On Jan. 15, 1967, the first Super Bowl was played as the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League defeated the Kansas City Chiefs of the American Football League, 35-10.

We were reminded that it's still winter in New England this morning. Yesterday's 9" of fresh snow and this morning's 19F was a harsh reminder that last week 60F days were anomalous. AndyMan was out front at the appointed 5:29 but no sign of Iron Boy. We gave him an extra couple of minutes and then took off to find The Diesel. It was just after the two mile mark that his swiftness came tearing up from behind. We negotiated bent tree limbs and slick ice roads to complete the usual 5.65m loop.

No Snow here just gales and constant rain for the last 20 hrs - and the forecast is more of the same for the next few days

I will post my weekend workouts as well - I try not to go on the pc at home lately due to political upheaval at my Tri Club - usual small club politics and I am trying to keep clear from the constant bickering and in fighting

So Sunday - 70 mins run nice and easy low HR stuff
Monday 2hrs 20 on Trainer (along with Harry potter and teh order of the Phoneix) followed by a 10 min brick run

Tonight

Due to be a fartlek run for 40 mins followed by 60 mins swim

I may bail on the run if the wind and rain keeps up and do an extra swim

Have a great Tuesday

Great football games last week. I'm really hoping to see Green Bay play in the SB again, Farve is having a good season. I'm really torn between hoping NE loses (so we don't have to listen to Boston fans anymore) and hoping NE wins (so we don't have to listen the the 72 Dolphins anymore). I got a big, flat-screen TV for Christmas and I'm still enjoying just watching the games, no matter who is playing.

A chilly 13 degrees here in the Chicago area with wind chills down to zero. After hemming and hawing, I finally wimped out and decided to do my speed workout on the dreadmill. Only my second day this winter inside, so I guess it isn't too bad.

11.5 mi in 90 min including 5 x 1 mi repeats with 1 min recovery. The repeats were at 6:11, 6:03, 6:00, 6:00 and 6:00 pace with HR starting in the mid z3 and going up to low/mid z4.

Tonight - easy 45 min on the trainer.

Our tri-club did a group purchase of computrainers recently and mine came in last night! So I'll be spending the weekend playing with that new toy.

Have a great one everybody!

I just finished my run and some yoga. It was sunny and warm here in beautiful Munich today - no sign that it's the middle of January. Not sure how far I ran, but did an hour with some pickups (no, not the kind that will have my wife mad at me!) to 5k pace. It felt good to run a bit faster. I'm sore from the weights yesterday, so we'll see how swimming goes tonight.

Guten Morgen!

Traveling in Europe this week. Did a pokey 3 mile (or 5k) on the hotel treadmill. Pretty dreary in a windowless gym. Stomach still bugging me so feeling like not much left in the tank. Need 5 tomorrow before setting off to Merry Ol' London.

Bike commute home for me today. At least, that's what Tuesday would be back when I was a triathlete. Now it's a rest day. Knees feel better than yesterday, but not pain-free.

3000 yds in the pool this morning.

Apparently, I may be in the process of fixing my flip turns....they were getting to be too "bunched up" for my coach's liking. yay.

AND....each one of my 5 x 100 IMs got better as I did them.....she said so.
woo hoo. (that was good, cause they sorta hurt in that "you've worked your tail off" kinds of way).

3 mile recovery run in the plan for lunchtime today. Hopefully I'll be entertained enough with my thoughts to not want to launch myself into traffic just for a little excitement.

my knee is not happy with me today, I think it's my IT band. I'm going to put that strappy thing on it and try for 3 miles today. I have a long run scheduled this weekend so I need to be careful

Then we met again at lunchtime for a 2000-meter swim
500 warm up
2x 200, 150, 100, 50 - mixed it up with swim/kick/pull
400 swim - alternating 50s, odd=fast; even=recovery
100 cool down

That's it for me today. I could use some of the New England snow to give me a day off of work.

Yesterday was an unexpected rest day... the family is going through a major stress event currently. So I took the kids to the mall for some comic relief.

Tonight I'm running. Depending on the ice situation I'll either be on the dreadmill or outside for a tempo run.

Slammed busy at work. People suck. Not all. But a lot. That's all there is to it.

Me...

5.65 mile run early this morning. Showed up a few minutes late for the usual start and had to catch up. Thought it would take me until the back-stretch of the course, where I thought I might snag them at the water run-off crossing, but much to my surprise, I saw them just as I rounded the corner after the big downhill. Legs felt amazingly fresh. Lots of laughs. Followed immediately by...

1 hour Trainer session (on Tri-bike!):
o WU - 20 min (still reading "A Place Called Freedom"
o 2 x 2' G6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5
- On my Tri-bike, with a proper fit and much better hub in the wheel, not to mention a much smoother and more comfortable ride, I averaged an awesome 297W without pushing too hard when if I had done the exact same workout on my old bike, what I was previously using, I would have popped out, maybe, 267W. Noticeable difference!

It's all about the fit (and hub), Tri-peeps!

Let the official serious base build begin!

The temp wasn't too bad but with fresh snow on the ground, I did an interval on dreadmill, like Mike. 8 miles including 5 x 600 with 90sec recovery. Easy one due to a 10k-tuneup race coming up on Sat. Kept the incline at 0%. HR didn't go up high enough (Z4) at 6:59 pace, so kept playing with the speed to bring HR higher. The last two were at 6:31 pace. Not sure how accurate the dreadmill was. HRM becomes more useful for a interval on dreadmill.

Recovery swim later.
