for any sort of run this afternoon, especially since it's rather cold. So much easier to stay home, have some tea....

But I got out. Planned on 5.5, hoped for 7, ended up doing 10. Much better than the other day when I hoped for 10, planned on 7, and ended up with only 5.5. And as hally put it, now I'm done with it! And tomorrow was supposed to be my LR.

jura, I hope you don't end up like me, thinking about what to do more than actually doing it. That's how I stopped running in the first place, when I became so enamored with yoga a few years back, and pretty much cut out all other activities because I was taking classes 5-6 times a week. I think my biggest challenge is learning how to do more than one activity in a given day. From the looks of your plan, you don't seem to have that dilemma, which is a very good thing. Good luck!

Some really nice runs out there today. My 10-er was meh, slow (9:52 avg) but I finished it, and that's all that matters.

Stay warm everyone!

No running yet today, I've been gazing admiringly at the new insulation in our house. It's been a more than six weeks since the flood and it's so nice not to have to wear a parka in the living room any more. Tomorrow we get dry wall!!! Walls and ceilings!! So excited!! Just wait til we get to unpack the boxes and we aren't double rooming any more - Woot!!

SS: I had to laugh at the formula by which they measure the most depressing day of the year. It's pretty sexy as equations go. Heee:

The model is:

[W + (D-d)] x TQ
M x NA

The equation is broken down into seven variables: (W) weather, (D) debt, (d) monthly salary, (T) time since Christmas, (Q) time since failed resolution attempt, (M) low motivational levels and (NA) the need to take action.

Carry on

Hey Jessie, I agree, it is truly a blessing! Aija, great formula, but as usual I am out of tune with the world as it has been one of my better days, you would have to factor in the second law of thermodynamics for me. Glad you are getting your house back together, can't imagine how stressful that would have to be.

Hi Tom, great to see you in here.

Anyone getting tired of hearing about Brittany?

Roy did not get to go on this mornings run. He is limping around with that same tendonitus in the right front, he was quite disappointed when I closed the door on him, but best to keep him in, see how he is doing for tommorows run.

Good runs all, Larry
