Ailarie - I love your thread titles!

Sorta fun: The kids are at their Dad's this weekend so I have a quiet weekend in front of me. My BIG PLANS are to do a lot of deep cleaning in the hosue (it will feel fun when I'm all done and sitting in a tidy organized clean space), spend some quality time at the gym, do some fun cooking and I think I'll even go to church before Warm Yoga tomorrow. I hadn't been to my church in years - but very very sadly was attending a couple weeks ago due to the unexpected death of a family friend. It's the UU Church, I like it because I feel like anyone can go and believe whatever they want to whether Christian, Jewish or atheist, the common denominator is that everyone believes in their fellow man. At least, that's my take on it.

Fun Fun: I also bought myself a mix n match 6 pack of New Glarus beer while I was in Sconnie: My selections were: Spotted Cow (of course), Cabin Fever Honey Bock, Snowshoe Red Ale, Stone Soup, Coffee Stout and Fat Squirrel.

OK, I'm off to the gym to earn the beer or two that I'm going to drink tonight! woo!

I hope everyone has a super fab day!

Not sure if I should post this in the fun thread or the fitness thread, but my activity today will be participating in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in the city right next to where I live. The community chorus that I'm in is walking the parade and singing, handing out candy and postcards with info on our spring concert. 1 mile parade route, 1 mile return back to where I'll be parked. I wish it were warmer but at least it dried out.

Goon, what is UU church? I can't think.

I don't know if this counts as fun exactly, but I'll be glazing and firing the last 5 mugs for the Fool's run. I guess it's fun because I'm almost done with the project.

For the overall male/female winners (that's the jester hat from the logo):

and for the rest of the finishers (smaller jester hats all around)

and the bottoms are stamped so when you're drinking this is legible

yes, I know the Ls are backwards. Couldn't find any L stamps* so had to improvise.

*I used old fashioned press type. You know, the kind where each individual letter is a stamp? What newspapers used to use?

Very COOL! That's fun. It definitely belongs in the fun thread. Enjoy yourself.

BigG: I'm like you. I don't especially enjoy cleaning but I love the fruits of my labors. Have fun on your weekend off! ps. you need something chocolaty in your plan or else all weekend long you will feel as though you've forgotten something vital.

Katholeenie: Good Work! very neat!

as for me: I'm leaving again tomorrow for 3 days so i'm cleaning and laundering and making sure DS#1 and 2 have food in the cupboards.

BigG, I believe that everyone needs to feel connected to something bigger, whether it's their community or an omnipotent God. I'm glad to hear that you're planning to go and I hope you find comfort and healing there.

Awesome mugs, Kath! And I think the backwards "L" go with the "Fool's Run" theme! Definitely an awesome finisher's prize!

Winter, I neglected to congratulate you on the promotion, so CONGRATULATIONS! You earned it, you deserve it, and you're going to be awesome at it!

Have fun at the parade, Bard, and enjoy the walk!

It's a beautiful day here, but I have to head to the coffee shop to do work. I'm under a very tight deadline, and I have to push through. I'm pretty sure I'm reaching my stress limit, though. Hopefully I can get everything done before I go over the edge. My trip to Montreal cannot have come at a better time. I need the time away.

On a really gross note, my cat had diarrhea my my entryway floor this morning and it's all over the fur on his backside. He won't let me anywhere near him to clean it off, so I'm just praying he stays off the furniture until he takes care of himself. Yuk!

Happy weekend, folks!

Annual meeting of the International Studies Association. It's one of the biggest conferences for people who study what I do. They try to pick places where people would actually like to visit, which sometimes has the unfortunate side-effect of no on attending panels because they're sight-seeing. A couple of years ago, they held the conference in Hawaii; there was very sparse attendance at panels. I went last year in New Orleans which started the day after Mardi Gras.

Hi all - not fun is sticker shock: 40 cents difference per gallon in between gasoline fill-ups. I'm now making more of a conscious effort to ease off the pedal (which means getting up earlier in the morning), combine trips, and walk/bike/take alternative means of transit when I can.

Not fun is also getting a glance of the NHK broadcast on the cable TV this morning (they're allowing it for free in certain markets and online as well.) I can't vouch for normal newscasts, but these reporters looked absolutely shell-shocked and weary (which is more than understandable.)

As they were going down the what looked to be a casualty list of their prefectures (I guess that would be the equivalent of states and provinces) it just made me appreciate the raw power of mother nature even more, especially when added to the local coverage. Amazing to me how something generated thousands of miles would have the power to this (this is of the Santa Cruz harbor, which is just to the south of the Bay Area proper)

The footage I've seen about the Tsunami has been shocking. My heart goes out to all the people and families that have suffered losses.

Ok so I was filling out an Online dating questionnaire just now. I was by no means certain that I wanted to take that step but the last question made my mind up. The question was: What are the 3 things you are most grateful for? So I answered. 1- My children; 2- My ability to figure things out either logically, emotionally or strategically; 3 - Not needing a man in my life. So I broke the link and came here to tell you all about how I almost joined an online dating site. Phew! That was close.

Don't misread me. I think those sites are super. I have a couple of friends and acquaintances who have found good people to spend their time with. I'm not knocking them. I just don't think I'm ready to put myself out there in that way.

Well crap, I had planned to go to church but didn't get up in time. I didn't think I'd need to set an alarm since I normally get up unreasonably early on weekends but didn't take into account the DST change. Even the dog is thrown off, he didn't get up until 20 minutes after I did and came into the kitchen all smush faced with a WTF look on his face.

((((Missy)))) I hope you hear good news soon.

Girl Scouts were at church last night selling GS cookies, so I bought two boxes of Tagalongs. I ate one on the way home. Oops.

My painting guy came today to do some prep work and we had to figure out how to paint some arches leading from the living room into the kitchen so I called over my neighbor for an opinion. Rather than limit her opinion to the arches, she proceeded to tell me what a bad idea it is to do what I'm doing. I kept saying, "I understand what you're saying and I don't care," but she kept trying to convince me to do something different. After a year of agonizing about this, I made my decision and I'm sticking with it. She's been giving a different opinion all throughout the year. If I hate it, I'll deal with it, but for Pete's sake, just answer the narrow question I asked! Usually I'm ok living on my own, but it is situations like this when I wish I had a significant other who I could consult.

I'd like to point out that the significant other could have a differing opinion that you don't like, just like your neighbor. Significant others that are intimate enough with you to live with you in your house often don't limit their answers to narrow questions asked either. Just sayin'.

SPEAKING of significant others, or in this case - insignificant. While picking up the kids today ExH made the comment that if DS lived with him, he'd be going to school every day. Yes, clearly ExH is the better parent here having done about .0785% of the parenting in our children's lives. pfffffft. I woulda liked to kick him right in the mangoes. Jerk.

I wish I woulda have taken a picture of Pico this a.m. - it was pretty funny.
