I remember the reds going away for a while and then a big marketing hoopla when they were reintroduced.

In other news, there were 3 mini peppermint patties in my 1.43oz peppermint pattie thingy I got out of the vending machine.

None of them were red.

I don't eat those fly-by-night m&m wannabes

I don't remember a red outage.

From Wiki:

Red candies were eliminated in 1976[9] due to health concerns over the dye amaranth (FD&C Red #2), which was a suspected carcinogen, and were replaced with orange-colored candies (this despite the fact that M&M's did not contain the dye; the action was purely to satisfy worried consumers). By 1987, the public had forgotten the scare, and the red candies were reintroduced, but they also kept the orange colored M&M's.

Here types a man who was not an M&M afficianado back in the day. I remember their removal and their reinstatement...

in 1976 I was 15 years old. I had much more important things to concern myself with than m&m's. Like the expiration date on the condom in my wallet ticking away. That's a lot a pressure on a kid.

I was 11, or maybe 10, M&Ms were a main component of my diet at that time. But I see your point...

I noticed the Peanut M&Ms in the vending machine had a green check for a healthy, junk food. Green checks means less than 15g of carbsper serving size. So, I bought a pack - 1.74oz. I figure the service size was like 1 M&M. Surprise! 1 Service Size = 1 pack. However, there were 30g of carbs so they tricked me into thinking I was eating healthy.

You should know that we are passionate about the colored candy......

and do not underestimate the power of science when combined with chocolatey goodness.

Some of us have years and years of experience with the finer nuances of M&M science.
