The entire team was born in America - Hall, Ritz and Sell.

Very tragic news about Ryan Shay. What a shock.

btw - I did some calculations while at DD#1's soccer practice this morning. Hall ran the last 22.2 miles @ 2:06:30 pace after a slow first four miles. On that course that is S.I.C.K. And he wasn't even pushing it at the end.....

I'm not sure exactly what it was, just that I've never had such a strong urge before to want to eat. Like eat without stopping and it would have been very hard to stop if I didn't have my usual limit of "don't eat more than what you need 10 units of insulin for." If I didn't have that consideration, I think that whole bag of tortilla chips would have disappeared.

That was fun though being out there for almost 2.5 hours. Lots of time to think. It was really cool when I got down to the last couple of miles and I knew the 13.1 was about as locked up as could be short of a heavy weight falling out of the sky and squashing me. 13.1 miles is the farthest I've ever gone just using my legs with no sort of assistance. My legs never got a heavy feeling to them, they felt light and warm for the most part. Guess that's a good sign they've gotten a lot stronger these past 6 months.

It would be nice to take a nap right now, but I'm a bit too nervous about monitoring how my blood sugars act this afternoon to do so.

afternoon

just about to go for a run. 6-8. we'll see. maybe some strides. we'll see how the race will go tomorrow. Not feeling too great about it.

crazy about Ryan Shay. Poor guy and his wife.

Bob - you are becoming just like baggs. that man gets hit/near hits by cars all the dang time. Be careful out there and always yell at them. Nothing makes people change faster than social pressure/embarassment.

MN racing peeps - remember it is daylight savings time tonight!

I'm glad Brian Sell made it too! The guy I warmed up with today and I were talking, and it turns out his dad goes bowling with Sell's dad (they are from the same hometown). That guy just seems like an everyday guy, and he finished within 40 seconds of Ritz. Ryan Hall was just off the charts

Thanks for the reminder. I'm not feeling super great about tomorrow either b/c I haven't done long runs for over a month. Leaving soon to go tailgate before Gopher game. DH is glad I'm running tomorrow so I can be the driver and he can be the drinker!

Very nice, Scratch!

A 6-foot one?! Wow! I see deer all the time when I run. I've come within 6 feet of them before rounding bends. Scared the shite outta me!

Sure sounds like a good way to get a long run in. Nice!

To hear about stuff like that Ryan Shay dude really makes me nervous, well a least a little.

Anyway, I absolutely ripped off 16 miles today in 2:18:07 (8:37/mile). I was feeling good but really didn't push the pace until the last 3 miles. I think mile 14 was an 8:18 mile, though the next two were around 8:40. I was running at a nice conversational pace. I'm pretty stoked about that run considering I weighed exactly 210 pounds this morning. I cannot jettison any tonnage. I don't feel heavier, but it's there.

But my legs felt quite good. They got tired toward the end, but I was pushing it up hills and stuff. And I still had some miles in the tank.

holy shit...anyone read about Ryan Shay? Big time tragedy in NYC - died 5 1/2 miles into the trials. I just saw it on Yahoo. No details that I've seen yet.
Bummer on the weekend in NYC.
Ryan Hall takes home the prize.

Just a quick pop in to say hey to all. Busy week this past week taking care of the little ones (DW included) so no time to hop on here.
Beth, caught your quick update on your 10 miler - nice job!
Good luck to the NYC marathoners - LL, Pacer, anyone else?
No run for me today - I'll wait until this crap blows through and hopefully bang out 6-8 tomorrow. I only got out for 4 on Thurs and Fri for a whopping total of 8 miles this week. Lunch breaks at work will be all about getting miles in. Not looking forward to going back on Monday.

Ciao

g'd'afternoon folks.

Just daddy and the girls home today.
Went to see the Bee Movie with them earlier. Then we went to lunch.
So for 3+ hours they were very well behaved little cherubs,....but they broke down into the Spawn of Satan when I only needed the last 15 minutes in the eye doctors...oy...

Good thing they like to read, because I took away all their toys until after dinner.

So they've got that goin' for them...which is nice...

Scratch What a great run!! I can't wait until I'm up to 13 miles again...

Katholeenie I was driving to my friends house and almost hit a deer on a side road. Yes, we have mountains close, but this was down in the middle of the city!! It was in the middle of the road and I had to slam on my brakes. Thought it was a dog at first, then noticed the way it hopped and it's tail. SO not a dog.

Very sad news for the Shay family. He was 2 years younger than I am. I can't imagine losing a spouse at such a young age.

Good luck to all our racers this weekend.

Running question: How many of you use those superfeet? I'm thinking about getting some but I'm not sure how bad an idea it would be to get them before Philly. My left foot is wonky, it has been for a while but I'm noticing more and more that it feels like I'm running right on my arch, like I'm flat footed or something. My shoes (Brooks Adrenaline 7) only have 100 miles on them so it shouldn't be the shoes. And my right knee ITBS is acting up. It was feeling tight on my 5 mile run the other night but after a few miles it loosened up and I didn't feel it so much. Felt it again this a.m. on the east 3 mile run. I'm stretching and foam rolling. I might start taping it if I can remember how to do that. And if I can find the tape.

OK, 'nuff rambling. Bottom line: would the superfeet be more likely to help me or hurt me.

HH, how was the Bee Movie?

BigG, I have some Superfeet for my casual shoes and some Sole inserts for my running shoes. I like them both and I don't think you'll hurt yourself by getting some new, fancy insoles.

Happy Saturday everyone.

Good luck to all our racers this weekend.

Bob - Glad to hear you were not hurt by the driver.

Beth - congrats on the race.

Tim - nice job on the PR.

Well I am susposed to go in to work for some overtime tonight. I might not make it in though. I am just so tired.
