So... I'm doing my first in 8 days. So I'm finally thinking about it.

Ok... swim - whatever they got, I'm good. Water is water, rough I'm cool with.

Bike... Hmmm... yeah see I don't HAVE a mountain bike nor have I ever ridden one. But I DO have a Cyclocross bike, so that's what I'm bringing. That gonna work? Well, I guess we will find out. Should I soften up the tires and go with less pressure to take the abuse? Like HOW much pressure so I dont smash out the rims? Am I worried about nothing?

run.... ok, trails - yeah I'm good here. Whatever they got, throw it at me, I can always walk, or slide down the hill on my Azz like I did at the warrior dash http://www.brightroom.com/view_user_event.asp?EVENTID=64889&BIB=65072&LNSEARCH=1&PWD=

so I guess I'm just worried about the bike. Any tips?

Ohhhh, you are going to have som serious fun!!! I can't wait to hear all about it in 8 days!

I got to say, Ron, you are a brave man! Is this a singletrack with tight corners, roots, or sand and such, or more like cross country type course? Anyway possible to do a pre-ride? Or talk to somebody who is familiar with the terrain? I am sure JR will chime in to give you tips about tire pressures etc.

I have no doubt you will be fine. Just don't take it personally if somebody (even female riders) yells at you to move over or get the h*ell out the way. And don't let your ego hurt if you have to walk up hills.

HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!

Hah, ya know I didn't even look. So now I did

BIKE: The 10 mile bike segment is a generally fast course, but includes some sections of difficult singletrack. Two laps of the 5-mile course will be required. There is one difficult descent where a dismount is recommended. There are several small (less than 50' elevation) climbs and descents on the course.

And yeah, I expect to be chicked. Happend at the Cross races too, some of the fast ladies would ride the men Cat4/5 races too.

Awesome!! I did my firt Xterra in last month and had a total BLAST! I'm a mountainbiker first and roadie 2nd so I really tore up the trails only to get wacked on the run (it was my first trial run ever ... hmmmmm coincidence?). Nobody was riding cross bikes at the event but i'd say 80% was ridable from a cross perspective (some double track ... some easy single track .. and some quite technical sections with short steep/technical climbs). Especially if you're an accomplished cross rider. You might want to ride the course the day before if possible to help get yourself mentally prepared. Good luck and looking forward to the RR!
