Hi Everyone. It's been a difficult for many of our members in the last 12 months, notably Sally's tragic loss and here is hoping that the pain we felt over that event will subside with time. Gustav will never be forgotten!

On a personal note, my partner live together contentedly in Fredericton with wedding plans for the summer. It is hoped that there will be involvement from my running family when the time comes. More on that later.

In the mean time, my foot was operated on successfully on Dec. 15 and I had the stitches removed last week. It healed up fast but the swelling subsides even as the numbness continues on. I did my first cross training session yesterday at our gym here with 20 minutes of cycling on the stationary followed by a light jog (@7 mph) for 1 mile and an attaempt on the eliptical that ended 2 minutes in as my achilles rebelled strongly, but all told it was a decent return to being active. I have 10 pounds to shed before getting into any serious running again but hopefully by the end of January, I will be out on the road again.

In terms of hopes for the year, perhaps a fall half or marathon, either Toronto or new York. Looks like I need to re-qualify for NYC as they informed me yesterday that my last marathon - in the fall of 2009 - was outside the allowable limit of time, notwithstanding injuries.....oh well, the qualifying time is easy anyway. I will likely focus on 10K's this year here and in Maine and try & regain my fitness. Hopefully the foot issue will be a thing of the past.

I am hopeful that a 40 minute 10K is doable at the age of 60. I think it is. A 5K in 19:00 would be nice and a half in 1:30 with be icing on the cake- or sub 3:10 marathon. All the best everyone. Anyone else out there got any dreams?
