So for those of you who didn't know, wyrillco = courtney.

1. Why do you run?
Because I like it. Most of the time. I started out running to see if I could and because my cousin kept trying to convince me to run a local 5K. And here I am 5 years later, and I've just run my first half. I also run to keep my weight in check. But mostly I do it because it makes me feel good, pure and simple.
2. What is your greatest accomplishment?
Oh jeez. I have no idea. Running wise, it's the half I just did. Lifewise, it's probably making the whole big lifestyle change a little over five years ago. I lost a bunch of weight, took up physical activity, and really changed my life. I haven't really accopmlished much job-wise, or anywhere else. Mostly I think it's having a good marriage and a good relationship with most of my family.
3. What is your motto/theme song?
I don't really have a theme song, but my motto is something like "Why not?" I mean, really, why not? There are so many things that people tell themselves or others that they can't do, and I say "Why not try it?" to a lot of people. I just don't think there is much I (or you) can't do if we make up our mind to do so. And you know what, if you fail, who cares? As long as your failure doesn't result in loss of life or limb for you or someone else, it's really pretty irrelevant.
4. How do you deal with bad runs?
bitch and moan to you guys. What can ya do? We all have them. But any run is a good run at the end.
5. Do you reward yourself for good runs? How?
Not so much... After I hit new mileage marks this summer, I was thrilled, and every once in a while I'd reward myself with ice cream. It's my fave.
6. Who do you admire most?
Mom. She raised us kids by herself for about 5 years after life dealt her some real shitty cards. She's super strong, and she's the one who instilled in me that there isn't anything I can't do if I want to.
And my Grandad (mom's dad). He has always been this awesome grandparent to me. He did all the dad stuff with me that my dad didn't do. He taught me how to not throw like a girl, and to this day, that is the one athletic feat that I am confident in. I am not terribly coordinated, so in sports I tend to be so-so. But I was a rock star catcher in softball (fastpitch) when I was in jr. high and high school because I had a kick ass arm. I used to be able to throw people out at second from a crouch. But it's more than softball that he's taught me. He taught me how to work hard, and how to know when it's time to stop working and be with your family.
7. What is the greatest advice you have ever received?
My grandad always says that if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right. I sometimes am a slacker when something comes easy to me, and I try hard to remember this phrase.
8. What do wish you had learned younger?
How to be active. I would have saved myself a lot of heartache over being fat if I had learned this. But, I learn my lessons best the hard way...
9. What do you wish you could do but can't?
Sing? I don't know. I'm not a good singer, but I'm always singing about something.
10. How would your friends describe your personality?
Happy, bubbly, perky, funny, positive, smart. I used to hate the bubbly/perky part, thinking people were telling me I'm ditzy. But I've kind of come to terms with it, since I think that is the part of my personality that DH loves the most. I get SUPER excited about stuff. I talk very fast, and wave my arms around a lot. My DH calls me his annoying ray of sunshine in the mornings. He's SO NOT a morning person and I wake up cheery! Makes our drive to work in the AM interesting.
11. What do you wear running? favorite outfit?
Tights/compression shorts or a skort with a tee (tech). In the winter, a long sleeved/panted version of that. I am a cold person most of the time, but I warm right up when I run. So I try not to overdress.
12. What has been your favorite race?
Right now it is the Vegas Half. But I've really enjoyed the Muddy Buddy race I do every year, and this little tri in the town I work in.
13. Do you have a goal race right now?
No.
14. What makes you happy?
I always say my favorite part of the day is when I snuggle into bed with DH and my kitties. I'm totally lame that way! Other stuff...
-My brother. He and I fought in HS, but now that we are both grown ups, we are great friends. He's funny and just a boatload of fun to be around. I'm also incredibly proud of him for his Army achievements (many, but the Bronze star is the big one) and for his efforts in school. He was not a great student in HS and college, but once he came back from deployment, he's been a straight A student. It makes me so proud, because I have always known he had it in him.
-Someone else said this in their POTD, but I love getting the mail. It's like a mini-Christmas you get all year round.
-My nieces. I don't have kids or want kids, but they sure do make me happy. My oldest niece (7) drew a picture at school of she and I, and below it it said "I want to be like my Ant." She told her teacher that she wanted to be like me because I ride my bike and like to read. If there are two things I want to model to her, that pretty much sums it up.
-Going home. I love going home to my mom's house.
15. Tell us one interesting thing about you that you haven't said (at least not often) on this forum in the past.
Hmmm... I'm a pretty open book. Maybe I'll think of something later...
16. Tell us one interesting thing about another user of this forum that has not been posted (at least not often) on this forum in the past (make sure the other person will not object to posting the info!). I have only met a few people, and I don't think I know anything super sneaky about them.

Ask me questions, if ya want...

Nice POTD Courtney!

You should add that you and mom accomplish quite a bit for the men and women who are serving their country. That's something to be proud of.

She's a nice person due to the running sockes she got a couple of years ago that have the Canadian Maple Leaf on them.

I like her because one day on a very busy street corner in Toronto she hopped right into my car, looked at me incredulously and said, "You really do have a Porsche. I thought you were kidding."

Me?? Kid??? really????

Keep that great attitude about life, woman...it's a winner.

That was so funny.

Torque - I wear those socks ALL the time!!

Tim, I really think of that as much more of mom's accopmlishment. I'm just a helpful cog in the wheel. But she makes me proud, too.

Great POTD, Courtney!

I loved your answers! If we lived closer together, we would definitely hang out together (& play Wii)!

Definitely!!

And it's so nice! It's like having a friend who you share your entire history with. And they have to love you, even when you are a pain in the ass.

#14 ·
Yeah, Courtney!!

I liked answer #7, grandad was a smart man! And is it possible to teach someone to be cheerful in the morning? I hate mornings! It is 10:13 and I'm still grouchy.

I'm really proud of all your hard work for your half. I knew you could do it. Are you going to Moab in March, or just Oct?

#16 ·
Great POTD! I loved your answer to #10. My Nana used to tell me I wouldn't be able to talk if I sat on my hands. I bet she'd say the same thing to you! Thanks for sharing - I really enjoyed reading and I love your outlook on life!

Oh, that was assumed... I figure everyone knows that by now.

I'm a HUGE Dallas Cowboy fan. I have been for years. I started liking them back when Troy Aikman joined the team. I was like 10 then, and I thought he was cute. Still do. I wear his jersey for every game.

Chelle - My mom has always threatened me with tying my hands behind my back to see if I could still speak.

Soli- I don't think you can teach the morning cheeriness. I've been working on it with DH for years! And I'm not sure about Moab yet. But definitely in the fall... When is the March one again? My 30th b-day is in March, and I should do something fun for it!

Great post Courtney.

So when are you gonna come race with me? There are lots of races (especially some goos trail ones) and its a nice short flight.

If it wasn't so frickin' hilly there...

But I'd love to sometime, seriously. My DH and I would like to visit that area together, since he didn't make the trip out there earlier this year.

courtney,
You're one of the CH/PRTers who always makes me smile....I hope to meet you someday! ♥
(we won't even have to discuss the packer-cowboy rivalry)

Oh ya...I forgot. You owe me a run.

Its not all hilly. There are a few flat places to run...just a few.

But I don't know about that Cowboy fan stuff. This is Niner territory.

I do owe you a run! I'd love to run in Golden Gate Park. It looked flat and pretty!

WTPJ, I would love to meet you as well! You seem so fun.
