10° cooler sounds Wonderful to me, Pink.

Yesterday's 2+ miles went well and I did not get struck by lightening which is always a plus.

I'm doing core work regularly again and that seems to help my running which also is always a plus.

Temps are moderating here as well, but the humidity is indicative of the adequate rain we've been getting.

That's a plus to me too.

I hope MrsG feels better soon. I would kill for 10° cooler, but I won't see that till November (and hopefully when I get to TCM).

I'm glad we possess "Collective Knowledge" because individually I possess little of it!

This morning would have normally been MLR Tempo day. But I think I overdid the Tempo run last Wednesday by doing 5 continuous, fairly hard Tempo miles. My left leg has not been all that happy with me since. So today, the goals were to (1) get in the miles and (2) run a few faster miles if things felt okay.

5 miles easy as a warm up, feeling okay, so I decided to do a 1 mile ON, 1 mile OFF run, where I would run the ON miles harder but not too hard. The ON miles came in at:

8:28
8:08
8:03
8:05

These paces turned out to be "Tinman Tempo" paces - a sort of slower Tempo run than most plans prescribe (i.e. between 10K and HMP). These felt good. I'm going to do more of these in addition to the more normal 10K Tempos.

12.25 miles altogether at 9:14 pace.

Bill, "faster miles" is not what I expected to see after "left leg has not been all that happy". But you seem to stay off the DL pretty well, so... may your good fortune continue.

I agree about the collective wisdom. At some point, I'll go back and peruse every post you guys have made about PF. Labduck has like 2 years' worth. My heel hurts this morning. Good thing it's a rest day. By the way, guess I got that confirmation that I'm a freak because nobody knew what I was talking about in my post last night. Okay, I'll go be quiet now.

Opie, you're not a freak. I just went back and read your post (guess I skimmed too quickly last night), and I kind of get what you mean about the bicycle wheels. I mean, downhills have never been easeful feeling for me, so I can only imagine what that feels like, but I definitely get your analogy. Certainly makes sense on the squeaky-wheel thing, though. Good for you!

No running for me today, since my foot is feeling strange. Ankle is hurting up into the calf, which is quite tight, so I'm thinking it's some burgeoning achilles issue. Been taking some Advil to head off the ensuing inflammation, and will ride the stationary bike instead. I think something happened when I walked all day shopping on Monday (my complete rest day), because the hamstring on that same leg was achy that evening. Just as well, since I had decreed this to be a cutback week anyhow. Hopefully with some self-massage and staying off of it, all parts should be fine by the weekend.

7.1 miles with 1x2000m @ 10:47 (wood chip surface) and 8x400m @ 1:55 (track), all with 200m jog/walk recoveries. It felt doable.

Gobi, seems like Mrs. G has been under the weather for some time now. Getting concerned... GL on the TT tonight (probably already did it though...)

Yay for Pickles coming home! We knew she would. Eventually. Enjoy the mat, I think you'll find it makes a big difference.

Opie, I just figured, "Yep, freaky dude" and kept on going. But yes I do know what you mean.

Sounds like a few of us are feeling dinged around the edges from mileage buildups... take care of those twinges so they don't get a life of their own!

Dove, I find I'm always catching up and missing a lot. Mariposai and I decided awhile ago that we read and comment on what we can, but as long as we're running and checking in, that's gotta be ok. Life has seemed really busy for a lot of us this year...

{{Starr's sister}} Nice to see you pop in here, lady. Hope your sis enjoys your visit and she's comfortable... tough time, for sure. Nice job at the fair!

We had a torrential downpour last night. We need the rain, but a nice steady day or two of it would be nice. We seem to get nothing for days on end, then a deluge that sends most of my driveway fines down into the ditches and culverts. *sigh* The garden looks totally beat to crap, too. Oh well... the yard got a good soaking. Hope the fires did, too. Temp this morning was 48° and we may barely see above 60° today. Seems incredible that we broke a high temperature record (91°) just last Sunday... what, three days ago? Overcast, cool and misty drizzle today.

I've got 8 miles of hilly trails on the schedule today. I might just do them after work so once I'm all wet and muddy, I can just go home.

Rode the bike to nowhere for 45 minutes this afternoon. If it weren't for the uncomfortable seat, I would've died of boredom. Take those small blessings as they come, folks.

Opie, you're not freaky, you're just practicing for life in the PNW. Btw, the Orenco area is nice. Technically, it's in Hillsboro, but we don't consider it to be. It has a good high school too (Liberty HS), with a very nice track. I've actually jumped the fence there to run on it. And I could meet you at the Cornelius Pass Roadhouse for a beer...

I think for the first time I'm experiencing something akin to taper madness. After cancelling yesterday's run, and taking today off as a scheduled rest day, I am pretty sure I have lost all my fitness and won't be able to run farther than a half a mile. I feel like an out of shape slug. And everything seems jagged...

My hips are still very sore so I did a spin class this morning with DH instead of running. This is getting old. PT tomorrow morning -- I want to have a big discussion with him about what I should expect realistically. I have a triple whammy of arthritis, hip bursitis, and very tight IT bands. I just wish this would resolve already. I should wear a label saying "impatient" on my forehead, right?

I have some good news to share, way OT though. The mortgage rates have dipped so low that I made inquiries about refinancing. I didn't expect to be approved as it would all be based on one income, but I did get approved so the closing will be next week and my mortgage rate will drop 2%! Plus I was able to knock 5 years off the life of the mortgage, so that's a good thing. I'm really pleased about it, and pretty surprised too. I'm very thrifty and we don't have any other debt so I'm sure that was the reason why I got approved. I only have an occasional splurge on running shoes or apparel. Although someday I'd like to get a decent sized TV; maybe next year if we get back enough in taxes.

My mom is here staying with us for a couple of days and we're all going to see a Garrison Keillor performance tonight at a local college's outdoor theater. Please cross fingers that the rain holds off till we're back home afterwards. I'm really looking forward to this and it should be a lot of fun!

Enjoy your day everyone,

I like your plan, Labduck. You've jumped your share of fences! I said earlier it was a rest day but I forgot I needed to switch today and tomorrow because of my massage tomorrow, so I get to lift and bike after work.

tomwhite, I'm writing a prescription to take you off nachos. You know what those are, right? Yes, I'm a doctor (J.D. which doesn't stand for jerk doctor, contrary to public opinion).

eta-SS, hope the new shoes solve that!

Starr, my thoughts are with you and your sister. I can see you're keeping busy with things, incl some running (yay for tomwhite's good advice!). Soothing vibes coming your way.

Heme, tough times at the workplace. I hope your co-workers know there are better times ahead.

evanf, I bought the Cumulus 12s yesterday. Tried the new Landreths, but my regular size is too small and they didn't have the next up. I think they messed with a good thing. The heel design is just kooky. And that off-centre Nimbus lace-up just seemed daft. I tried them on the TM just to make sure. Seem just fine.

Metatarsalgia flareup late last week. I think I have it under control. As I haven't upped my mileage nor been doing anything out of the ordinary speed-wise, I'm blaming being cheap, trying to stretch out the life of Mizunos (which is about a month as is) at the relay, then pounding fairly technical trails for longer than was prudent.

Count me among the happy renters. I used to own. I like the freedom of being debt-free and, on a moment's notice, itinerant.

Thanks for the good thoughts and (((())))'s on the work situation. SS, you would think there would be better times, but we seem to go thru these like clockwork, every year or so. It wouldn't be so hard on everyone if management was more considerate and communicative. Some groups are blessed with good people managers, but there are some complete dicks as well. And the dicks always seem to keep their jobs somehow and even get promotions. Lost a running friend today to the cutbacks.

So is that what that is?? I get that irrational fear virtually every time I don't run for more than two days or so.
