and the Art of Road Bike Maintanance.... is it something everyone with a bike should have? Sounds like a helpful little book to keep me out of the LBS all the time.
What say you?

Don't know that I'd say that everyone who has a bike needs this book. There are certainly other good sources of info, as Dan points out. And not everyone has to do their own wrenching on their bike, although I find it enhances my ownership experience.

I have the book and have found it very useful. I also like the fact that I can drag it out next to the bike and refer back to it, which is sometimes hard to do with my laptop when my hands have bike grease or dirt on them.

Our cycling club is planning on having detailing parties when the weather gets warm enough to set up on the leader's driveway one evening.

I'll be going!

I'm willing to try being a mechanic, as long as someone who knows what's going on is there to bail me out when I try to ride the bike with the handlebars backward.

Thing is, he managed to get it back together, working great....
WITH only a few parts left over. lol
That dryer worked fine for another 15 years.

I am pretty mechanically inclined, and of course DH is (he's a ME), so I can take something apart and put it back together in reverse order pretty easily. When I'm doing a bunch of things, though, I sometimes forget!! LOL Last year I was trying to figure out how to lower my handlebars, so I was taking the spacers out, but I couldn't get it all seated back the way it was. JR just kind of told me here what to do, and I got it all back! Pictures do help, though. I'm a visual person for sure!
