On this day in 1999 former professional wrestler Jesse "The Body" Ventura was sworn in as governor of Minnesota.

It was "officially" 4F when the M-Dawg and I lit out for 5 easy miles this morning. Picked up Iron Boy about a mile and half out and got the next 1.75 with him. Miles go so much quicker with company! A nice sunrise was just beginning as we returned home.

"Congratulations, you have a sense of humor. Of course, MINE have to be in the car ......
Driving home the rest of the way.

May get something easy in at home to work out the car kinks.

10k kayak concentrating on technique - long powerful strokes with good leg drive and rotation. And trying to keep the paddle close to the boat the whole way through the stroke - that bit was hard!

'nother day in the deep freeze here in New England, with warmer days ahead.

Boy'rd: Bannon is right about the knees. Although you may be able to get by riding in shorts in colder climates, be careful, especially if you insert hard sessions such as hill repeats or big gear work. You have a much greater chance of wrecking your knees. Knees are a curious thing because unlike many other injuries, they often do not give warning.

TASM: Welcome back!!!

MoonBoy: Awesome job in the pool, man. That makes me VERY happy to hear and gives me motivation to insert more and more drills into my own swimming. Between you and der Kaiser, I'm starting to look forward to the pool.

Me...

5.5 mile run early this frigid morning. Left my house a few minutes early and put in two miles and a few easy and very short repeats on a slight hill before seeing his head and the M-dawg appear from the darkness of a distant park. Exchanged "hey, dog!" greetings and, seemingly a minute later, slapped gloved hands for a good Friday. He's right. Time flies when you're running with company. Then headed home.

40 lap swim. Inserted two tempos of 8 and 9 laps where I averaged 55 secs per lap. Then did a kicking drill, my first ever! and boy did I feel it in the legs, but happily, I moved forward -- albeit very, very slowly. Chick in the lane next to me was in a category all by herself. She seemed to pull her way through the water. Wished she stayed longer so that I could learn a thing or two just from watching her.

Bust 'em out if you got 'em, Tri-knockers!

Well, while Ironboy and LRR were running in all the clothes they own, Muffin Queen and I ran in shorts despite the 4 degree morning. Oh yea, we were inside. MQ has an ENTIRE gym in her basement. It was great. Yakked the whole time while I got my easy 3 in. Tomorrow we are off for 9 miles. Yahoo!

Fishbowl for me this morning. And the weird guy was back. The way he looked at me totally gave me the creeps so I left.

I usually run from the gym, but not today. I just wanted to get away from there. So I drove home and ran my neighborhood route. It was so cold that my braids froze! 4.48m, 38:59, 8:42pace.

I did report the guy to the gym. Deck changing is a no-go. Not sure what they can do about it, since the guy isn't a member.

Question to you folks: Do you get this much in an hour or do you swim longer than my Masters group meets? I have yet to go much beyond 2100m before we get kicked out of the pool. I need to drag myself up to the lake at least a couple times a month to get in some longer swim sessions before April.

Be careful or she will be posting messages on her board about the weirdo that kept looking at her.

I got a nice run in last night. First time doing intervals in a while. I did them following the Daniels plan from my new book (or as closely as I could set it up and still be able to count my total mileage with my Garmin) I think my recoveries were a bit too short. My I pace should have been 3:36 for 800m and by my calculations, I think I was pretty close. I'll have to play around with this.

.75 mi w/u @ 9:48

.5 mi @ 7:04,
.25mi @ est 9:36 pace

.5 mi @ 7:21
.25mi @ est 9:36 pace

.5 mi @ 7:05
.25mi @ est 9:36 pace

.5 mi @ 7:11
.25mi @ est 9:36 pace

.75mi c/d @ est 9:36 pace

Got a nice swim in this morning. Not that much distance, but 1700m in an hour is pretty good considering I've only made it to the pool about once a week since Thanksgiving.

The temp here is right at 20' again. Great morning for a run. Put in 3.78 miles in 31:33. 1.5 mile run ended up in 9:03 or 6:02 m/m. I am very excited about that. I didn't lose quite as much as I thought, I still have a long way to go.

My goal now is to improve that by 10%, down to 8:08 or a 5:25 mile.

Love to hear from Thor and LRR's training buddies.

I rode my bike to work today and my face nearly froze off. I was way underdressed and actually thanked god for the big hill into town which warmed me up a little bit.

Leaving work soon for a short lifting routine + 30 minutes on the stationary bike. Then, 3.5 mile ride home - a little warmer, thankfully!

My company is being bought, and tonight we all have to go to our future employers' Kick off meeting - an hour of business meeting, an hour of cocktail reception, and an hour or two of dinner. Can't say I'm looking forward to it, but at least I still have my job with the new company so I shouldn't complain.

That particular type of swim takes me about between 44-46 minutes from the time I first hit the water. If I want to get done a little earlier, I'll cut the rest periods down to 10 seconds, however that makes the intervals slower by about 2-3 seconds. If I am serious about working on speed, I'll add 10 seconds per rest interval, so I can really push them, which will speed up the intervals by 3-6 seconds.

Huh??? What's he doing there (on a regular basis) if he's not a member?? How does that work?

Muffin Queen - Welcome!!! We've heard soooo much about you!

Xflbk - Great swim, you might just inspire me to step it up a notch.

Me - Not today, though. Giving the knees yet another day off. Starting to worry about my leg muscles, but not much I can do about it. Got to do what the knees say they want.
