You know... one minute I feel like I am doing good, got my ducks in a row, holding down the fort. And then the locals attack and my ducks scatter and I couldn't find my ass with a GPS.

Twin Cities folks -- I will be pulling into Minneapolis sometime on Monday, Sept. 20. I would love to see some Minneapolis folks again (Brandy, Baggs, Goon), and meet others that I havne't yet (Crane, Sage, RFTL)... Am I forgetting anyone!??!!??

Keeping up with the literary/library theme, I hope that doesn't become a case of "A River Runs Through It", Kath

I went a couple weekends ago to my local library. Apparently I haven't been there in a bit, because the microfiche room I remembered from then has been eliminated, replaced by one single machine that couldn't even print the info I wanted (the research assistant however was helpful, but he and I pumped a few quarters in there to pay for copies to no avail)

I love my local library. In fact, DH is going to start taking little man to story time this fall!! They have an awesome kids area, migth even be better than the rest of the library! I don' tlike all of the volunteers but whatever.

Super long boring meeting this morning. My take home lesson? Women need to get bra fittings. Too many boobs resting on the table and we aren't talking old ladies. And yes, that is my ONLY takehome lesson!!

Ha! So true.

I had a bra fitting last fall, and I wasn't even CLOSE to the right size before. Before getting sized, I was off by one measurement (too big) and two cup sizes (too small!)!! Who knew???

Librarian's soapbox:

Complain to the system, but go back. The reason service is getting worse is they are cutting funding left and right and people are overworked, under/over-qualified, undertrained, and without the community going there and getting involved, it's only going to get worse. Even if you don't want to go IN to get materials, go to your library system's website. You can request books, do research, check out e-books and music, and find out about community events. Those stats count towards annual funding and it will only help the system be a better place for the whole community.

Hello peeps! I'm Maria and I'm tired. Got up at 4:30 to get showered up and flying back out from STL to NYC. Headed straight into the office and two multi hour meetings. I'm in betw right now and about to go get more coffee. Dumb allergies decided to revisit me too so my nose feels like it might pop off. Oh well, it was a fantastic weekend with all my family and I love being home with them all so it's worth it! :)

More fun if I can drag my sorry ass through this week, Jason and I are driving up to VT on Friday for a fun weekend of eating lots of local yummy foods, sipping some local brews and doing some hiking. Can't wait!

Maybe picking up my furry girlfriend, Bella, will be a good way to get in some miles tonight and pop in to see baby Alessandra. ;)

 YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love my library but use it far too seldom since I haven't been doing much reading lately. I have a nice branch a couple miles away and the main downtown one is gorgeous. I have thought about volunteering for the library, perhaps if my work schedule stays at its current fairly reasonable level I can make it work on a regular weekday basis.

HI MISSY! More Allie Kate pics please. I keep turning to the page with the Old Soul Eyes picture on it and showing people the cutest baby to have ever run the Boston Marathon!

I go to my library sometimes, but I need to know what I'm going there for - a book title, author or a project that I'm working on, for example. I have trouble just browsing, I get overwhelmed. I have the same problem with Barnes and Noble.

Grandma is taking DD shopping for school supplies! Yes! One less thing I have to do. And I love my Mom, and I'm incredibely grateful that she's doing this for me, but she so clearly favors my daughter over my son. I hope it's not as obvious to him as it is to me. I swear my Mom would never consider taking DS shopping for clothes or school supplies and she's taken DD multiple time already, though today was DDs idea, she was itching to get out of the house I think. My Mom told my sister once that she never really bonded with DS like she did with DD. When DS was born, Grandma spent time keeping DD occupied, not spending it with baby DS. I think it's because she didn't get along with her little brother growing up and hasn't let it go.

BigG, I actually get overwhelmed at the library and the bookstore too. I usually read a book review and then request it online.

Dude. In the 5 minutes it took me to download & post that pic, and then leaving for the library, the geyser was a foot larger.
This. Well, mostly just me. Dh reserves stuff online, and I usually pick it up for him when I'm out and about.

OMG, Kath!

Moe I also find that in the small community libraries the people who work there have stuff to deal with that I don't have the patience for. Some of the questions they get and the help they are asked for...it's no wonder they can't always keep a smile on their face! And I think I will soon be one of those people...my library has added the ability to check out books for my Sony reader but for the life of me I can't get it to work. So I will sheepishly enter one day and ask for help.

Missy so glad you popped in! Glad you are less hazy!!!

Oooh and my friend had her baby today, about 2 weeks early, which was good because she was measuring really really big. Luckily her duaghter wasn't as big as the predictions but still 9lbs 11 oz. Hoping to pop over to the hopsital tomorrow to meet baby Gillian!!!

Lori, yeah...and in large libraries it can be even worse with homeless and mentally ill patrons, people who sleep in the library, or worse (do I need to tell the toe nailing cutting story again? :pukeysmilie:). Don't feel bad though about asking if you can't get something to work...in all likelihood, you aren't the first one to ask.
