On this day in 1959, Helen Folasade Adu, better known as Sade, is born in Nigeria.

I have a code. Shocked out of a sound sleep by the "wake the kids" alarm today. I'll probably hit the elliptomachungulator at lunch.

Quietly while you were asleep
I asked that she'd always keep you protected

Group trainer ride at the warehouse. Schedule called for z1/z2 but the group was doing 6 x 5 min at hard pace and I held back, but not enough. 17.8 miles in 1:08 for an average of 15.7 mph, 133 bpm and 144 watts.

The chill is back in our mornings just in time for increased daylight with the sun rising earlier and earlier. I am among those who love to run in the darkness of the morning, so to see the light pushing its way in this morning as I was coming back from my run, I felt as if I was being robbed of my winter ways. I'll adapt -- that much I know -- but I really do enjoy the darkness of morning.

Neil: I'll be paying attention to the Capello-Beckham war of words and to see if Becks gets a call for their next match against Scotland.

Me...

4 mile run (probably closer to 4.5 or 5) early this morning. Easy pace. Legs tired from yesterday's Trainer session and gym routine with increased weights. Followed by...

40 lap swim with 3 pickups of 6 to 8 laps. Average 59 secs overall and 53-54 on the intervals. Got to start more proper speed. And do more drilling.

Sade? Geez. Speaking of bad music.

This looks really cool except... In the first plan it made for me, right after the warm-up, I got this:

1 x 25yd Streamline Kicking, rest 0:10 / 25yd
Freestyle kick with arms held out front in a streamlined position. Fingers overlap with one thumb lightly gripping the opposite hand. Lift your chin above the water to breath without turning your head.

That would be it for me. With my kick, I would never get to the other end of the pool!!

Good morning all.

66 minutes of combat focused training.

Then off for a 5 mile run just under 8 mpm. Hoping to get a lunchtime ride in if the rain holds off.

Thor I really hope he gets the call up - It would be his 100th Cap which he deserves - he is a great player and he is also training at the minute with the mighty Arsenal during the MLS off season and supposodly is helping out loads with the kids at Arsenal

2600 in the fishbowl. 1:05:56. Still painfully slow...

T1 was interesting as I got stuck while putting on my new tri top...

RUn sucked. Nuthin' in the tank. Left it all in the pool. Cut the run short, as it's cold and I didn't want to end up walking. 3.8m, 33:33, 8:46pace. Then, of course, I had to get out of said tri top...

Totally agreed. And on top of that, he must be very excited for MLS to start up again, because LA Galaxy, his team for the moment, just acquired Carlos Ruiz, a proven scrappy goal scorer. With Becks feeding pretty boy Landon Donovan and Ruiz, LA suddenly went from last to first.

One of the FUNNIEST phone calls I ever had with my mom was when she was telling me about her first sports bra shopping expedition....and "expedition" it was.

First, she was with dad (who hates shopping, much prefers "hunt and buy".
Second, she had no CLUE what size to even try on.

So....
there she is...in the dressing room....
STUCKER than stuck.
all contorted in it, her arms crossed up by her nose (ladies...you know the position).
And she can't move...at all.
nope
completely cemented in the thing.

What does she do?
She calls to the attendant person...
"is there anyone else in here?"
"No Ma'am (puzzled voice)
"then, can you ask my husband to come in here........pllleeeeassse"
"uhhhhh....ok"
Dad: "WHAT?"
Mom: "i'm stuck"
Dad: "what do you want me to do?"
Mom: "GET ME UNSTUCK"

So now, dad has to go in there and help get her out...
and the two of them start laughing...so hard that mom almost pees her pants.
Dad grumbles: "I stopped doing this to women in college!!"
lol

Come to find out...
mom had somehow managed to get one on that was at least 1 size too small, possibly 2, and very nearly ripped it getting it off.

She said...."You LIKE wearing those things???"
Me...."well, they aren't fashion statements, but it's better than NOT wearing them. BTW, Mom.....they make ones that zip up the front. "

She decided that the shopping trip counted as her "aerobic workout" for that particular day.

Yup.

See.....mom and dad have "jobs."

Dad's is to "take care of shit." (he does this quite well).
Mom's is to "identify shit." (She's better at this than dad is at his).

Soooooo.....I guess in her mind...this qualified as "shit."

In the garden: Mom has a snake try to crawl up her leg ('nother hilarious story). She manages to get a flower pot on top of it.
She calls dad....."come here RIGHT NOW"
her: "there's a snake under that pot"
him: "I suppose you want ME to kill it????"
her: "that's shit"
him: "oh." (He HATES snakes...) then, goes off to get the hoe.
14 mile run this morning as the freezing fog settled in. It was pretty cool to see thousands of tiny ice crystals suspended in the air glistening in the light of the street lamps. Then the asphalt bike path and adjacent street turned from black to white and became quite slick. I saw one nasty accident with 4 police cars, two ambulances and one fire truck on scene. Managed to stay upright and avoid any encounters with moving hunks of metal. All in all, a fun early morning run.
