8.04 miles on the treadmill this morning in 1:12:00.

Now I'm off to shovel out and try to make it in to the office. There are 10 inches on the ground, and it's coming down at 1-3 inches/hour. I canceled my early morning patients to allow myself a good 1.5 hours to get in. Stocking my car with blankets, food, hand and foot warmers and heavy boots.

Wish me luck!

Good thing you closed the office Robin!! You don't need to endanger yourself and your patients probably wouldn't have showed up anyway. Take a nap.

Only 39 degrees here but no snow, rain, or tornados. 10.3 moh at 7:33 avg pace. 2 X 3 mile intervals imbedded with 1 mile recovery between. Goal pace 6:50. Actual 6:51 and 7:06 by feel only. Over dressed for this one and therefore cold and sweaty at the finish.

I got up to the sound of rain this morning and so my two friends did not show up. Headed out and did 10.6 miles in about 1hr 20 all pretty chilled out. Just finished a session on the spin bike.

The office has been busy today so lots to do if I am to escape at 1700 to grab a swim before my circuits class.

Gobi - I was wearing the Garmin to record my times. But I didn't want to run to the pressure of the watch. The course was hilly so I could fudge a few seconds if I wanted.

Tom - I read yesterday that almost every state has under some snow cover.

Running in winterland is fabulous! We got around a foot of snow around here. The snow is a dry snow, one of those that just sends off a fan of snow around your foot every time you land on them. The inner child in me was just giggling as I ran today. This 3.25 miles turn out to be a harder run (not pace wise, but efford wise) than the 5.5 interval miles I ran last night (with the 5.5 slow miles I ran in the morning yesterday that makes for a nice 11 MLR for my wings). The speed workout looked like this:

1 mile slow

chilly here, but no snow... err, as usual.

2mi walk this morning. 10min stretching. no more training, just mental now. planning 4 hours of standing in line this afternoon to see mr. president speak, hopefully to clear up some of the mental crap floating around in my grey matter.

ryan hall has a nice quote on that nissan facebook page... hope i can live up to it:

‎"The big lesson that I learned is that once I am on the starting line nothing in the past matters. Not my crazy travel, my lack of sleep, my headache, past frustrations, stress or anything else. There is only the road ahead and we all never know what that may hold, which is why on the starting line of the race is one of the moments in life I feel most alive."

so I hear there was a lot of snow last night. . . . sounds nice. . . we just had a bit of rain which means it actually warmed up here a little. We should be in the low 50's most of the week. downright balmy!

Will run after work tonight. I think I'll go up to the track and just run around in circles.

thinking of Ben today and hoping there are more steps in his progress.

thinking of the victims and families in Tucson today also.

also thinking of Johnny today, so I am going to give him a call.

oh, and since I'm such a thinker today, what do you all think of this? . . . I called my massage guy yesterday to set up some sessions for deep tissue work. I did that regularly last year while training for Newport and I think it made a huge difference, so was going to set up about once a month sessions. I get a call back that he's had to change the way he practices and is no longer taking female clients. gosh, wouldn't females comprise about 80% of your practice? I'm at a loss as to why he would restrict his massage practice so drastically...any theories?

Only the obvious one, in that there was a complaint filed. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Not sure what this day is going to bring me today. I've already changed out of my unused outdoor running clothes once, though I'm debating putting them back on... or maybe I'll put on shorts and short sleeves and go spin my wheels on the treadmill a bit... with a foot of new snow on the ground, I'm finding my tendency for inertia is taking hold... hmmm, so in the meantime I'm having an apple and a cup of tea. Will keep everyone posted.

Tam. Theory? Someone may have made an accusation of impropriety against him either correctly or incorrectly. Sad either way. I had a calf muscle problem that cleared up with a few sessions. Hope you find a replacement.

Still snowing here too, not much additional accumulation.

That's a shame, Tammy. No other theory. Say hi to John for me.

I don't know if the Hood to Coast movie showed here last night. Seeing it would make me want to be invited on a team!

that was my first thought also - something inappropriate, which I really find hard to believe knowing him. I also thought "jealous girlfriend?" . . . but is massage therapy is your career and you are going to date a MT, then you better learn to deal with it. another theory is he just doesn't want to work on 44 yr old legs anymore. . .

I wish that h2c movie was showing down here. We are too small of a market I guess, so I will have to wait til it airs on tv, like I did with Spirit of the Marathon.

Tammy, my first thought about your MT was he probably denied the inappropriate advances of one of his female clients, and then the jilted woman complained to the State about him making inappropriate overtures. Our State laws have evolved to the point where any time a woman makes any statement against a man for physical or sexual impropriety, effectively the man is considered guilty until proved innocent. The law is designed to protect women from abusive relationships, which is a good thing, but the definition of "relationship" has become so broad that it impacts almost any non-random male/female interaction. The complaint is probably tied up in the Oregon Board of Massage Therapists, and while it is your MT is probably not allowed to see female clients.

It's funny that most Hood to Coasters I know could care less about the movie. I know what I saw of the previews looked interesting to me. And of course, I wonder if there are any glimpses of me in it! I do remember seeing the cameras the year they filmed (2008?).

Lab, that's a theory I can see. He's very good looking and I can see someone making an advance on him and just knowing him, his level of professionalism and respect he shows, I can see him rejecting an advance like that from a client. I think that's the most likely possibility.

eta: Lab, I have a science related question. DS is participating in the local district science fair and his experiment is using different stain removers on a variety of different stains to see what is most effective at which types of stains. In addition to some brands you can buy in the stores, I suggested he make a homemade stain remover to see how they compare to the store bought ones. What would be a combination of normal household products one would have around that could be mixed to act as an effective stain remover? any suggestions?

Tammy, the best red wine stain remover I know is a 50/50 mix of USP hydrogen peroxide and liquid dish soap. It only stays potent for a few days, but it does a terrific job.

4.2 miles in my YakTraks this afternoon after a morning of shoveling cross-training with the kiddo and Mr. CNYrunner. 16" here and stopped snowing in earnest a few hours ago. Hang in there irunmike. I'll probably run to the Smith indoor track (3 miles away) and do some tempo miles indoors and run home for tomorrow's adventure. The YakTrak run was fun actually and while windy out there, it wasn't as bitter cold as I thought it might be. All good and today's run helped loosen up the ole legs after last night's hill repeats.

I heard lots of squeals of joy and giggles as I ran through the neighborhood streets---kids playing their hearts out, or sledding, or making snow angels. My niece (3) and nephew (5) who live in the Boston area asked their mom if they could sleep in their snowsuits last night. She said yes to that, but no to boots in bed. That kind of joy is hard to beat. We always get snow, it's January and New England after all, but it's been awhile since we've had good snow-fort making, sledding, play till you drop snow. Of course us adults have stooped shoulders and strained backs from shoveling and the driving is dangerous, but I am trying to listen to the laughter as much as I can.
