On March 3, 1875, indoor ice hockey makes its public debut in Montreal, Quebec (history.com)

Wet and windy, if not particularly cold here in Chicagoland. It was 41 when I headed out the door at 4:45 am for my 1 hr easy run. Ended up soaked and miserable enough that I skipped my scheduled strides. Covered 7.6 mi, mostly zone 1. My left calf, which is still sore from a bad cramp while swimming on Friday, seems to be slowly getting better.

Used todays run to break in my new DS Trainers. I can't really feel the lighter weight, but the listed weight is 2 oz less than my normal training shoes.

Have a great week everyone!

Nice run, and way to get out there, miserable or not, Mike!

4-mile run for me this morning. Recovery week, so Kathy and I took the easy course, less hills.

And, that's it for me until Wednesday! What a break - too bad I'm working my butt off this week.

Me - Good run. 5.53 miles in 41 minutes. 1 Mile WU @ 8:29, 3 mile tempo - 6:25, 6:23, 6:10, and 1.5 mile CD 8:50 pace. I am happy with this pace. 6:26 is my goal pace for the triathlon in less than two weeks.

Then to the gym for some chest and abs. it hurts, man I hate going to the gym and lifting but it is a necessary evil.

Trainer ride this morning, with a healthy dose of cussing at the cadence sensor. SOMEONE's gonna get detention over that!

Then a 2.5 mile brick. I ran a FAST pace....down the hill on the way back home. But, it was my first time under 9:00....but just not for a whole mile. lol

Looks like we're all getting busy again this morning! 2700 yards at the pool this morning - swimming with the group that I worked out with last summer - man, this pool is sooo much warmer. Too warm! Felt like I was slogging....

Cold, rainy, and windy. That means the gym is calling.

2.5 on the TM (I was gonna do 3, but my brain rebelled and made me stop), then various weights.

Rest day. And I need it. Funny how when my coach started posting 'em, I griped. But now, I look forward to rest days!

It's a beautiful day, so I will take the kids and dogs for a drag this afternoon. Also need to take son's bike to the shop. It's not shifting properly. It has about 100m on it, so maybe cables are stretching???

Rest day for me too. I'm going to plan out my workouts for the week and clean my house! The weather is nasty today (cold, windy, rainy), but it is supposed to be nice the rest of the week and weekend! Yea! I'm hoping to start my swimming class tomorrow (I'm hoping I can fit it in, but it will be tough).

'nother chilly morning here in New England.

Few shout-outs, then some news... sort of.

TASM: Good news on the prospect of more sane hours. I, for one, have certainly missed you around here and, more importantly, your amazing friendship, but I know you'll be back.

Mike: I'm a bit surprised that you don't feel the different with the DS Trainers. I know the Cumulus, your other shoe, feels pretty light too, because I run in those too and really like them. Do they at least make you feel faster or is it really a non-factor? For me it wasn't so much the lightness as it was the way the cushion was set up and the smaller surface area on the bottom, even if minute.

So... good news. I got an offer on my old house. It's on the low side, but it is also one that I asked for. Some guy was keenly interested but said he wouldn't even make an offer because he thought it would be too low. Me, knowing that if you have a buyer wanting something and a seller equally wanting to sell, I knew that we should at least have a conversation, because we already have the stage set to possibly move forward. So with my prompting, he offered. There are a few hoops I need to jump through, some of which are very high and one of which I can not see but will make an attempt anyway, but if all lands well I might have it sold with a quick closing by end of month. And here's where the triathlon theme comes in. If that happens I will more than likely purchase a set of race wheels for the upcoming season, an aero helmet, and perhaps even a new bike frame (and transfer the components on USS Wisconsin, my current bike) and get a professional fit at a nearby reputible fitting place. Or if the closing is smoother on my wallet than I'm expecting, I might just purchase a new bike out-right. The very best part of this would be that it will all come before the wedding, so that not only can I afford the wedding, but the Ironmate and I can then also have an even better time on our honeymoon not worrying so much about money. Fingers crossed. Because right now it's very, very dicey on the financial front.

Me...

4 mile run early this morning.

Might try for a swim later this evening.

Good luck on the sale. It sounds like it would be a life changer of sorts (cuz a good honeymoon has that effect )

Good luck on the sale Thor. Hope it goes well and you take care of the hoops.

Swim day today after a 7 mile run yesterday. Training partners had some work issues so they did not show up and I did not read e-mail so i was unprepared with a workout. Need to keep a current one in the bag. So I did a 200 warm-up followed by 10 x 100 on 2:15. Hit them all in 2 or a little under which was okay. need to move the interval down now I guess. Then a 200 cool down. Signed up for Mooseman International this morningso i had beeter start building distance.

I did notice that a 'tighter' fit to the DS Trainer as opposed to my Cumulus. The back and mid parts of the shoe really fit like a glove. I've read that in this version of the DS they expanded the toe box, and I could definitely see it causing problems if earlier versions were tighter around the toes. There was a bit more spring in my step, but I always feel that with new shoes, so who knows. The other thing is that I've never been particularly peculiar about my shoes, so maybe I'm just not noticing the difference.

I read somewhere that each ounce you shave off is worth 1 sec per mile. The Cumulus is 11.5 oz, the DS trainer weighs in at 9.6 oz. So, theoretically, these shoes are worth 52 sec over the course of the marathon. If that's the case, then it will be $100 well spent because 2:50 is really pushing the edge of my current fitness.

I do feel a bit silly though, because I've always made fun of the guys I ran with who seemed to have a new pair of shoes every week. This is the first time since HS track that I've had two active pairs of running shoes.

Good luck with the house. Its a tough market out there, so I hope you can get rid of it at a reasonable price.
