Well, you are the guy that usually puts in at least 12 before dawn ... and therefore in this new downsized Kick era, the designated thread starter...............I'm running early if I start before 7:30 AM.

so, good morning KS & all who follow.......I see KU should have some relatively easy games in rounds 3 & 4. (can't buy this new way they started counting the rounds this year). Hope they can turn it on when they reach the final four.

4 easy miles in the woods. starting at 7:45. Boring stuff.....No vicarious living through me....Dove's the one we want to live vicariously through....(poor english, hope that makes sense)

Good Morning.

Is 7:45 your start time, johnny, or your pace time?

today is a rest day for me, but wanted to pop in and say hi. I took Monday and Tuesday off work, and got in some running both days. Monday was intervals 3x1.5 mi (2:00 recovery). for a total of 7.7 miles. Then yesterday was just an easy run of 5.2 miles. After about 4 days of fighting off a cold bug, I think it's winning today, so I'm glad it's a rest day for me.

Johnny.... I'll live vicariously thru anyone spending quality time in the woods these days.... ours still have plenty of ice and snow.

Take care of that cold, Tammy!

Rest day for me too......to let the foot recover from the injection. By the time I went to bed last night it was feeling better than it has in weeks, so yea, I think it's working. Will see how it feels on a run tomorrow. Just as well, as it's snowing like crazy today. Tonight's job is to go order larger shoes!

Hi Kicksters!

You don't want to live vicariously through me. I'm boring. Now someone like our ol' SS - there's the life to lead! I wonder what hemisphere she's in today?

Heme - good plan on getting something with a wider toe box.

Nice 12'er ks.

6 miles this morning, kind of a slog. 8:32 pace in a sproinkless progression run. As I started out I said to myself, "I'm tired of running in 33 degree temps and starting cold." Of course I quickly warmed up and had a decent run, but really, this winter has gotten old. I want shorts and singlets.

I'm fighting a cold, too. Sore throat appeared Sunday morning, and the cough arrived yesterday afternoon. Still minor at this point, so I'm putting up a good fight.

OK, how's this for exciting? Ran about a mile each way to the post office to mail in a registration form for a local 5k. Then I drove to the town where the 5k will be and ran the route. 5.1 miles in total. Efficient and exciting.... not....

John, I'm right around 14-15 miles now on my long runs. I wasn't able to get in my planned 13 last wknd (only had time for 9), so it's been a couple weeks now since I've gone long, but I think I can handle about 14 this weekend.

It's been lovely here today, around 57 and patchy sun. I'm home from work and heading out for 8 miles on the bike trail.

I hope it helps calm my mind...I've been agonizing over being unable to sufficiently help a brother in financial distress. Life is so hard sometimes.

Sunshine here too, Dove! Perfect weather, in fact, for my first group ride of the year. It was awesome! http://connect.garmin.com/activity/74761151 There were 7 of us, and I was in the group of 5 up front. Then there was a married couple back quite a ways. I recognized a few of them from a group ride I did last summer. I tucked in and drafted a little going into the wind for part of it. See where we went east, away from the lake? I didn't know they were doing that, and it freaked me out a little, but it was fine. This was my 2nd longest ride ever and yet I think the fastest because I only unclipped when we took a few breaks and I don't usually ride on those open stretches of road on my own.

Well, I don't know how exciting it was... but I ran home from work today! First time this year, and I might've pushed it a week too soon. So much ice on the shoulder of the road, I spent a lot of time running IN the road, which pleases the pinhead drivers around here to no end. Still... ran that rolling hilly route (10.1 miles) in an average 8:20 pace, so I'm happy with that. I wasn't trying for any specific speed, and it's a lot of slower-on-the-uphills and faster-on-the-downhills kind of thing. Clear sunny skies and temps in the upper 30s... hey, it works for me!

Hi all. I'm a day late posting my Wednesday Tempo run, but it's about the only exciting run I have on the menu this week, so I'll share.

I hoped to do 6.33 miles on a treadmill on Tuesday while I was out of town for work, but it turned out I didn't leave myself enough time to run so I only stretched and did some squats and called it a day. This week's tempo needed to be 25:00 long and at least 3.25 miles since I was adding 5:00 to last week's 20:00 tempos that were around 2.75 miles in length. I took into consideration ksrunr's comment about gauging tempo pacing on current fitness level rather than last fall's, so I set my sights on a 7:30 - 7:40 pace instead of 7:20'ish.

I was surprised when I got outside in shorts and two layers of shirts to find that the temperature was only 25F. I'd thought it would be in the middle 30's, anyway. Warmup time (10:00) was the only period that I was a little cold, and then only when the wind was blowing. Oh, I froze during the short portion of the cool down when I had to run into the wind, as well, since I was sweaty at that point.

I executed a 3.5 mile tempo run with splits of 7:36 / 7:36 / 7:10 and (3:30). There was a fairly steady headwind going out and tailwind coming back that accounted for the :25/per mile difference between miles 1&2 and 3&4. I will say that a little bit of the progression was due to increased effort, but not nearly all of it. Time for the 3.5 miles was 25:52, giving me an average pace of 7:24, only a couple of seconds slower than when I was aiming at a faster pace, so mission accomplished, I think. I'll try a 30:00 tempo at the same pace next week.

Happy Thursday.
