Ok, to get this out of the cheetah skirt thread, I think we need a new one.

This is from the Akron Marathon website (NOTE: the distances are slightly different than those previously listed in the cheetah skirt thread!):

The 5-person Team Relay runs along our traditional marathon route. The first runner will be given a snap bracelet to be worn on the right wrist. THE FIRST RUNNER MUST PICK UP A BRACELET AT THE START LINE RELAY BRACELET DISTRIBUTION DESK UNDER THE TENT. At each relay exchange point, the incoming runner will pass the snap bracelet to his or her team member. No relay member can leave for his or her relay leg without wearing the snap bracelet.

Forming a Relay Team
Corporations, non-profit groups, civic organizations and friends are encouraged to assemble their 5-person teams and compete!
Name On Bib
Relay Teams must be complete by August 14, 2009 to have a personalized name printed on your bibs.

So far, we have Mr Scoobs, Crazy Eye and myself interested. DrGenie is playing hard to get (heh) and we definitely need a fifth person. I'm not sure if it's feasible for anybody doing the half to participate, as you have to be at the right relay point, but someone (me?) should contact the race organization and find out. If it is feasible, I think we may have Gingerbread or Bootsie to help us out.

This only came about because I decided it might be fun to go to Akron for the event, and if I'm traveling 650 miles, I might as well do a short run, eh? So, who's in?

Free Shuttle Bus Service
Optional free shuttle bus service will be provided from Downtown Akron to the following relay points: 4 and 5. In addition, there will be transportation for finishing relay runners to return to the finish line at Canal Park. The shuttle bus service is not offered for Relay Point #3 (second runner) as it is a short walk to/from Downtown Akron and the race finish at Canal Park Stadium.

Runners are encouraged to meet their teammates at Canal Park to provide an enthusiastic reception for their final team member and enjoy the post-race experience party. There will be free food and drinks at the finish for all of our runners.
Feel free to arrange your own transportation to/from relay points; however, we strongly encourage use of this shuttle system, as driving and parking are extremely limited in some areas.

Shuttle Schedule to Relay Points
Canal Park To Relay Point #5 Revere Rd. & Sand Run Parkway 7:30am-9:45am

Return Shuttle Schedule to Canal Park
Departing relay points as follows:
Relay #4 Sand Run Parkway & Portage Path to Canal Park 8:30am-10:30am.
Relay #5 Revere Rd. & Sand Run Parkway to Canal Park 8:50am-11:00am

Walking Instructions to Relay #3 (15K Exchange Point)
There is NO shuttle to or from Relay Point #2 or # 3 as it is only a short distance from either the Start Line or Canal Park Stadium (Finish Line). For #3 runners should head East on Exchange Street (approximately 10-blocks) to Brown Street. Turn right and head south 2 blocks to Crouse.

I haven't raced in far longer than that. If you and Genie can figure out which one of you can do the 3 mile leg and which one the 5 mile leg (5.7 I think), then we are set!

I, btw, am also slow as hell and whatever leg I end up doing will be run/walked fer sure. So this relay team is so not about speed, if anybody is worried about that.

If we're worried about the time constraint, let's calculate it here:

3.5
5.7
6.3
2.8
7.9 - CrazyEye ~95 minutes

Not sure how this will effect my 'thon training, but I'm very interested. I could do one of the longer segments. I won't have a cheetah skirt, though... I am looking at getting these:

Pick me!!!!

Pick me!!!!!

wait the last time i relayed a marathon, i didn't get no medal....do i get a medal if i relay?

You want to do 5.7 instead? Cause I'm happy doing whatever, I'm mostly there for the par-tay!

Novia, aren't you registered for the regular half marathon? And hey, if we end up with a ton more people than we need for 1 team, how about 2 teams (hope springs eternal, what can I say).
