I blew a 400 on my spirometer. When I get to 350 I get to spend a week in the hospital. I'm so looking forward to it.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh............

Do you have to do that every night?
Or, just when you start feeling less than great?

I checked it yesterday after my swim. I was about 375. I started high dose prednisone after the swim session and took my rescue inhaler a bunch of times. Today I blew a 400, so I'm getting better.

I'll be fine in a day or 2.

550 is normal for me. 400 is about 150ml LOW. 350 is my cutoff to call the doc and head to the ER.

The spirometer is a tool that measures how much air I can blow out. The more out, the more in.

Imagine what it would be if you weren't in such good shape.

Not working out due to lack of oxygen is "extenuating" that's for sure.

Has he mentioned that he swims with an inhaler stuffed up the sleeve of his wet-suit? And then pulls it out, takes a few puffs and swims some more.

Sheldon, I looked back at my reading from last March 25th. I was 405.
And I was happy to see 405.
Now, a year later with the pneumonia gone, the sinuses healed and my little bronchioles open, I blew a 650. It's true. I'm full of hot air.

Hey Sheldon, I hope you get better quickly. How long have you been asthmatic? I also have asthma, developed it in my early 20's, but it doesn't bother me anymore to the extent that it used to, rarely now actually and usually controllable right away. Never been to the hospital for that oxygen mask and never had to take liquid prednisone, like my son. Thank God. Just Flovent and of course, Ventolin.

Question: What is a "normal" reading for the spirometer?

Prednisone can be problematic if taken longterm. But if you can't breathe, it can be a freakin' lifesaver.

I wear a sleeveless wetsuit, but took that tidbit from one of Sheldon's posts to learn to stick an inhaler down my under my wetsuit and down my sport bra for open water swims. It's definitely a help. Inhaler seems to forever taste salty though.

Fell better Sheldon!

I have like 4 of those from my various hospital stays. Sherry always tells you to go to the dr.

If you want I can call you after my run later and blow in the thing and we can compare.

Be careful w/your stomach. I took a 6 pack of prednisone once. And spent a week's "vacation" in the hospital..."

I'm much better today. I blew a 450 this AM so I'm going int he right direction.

One or 2 more rest days and I'll be fine.

Monica, I'm almost positive it was the dust and dirt from working in the yard that caused all this. Next time I wear a mask all day for sure.
