Mixing it up ... First run since August 3 ... Figure biking season's going to end soon enough, so may as well get started ...

7.2 miles - about 8:30 pace.

Went first 3.6 with marathon training neighbor (about 7:48 pace by his Garmin - so pretty brisk on a rolling route).

Stretched/recovered for a minute - then returned same route while he continued on his long 15 miler. Didn't check pace over return - but definitely slowed down to the 9:00 range - so rounding off the whole run to 8:30s...

Didn't feel too bad - esp. for the first in a month and a half. However, I'm guessing I'll regret it tomorrow AM :)

Did the Wallis Sands Sprint Tri this morning in Rye, NH. A brief race report will follow sometime this week. Spent last night with my parents, now I'm hanging out at Rye Airfield which is a major indoor skateboard park watching both boys have a good time. Looking forward to melting into the sofa later while watching the Pats.

~50 mile ride with Positive Spin for ALS. Ride was supposed to be June 12, but was rescheduled due to some truly crummy, rainy, icky weather. Much nicer weather today, though a bit on the cool side.

Gave my spare tube to a guy on the side of the road. He'd already been seen to by a local cyclist who was headed back to her house to get (in the guy's words), "whatever this thing is called" (said while tweaking the stem valve). Almost rode away without asking if they had a tire lever. They didn't and though the guy said sometimes one's fingers work just fine, I gave them one of my extras. His buddy did have a pump...he also had a saddle bag, but I'm guessing it contained neither spare tubes nor tire levers. Before finally leaving, I did ask if they had a phone. They did.

Pony Express Trail Race this morning. About 15 miles around Rampart Reservoir. Course follows a dirt road for the first mile or so downhill to a singletrack trail going clockwise around the lake. Non-stop turns, up & down, rocks, roots, unstable footing. Got into a solid pace early, ran behind a guy to the first aid station, passed him. I was subsequently passed by 3 people before reaching the dam at around 9 miles. I passed 2 of them back, getting the final one on the road back uphill to the finish. The race went well. I took off a bit over 5 1/2 minutes on my previous best on this course and won my AG handily. The overall winner ran a blistering pace to better the 9 year old course record by 5 minutes. He's running Chicago next month a shooting for an Olympic Trials qualifying time as he missed it by a minute in his last marathon.

Cool/low 40s, warming to upper 50s - Sunny and windy. Pony Express Trail Race. Mostly single track course around Rampart Reservoir featuring non-stop turns, up & down, rocks, roots, unstable footing. Ran well. Took over 5 1/2 minutes off my previous best on this course, 1st AG. Was passed by 3 people, but was able to pass 2 of them back. Garmin measured the course shorter, but I heard it losing the signal several times in the dense woods and the vast number of twists & turns make it difficult to get an accurate reading.

Great racing/riding today!!!

Woke up feeling ready to run but sidelined for 3 hours dealing with (a-hem) tummy issues. Finally got out of the house around 10, which was far too late and it got pretty warm. Did a total of 16 relatively easy miles, but felt kinda drained. Last 2 miles sucked - just kinda tanked. But, still glad to be out there this morning!

Good see hou racing ksurp!

2:10 or so mtb ride - 2 loops of the home course of of which with a friend. Cool to see somebody new at this enjoying and getting better at it. I hit my left pinky toe against something (rock, tree) while trying different approach/line. Painful! It is fat and blue now and I can't walk normally . Not sure if I can do speed work tomorrow before heading to 4-day biz trip to Canada. Boo hooo

NICE DON! Jesh, it amazes me how you race so often but you're still knocking off PR's fairly regularly. Nice.

Thor - Hey man, just do you know 23 miles IS REALLY FRIGGIN LONG, so it's ok if it was hard ;-) (also, are you REALLY recovered from TransRockies? Maybe not?)

Me, 2 hour mtb ride chasing 2 new tri club friends. Wowza I held on for dear life. I held my own, I think, I'm not sure how easy they were taking it on my. Come to find out one qualified for Xterra Nationals this year (M40-44 I cannot image is an easy group) and the other was prepping for a 24hr race in Moab... oh, and he's know as "Crazy Bastard" - oh great....

Big fun, friggin tanked though.
