wow Mill - what a blessed man you are - homemade apple pie and running in the rain! You must have been a good boy lately!

I'll probably be running in the rain this weekend also - all 13.1 miles looking like a soaking wet cat (and cats are not cute in the least when they are soaking wet) I wonder if I can spray Rain-X all over me and have the rain drops just bounce of me?

7 miles in the woods, thought it might rain, but only a few sprinkles .
My calf hurts and my heel hurts, so that means I'm ready for a good race on Sunday .

Susan, tell your ortho to go pound sand.... I didn't start running until age 52 and I know of many others that did the same. I realize I'll never be fast, but someone telling me I'm "too old" to do something just pisses me off and makes me try harder.

JJJ - Maybe you should publish some of your early morning running inspired poetry.

The last few days I've been craving doing a trail race somewhere, a nice little 10-20K will do. Does anyone know of such an event (Hippo, calling Hippo) in the next month or so within a few hours drive of So. Oregon??
Links would be appreciated. I've looked at those "races in beautiful places" series that seem to be set around the bay area in Ca. and I guess that's doable, but I'd rather find a dirty race somewhere closer to home.

Rain forecast Sunday @ Weott Ca is now only 20% Tamster

I was just looking at the pace chart again Johnny - I'm getting nervous now, really doubting my ability to keep up that pace for that long. But I don't want you getting beat up by Hippo, so when I feel like I'm falling apart, that'll be my motivation. I'm going to save Johnny from being beat up by a hippo. . . . .

Tammy, you're going to do great in you HM. My experience with the half is that I've ended up running a pace that I didn't think was possible for me over 13 miles (well, except for The Ave, but there were extenuating circumstances...). During my pre-race training, it was tough for me to run five miles at HM pace, but once the race starts and the adrenaline kicks in, I've actually had to tell myself to slow down at around the 10 mile mark. That's one reason why I think the HM is such a cool race.

What labduck says Tamster........... that and visualize running at 8:55 pace. It's all in your head, and besides, I'll keep ya honest

IRC = ideal running conditions????? hahahaha. I had known about internet relay chat but somehow (ya think?) that didn't seem right. Thanks for the clarification.

It's a gorgeous day out here and I wish I was out running right now. Instead I'm stuck at work till 6pm, dealing with difficult staff members. Doing upper body work this morning didn't help my stress level the way a good cardio workout can help. Bummer....plus there's all this Halloween candy around tempting me. Candy corn, yum! Not good for my waistline, for sure.

Susan

I've never had a corn dog. I've never even seen one in NY before. I'd much prefer if it was national apple pie month instead. But I'll settle for halloween candy.

They've gotta have tofu corndogs somewhere on this coast. I love corndogs. And apple pie. But pumpkin is my favourite. MustangSally's DD's pp is the finest.

An hour and a bit at the gym. I think my abs could cut, serve, and devour a piece of that pie right now. Meanwhile, my sister has me on "sternum watch" as she thinks I'm on the brink of being too thin. I'll never hear the end of it if she tells my mother. Eep.

Blustery, rainy day. I wish I could just sip tea and knit. But I need to W-O-R-K.

Tammy, deep breath. You are gonna rock that HM.

ETA: Marie, you made my day yesterday with your response on my (now aging) RR. To inspire anyone to run, to try to run, to be kooky, put on the dawg and go downtown ... well, it's just too good for words. Thank you. And thanks to everyone whose comments I haven't, er, commented on. It was a braw weekend.

Went to the gym at lunchtime. All the TM's were being used so I went into the "women's gym" part of this health club. . . never been in there before as I enjoy the eye candy too much . . . but there were three NICE treadmills in there, plus the air temp was quite a bit cooler compared to the main gym, so I cranked out my 3.5 miles in there. Miles 2.0-3.0 I did at a 8.49 pace and miles 3.0-3.25 I did at a 8.34 pace. Seemed pretty comfortable actually, of course, I can't imagine keeping that pace for 13 miles!! oy - this is not going to be easy, but then races aren't supposed to be EZ are they?

I'd tell you all wonderful you are but all I can think about is pie

TripleJay -- I love this!

Oh c'mon Sal.. you know our minds are now running wild with that comment...

Forgot to go to Pilates today so will work extra hard in yoga tonight to make up for my oversight.

awww, how sweet . . . I'm sure he's feeling all warm and fuzzy that you are thinking of him. . . .

I know more about the longer races, sorry.

i love corn dogs

Thanks, Hippo. I'm leaning towards the McDonald's forest 15K near Corvallis on the 28th. With the 10AM start, I can pretend I'm you and make a predawn Gonzo drive to the race. Perfect, now hopefully it'll rain too and I'll be really happy.

OK - second attmept at posting . . . my last one vaporized! I'm typing on my husband's laptop and rested my hand on the "mousepad" area and things just started popping around and before you knew it, my post was gone

How'd I miss that hot kiss this morning ?

Tammy - trust your training. You've got some very good LR's completed. You'll do great!

Gin - Are the green ones Triumphs?

Well, want to go out after work today but found out my son has a band concert on Thursday. What happened to just winter and spring concerts? So, we went shopping for black shoes and then basketball sneakers too since tryouts are Friday.

So, I ended up on the TM for 3 miles at about an 8:35 pace. Probably better than going outside to avoid hills. My right hamstring still feels pretty tight.

Apple pie sounds good right about now. I also love apple crisp!! That may be on my plans to make this weekend!

snork

Tammy you will be fine, greta even. BTW, do you use Kraft caramels?
SS, Pumpkin is my favorite too. I could even just have the filling with no crust. Of course nobody is every going to be on sternum watch for me

I got kicked out of Spin class. Well not really, but I have a low priced membership and am only supposed to use my club during peak hours but can go to others off peak. Only I was told numerous times that because our club has no spin room we could go to other clubs anytime. Tonight the GM of the other club was there when I signed in and said no, I could stay tonight but could not take that class anymore unless I wanted to get a full membership.
waaaaaaaa

As far as cardio goes, the stairmill is better and of course running but I figured it was a good change of pace, use of biking muscles. Oh well.
