This is an expression that I first discovered in the late 90's. It's a polite way to tell someone to F-off, shove it or go perform an unnatural act. urban dictionary says that the original phrase was somthing to the effect of "X is too dumb to pound sand into a rat hole." then it was shortened and the meaning changed from a stupid person to f-off.

My Dad used that expression all the time.<br><br>

Heard it in the 80s.<br><br>
More common was pound salt which I still use from time to time.
