I probably should have just PMd SGH for this but I figured someone else might need this sometime too.

I miss doing yoga but I know I can't do a lot of weight bearing poses (Warrior, et al) right now. Which also lets out the majority of the sun salutation. Is there a series I can string together where I can work around the knee for now, to at least keep moving a little since I can't really do anything else?

I'm also going to look on yoga journal's website, but I thought you might have some basic ideas to build from. I can probably try some of the sitting twists because I can bend the knee, it's straightening it that's the hard part right now. Thoughts??

Not knowing your exact injury and the restrictions your doctor gave you, I'm hesitant to suggest something specific for you. You can give me more information if you like, and I'll see what I come up with.

Hmm, good point, maybe I'd better ask the PT. I was just trying to think of poses that aren't hard weight-bearing or put too much stress on the knee, but I guess there really aren't a ton??

When my knee was kaboinked... I was able to my pilates tape which helped with some modifications. ( I use a "Pilates for Dummies" tape that does a pretty well rounded workout)
I also did a bunch of exercises with an exercise ball with the PT to get the blow flowing in the joint to help heal it.. They will show you. You can just do them on both legs to keep the strength even.
Water is often the only way to keep moving- no impact.. but even then I initially it felt pretty weird on my knee.

Thanks RA.....I keep forgetting you've been through this already.
I am going to try some exercises in our pool here this weekend. The gym one is usually really crowded in the summer because of the hotel next door. (I go to Ballys)
I asked the PT yesterday and told him what I was already doing. He reminded me that John Elway continued to play professional football on a torn ACL and did not have surgery, so he said whatever doesn't hurt, I can do up until surgery time--preferably no heavy weight bearing. I have some exercises he gave me and I know I need to build up the quad because the muscle is weakened, so I am going to try and work out a short routine tonight and see how it goes.

He also said I may be able to run again, just no trail and hill climbing for a while because of the twisting and uneven surfaces, so we shall see.

Sounds like you can practice any yoga poses that don't aggravate the knee, then. That's good news!

Unfortunately yoga poses that strengthen the quads are probably going to hurt right now (chair, the warrior poses, tree, etc.)

I bet pilates would be very do-able for you.

Chair I think I can do, definitely not warrior, too much weight bearing. I could try tree but I might not have enough stability in my knee. It still buckles a lot.

I had russian stim on it today in PT. He said it was gonna be uncomfortale but I kinda liked it. And he had me on the leg press without weights. I could do that OK. But this is the easy PT, after surgery they say will be much harder.

OY!!!! That's more like what PT was yesterday!! Russian stim--NOT fun. They didn't have it up high enough last time which is why it didn't hurt. Last night--NO LIKEY!!!! It's basically high octane electrostim that's high enough to make the muscle contract on its own, named for the Olympic Russians who used to use it to make their muscles bigger.

I repeat, NO LIKEY!!!!!
