Just got an email today saying they are going to put our schedule together in the next few weeks.

Best time of year for a marathon - to me personally, it's always next week - no matter the date! Actually most people prefer fall marathons...it's easier to wake up early and run when it isn't frickin' freezing, the long runs in heat/humidity are a real drag but when the cooler weather hits on race day it's fantastic. And it seems that fall marathons usually are a little more predictable weather wise - it's either going to be perfect or too hot, while in spring it could be too hot, too cold, perfect, too windy, etc.

Hey!
I think I have gotten to all the race reports, but I have been neglecting the 2 regular threads lately.

congrates Maples, and good on you for starting a serious x-train plan. That has been my major downfall for my entire 2 yr running career!

Who was that, NCRG,? 1! on the foam roller! CMT is also a good way, I had one last week and she worked glutes... but once you start you can't quit!

Moon I had custom orthos, and they didn't do squat! I continued to have problems with my R side, they also wear down like running shoes and you will need to replace them and pay again! AND I have always been a 48 hr soreness gal!! Except for today, as I used the free weight bench press for the first time is 6 months, and holy Martha I am sore today!

I ran 3 miles both Sat and Sunday, and did the EM yesterday along with weights. I sort of feel like I am wandering aimless in the running world, not sure what is next. Knee remains stable. I joined a team called GIFT, get into fitness today, we get a possible 2 points a day, 1 pt for 30 min of cardio and 1 pt for eating 5 fruits/veggies a day. Then 3 other pts offered for the week for completing a weight workout. This goes through Feb. However, I don't want to get stuck in a rut and be satisfied with a 30 min workout. UGH! I need a goal!
Later!

I thought I did already once but here goes...

I'm signed up for the 3:15 pace group. I hope I can handle it... if not I hope I can fade gracefully...

Here's where I'm at in case anyone wants to make predictions on where I'll fade...

I've only run 2x20 milers since Jay... those were good runs... Each one right around 8 min/mile pace.

The first was just fairly consistant where for 17.5 miles I ran right around 7:50-7:55 min/mile pace. At 17.5 I stopped for a moment, and picked up Jaeger my running partner, and then ran the last 2.5 with him at about 8:10 pace.

My second 20 miler, I ran pretty consistantly at 7:55-8 min/mile pace (after the first 4 miles which I ran at about 8:15 pace). Then miles 16-18 I dropped some fartlek (approx 400m - intervals) those two miles were around 7:15 min/mile pace (avg w/easy jogs between effrots)... then I slowed to 8:20-8:40 min/mile pace for the last mile and a half. (I only ran 19.5 whoops).

This past weekend, I did a trail 5k, sandwiched in between a 4 mile warmup and 4 mile warmdown. I just wanted to run 7's - 7:10's during the race. I pretty much did this, and it felt good, I felt very relaxed.

I've been doing a lot of pseudo tempo runs... tempo like runs but more at my half marathon pace (7:05 - 7:15) min miles... I've been doing about 2 miles of warm up, then 4 or so miles of "hm pace" then a mile or two warmdown. I try to keep progressing in my pace, so if the first "hm pace" mile was 7:15, the next would be 7:15 or faster, and so on... usually the 4th or 5th was at 7:05 - which felt like I was pushing a little, but still felt relatively good.

So that's really all I can dish out on my marathon goals for this Saturday, and how my training has gone. I've had some cr@ppy runs too... but I don't dwell on those. The last 3 weeks have been great. My two 20 milers have been great. So hopefully if things go well Saturday will be great. Either way, I'll be running a marathon in the spring, Saturday just dictates which one.

Hmm. I think you're a bit faster than me, so I don't know how long I could keep up with you. If you're gonna be trying to BQ this year, you'd have to go really slow to run with me. Just a preliminary guess, but I'd think that if the Mercedes is a hilly course, and I'm not running for a PR, I'd probably be in the 4:10ish range.

Yeah. Soon. Eugene isn't hilly, is it?

Okay, off to the Y for 3 on the TM.

That is great! I am curious as to why this is depressing? Are you sad to be outta your slumpy?

Depressing because it's too late for me to race my marathon. I have virtually no endurance right now.

And it's only a little depressing b/c I'm very happy to be pacing Solar instead. I mean, come on, which guy on the thread would turn down 4 hours (actually 3:59:59) of her company?

ok Just remember when Coach T is happy, we are all happy!!
Think of the bright side, you get to pace Solar, and you should be able to effectively train for a small race in April!

Thanks Pacer. ING GA is already on my radar. I talked with them at the MCM expo. My parents like in Knoxville, so I know what that course is like and it's not flat. I am racing the Knoxville Track Club 8K on Thanksgiving day though.

What I'm looking for? I'm not sure. I've done big and small races. Small races are easy to manage, but I don't seem to get bogged down in big races either. I guess I need a good date within about a 4 week window from end of march to end of april. Would like driving distance. If not driving distance from Bham, then close to the Balt/DC area would be second choice since I travel there for work all the time, and could get the company to pay for the plane ticket. Also, cool weather with little wind would be good too.

Tim This is what PC was talking about. http://annapolisstriders.org/B&AInfo08.htm

It appears to be close to BWI - it's March 1st though, so I'm not sure if it's too close to Mercedes.

If you're interested, let me know, if I don't BQ on Saturday, maybe I can come up and run it with you, and we can push each other to BQ... If I do BQ on Saturday I could come up and run it as a tune up race (but probably a slower pace than you'd be running).
Thanks Myron, it looks good, i'll have to look at the calendar and training plans. I was really hoping for later in March, and about 5 - 6 weeks post Mercedes. That way I could do 2 - 3 weeks of hard training post mercedes and then taper. Nothing is set in stone, I guess I could adjust it.
