On Jan. 27, 1967, Astronauts Virgil I. ''Gus'' Grissom, Edward H. White and Roger B. Chaffee died in a flash fire during a test aboard their Apollo I spacecraft at Cape Kennedy, Fla.

Knee's not good. More swollen and sore. Notoriously reliable self-diagnosis says MCL injury. Clinic opens at 10. Ratfarts.

10km on the OC2 with a few efforts thrown in. Gotta keep my training partner on her toes!! Called the first effort, and at the end got a complaint that I sped up - uh, yeah, that's the point!!

Hope the knee turns out not to be serious, LRR.

Sorry about that LRR. Hopefully just a little sprain.

Not long ago I read a bunch about the Apollo fire. Rough. Just rough.

Man some of you did some awesome workouts yesterday. Bcc sitting on his bike for 3+ hours in 32F weather! Awesome.

I was up in the pool early. Drills went crappy, but I suppose they still helped.

Heading out now for a long run. Not sure how far.

Eric--your workout sounds much like what I did yesterday... I finally broke down and got out a Hefty to clean 9yo's room. I filled it with all sorts of bits of trash and broken stuff.

15mile race at 1:00 this afternoon. Weather is looking perfect. 32*, overcast, light winds.

We did that yesterday. Today we get to re-messify.

Well, as LRR's knee takes a dive, mine continues to improve. Right knee has been pain-free for a few days, left knee is aaaaaalmost pain-free. Couple more days ought to do 'er. Might have a race season, after all.

Good luck LRR, healing knee-vibes heading your way at the speed of light.

John - hope it is nothing serious about your knee. "Ice, ice, baby"

20milers #3. all alone but passed quickly. Starting temp at 20F was very comfortable thanks to almost no wind. HR was little higher for the pace, but decided to let my body take over, instead of trying to keep the HR where it should be. Because... it is TAPER TIME!!! Todays' run ended up with almost identical time as the #2 two weeks ago, though it seemed to require a little more effort. I guess my body is ready for a taper. I tried very hard to drink more, but I found out I just couldn't. I burped a lot and it was uncomfortable like I wanted to puke (it kinda reminded me of how I feel during each and eveyr race). Ended up taking only 8oz/hr. Oh well, I just concentrate hydrating well leading up to the race. Wait, it just occurred to me. I probably should have taken more plain water instead of gaterade all the time.

DS and DH headed out to a snowboarding lesson - thier first. DD and I will visit ice scrupture show in a town nearby. Love walking around town with her with a cup of hot cocoa. Priceless.

Healing vibes to your knee, John.

Woke up this morning expecting slick roads and snow. Roads were wet but not frozen so I bundled up and took Bellatrix out. I wasn't the only crazy one out in the misty morning fog. Saw some solo riders and couple of pacelines from the local cycling club, all of us bent on getting our miles in before the winter weather hits and we're stuck on our trainers.

24 miles at a solid Z3 effort. Life is good.

LRR, sorry about the knee. I used to get all kinds of beat up when I was snowboarding all the time. The worst was a separated shoulder which put an end to my aspirations to be a professional volleyball player. Well, that and a lack of talent too.

Me: 4.3mi run on the TM. It's been snowing since I got up this morning and it's only gotten up to 24F so I am thankful for having a TM. I am thinking about going out and doing some shoveling now and then maybe go out for a spin on my x-c skis. I need to refill the bird feeders. I'd also like to get in a good 15-20min of yoga stretching after that. It will all depend on how long the DDs nap, like everything else . TMI?

Stay warm everyone (except for Ella -- you stay cool with your summer weather).

Edited to add: 25min yoga flexibility w/ Rodney Yee.

Wow. What a day. What a long day.

LRR: Am I gonna have to kick your ass to make sure you stay in one piece so that I can have a running buddy? Don't make me come over there.

YoshiGirl: Well done. You're there. Rest up over these few weeks before the big day. Stay strong. Positive thoughts.

Me...

Holy shit.

34 mile RUN. Did Derry x 2. Plus 2 charity miles. Finished in 5:06. Ran with SherpaJohn (from Ultra board), BikerNate, Lee, and another whose name I can't recall (sorry dude). The 5 of us started early, did one loop before the race, then one with the race. It was cool. The race director met us and oh dark thirty, took our names and said he'd put aside our race number, chip, and t-shirt. Very nice guy. He was genuinely into what we were doing and even beside himself that someone would consider doing Derry twice. It's a tough course. Felt damn solid the entire way -- for the most part. I mean, after 25 miles, any hill sucks, and these hills are tough. Slugged through it and felt as if I easily could have done more. Thank God it was over. Hopefully I'll have a more proper race report soon.

Take it to the moon, Tri-stars!
