On this day in 1971 Charles Manson and three female followers were convicted in Los Angeles of murder and conspiracy in the 1969 slayings of seven people, including actress Sharon Tate.

During the course of my 10m run this morning, the temperature dropped from 12F to 10F leaving me with a Gatorade slushy. Picked up Iron Boy at about 1.5 and ran with him until 7 or so - those were quick miles. We twice ran into a bud on the same loop in the other direction and we were greeted by a moonlit owl up in the State Forest!!

Latest report from The Diesel: "Fractures of elbow and arm. The other fragment they saw was a left over from my tennis days. All will heal on its own. No surgery required. That's the good news. It will still take 5-6 weeks to heal. But if I am painfree I may be able to run in 3." Ouch.

When I get to the bottom
That Manson story is quite bizarre.

LRR, how did Ironboy's shoulder seem to you?

Me, up early and on the trainer. 10 x 1:00 low RPM strength work, then a few minutes of steady riding. I put in the Duke's Island in the Sky as a tribute to those of you who are frozen in place this week. I did a few lunges and squats while walking the dog.

Short run tonight, nothing special.

Pool. 3*160m (all crawl YAY). 480m

160m is the most I've done as crawl only, and I did it three times today (90 sec rests). Was only there 15 mins cos of work, but a good confidence boost. Progress is happening. Back to the drills for the mon/tues/weds sessions next week and then do sets of 200m next friday

LRR-I'm always amazed and how far and fast you run...daily! Wish I had a group to go with in the morning. I'm a little intimidated by the dark.

Easy 2000yd swim in 33:32. Went slow enough to keep up the 3 stroke breathing through most of the laps and tried to keep as close to perfect form for me as possible. Succeeded for the most part on both accounts. By the 2nd half, I was going back to 2 stroke every 4th lap or so just to get my wind back. May run this afternoon, may not.

Great workouts to all!!

Didn't look like it bothered him running. Conversation was the usual:

Thor: Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
LRR: Yah (pant pant pant)
Thor: Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
LRR: Yah (pant pant pant)
(repeat)

Think it hurts more when he reaches overhead - as in swimming. He was headed for the pool - I'm sure we'll get a report.

Whoa. How's the car look, mon?

I love the Pinewood Derby! Here's our 2007 report. This year, I'm building a car, painted as a satellite truck, with a wireless video camera on it - Cub Cam! I'll hook the receiver to a projector and show live video as it goes down the track. (I hope - seems to work OK in my basement.) Can't wait!!!

Yah well... Neighborhood ski day tomorrow. We charter a big bus, load it with coffee, juice, muffins, and families from our neighborhood; drive up to Bretton Woods and spend the day on the slopes; book out the big room at Fabyan's Station across the street for an early dinner; pile back onto the bus with the kids in the back watching video while the parents drink beer and pass around snacks for the ride home.

Bus roles at 6AM which rules out a Saturday morning run and the apres ski activities make a long run on Sunday morning an iffy proposition so... Had to go a little longer today.

I'm learning to dress for the cold. Gotta remember I might not need as many shirts as the temp numbers imply. But, that hat....always will remember that hat.

Beautiful cold morning run as the sun came up. Kids at bus stops were looking at me funny. he he he he.

3.67 (love the new gadget!!) miles today..... only weather item to contend with was the cold. Relatively no wind, NO rain/mist/puddles, even no mud due to the particular route I took. No cars to wait for (musta hit the intersections just right), and all the annoying neighborhood dogs were inside so I didn't have to hear their barking. The dogs that were out in their yards gave a friendly bark or two as if to say, "hey... what're you doing out so early.....oh, running," then they went back to whatever it was they were doing before they noticed me. Nice puppies.

Much activity this morning. All good.

x: Impressive swimming, dude. Keep up the GREAT work, even if it was on the easy side.

LRR: blah, blah, blah... blah. blah. Blah-blah. I get it.

der Kaiser: Upper arm is getting better but still hurts when I twist it in strange ways, such as lifting up from the side or, hey, swim motion.

Creapy Encounter II: I joined a new-to-me gym back in December for my swim training. I've been now going 3 times per week since and am rather enjoying it, although I know when my workload for Ironman training picks up, scheduling will be much more difficult. But in the meantime, I like it. Over that time I've notice this one guy in the locker room. He seems to know everybody. For those of you who know me or this gym, no, his name is not Roger. Roger is a good guy. He knows everybody. The guy I'm talking about is older with a big round belly blocking view of the ground, his knees, and perhaps a few other things. So I see him in the shower from time to time. He seems to spend more time just sitting under the water than most. Much more than most. While he does this, he looks out around to all the other people also showering, and talks to them. But he also stares way too long in a very creapy way. So this morning, he was creaping me out something feirce as he checked me up and down and up and down and all around and up and down and all around again. So I decided to look at him, as if to make eye contact. Maybe that would show him that he's making me feel, well, rather naked. When I look in his eyes, he doesn't even see me, because he's laser vision is pinpoint on my peepee. Creapy. Seems to have a lot of friends, too. And I know I'll see him again, or maybe I should say 'I know he'll see me again.'

Me...

8 (?) mile run early this morning babbling away to LRR while listening to an owl making noises at the early morning Fox Moon. Okay, so maybe it wasn't a Fox moon, but it sounds right. Was cool to hear LRR talk about his pinewood derby mobile. Followed by...

25 lap swim. Right armed pulled through maybe 4 of those. Left arm and kicking drills interspersed. Or maybe the other way around. Arm coming along. Will probably be mid to late next week before it's healed enough to go harder.

Howl at the Fox Moon, Tri-Owls!

LRR--thanks for the update.

xflbk--thank you for making me feel like the total slug that I am...

Thor--that's too weird.

Fishbowl for me. WU drills, 6x100, 4x50, CD. 1600 total. I still suck at swimming.

Then for my run. Friggin' COLD out there this morning. But, I overdressed... Decent run. Garmin is giving me screwy numbers. 3.79m, 31:38, 8:21pace. Ain't no way I was holding an 8:21pace. 8:40-8:45 yah. But that wasn't a 8:21!
