On Monday, we had an ice storm. I walked out on my wooden back porch, happily noted no ice, and so headed off to work. And promptly fell down my 5 concrete steps. Ugh. The bruise on my behind measures 8 inches across.

Because of the fall and tending to the injuries, I didn't get online for the Covered Bridges Half Marathon registration until 10:23 AM. Registration opened at 9 AM. It was already fully subscribed.

On Thursday, the snowstorm snarled everybody's commutes such that it took me 2.5 hours to get home. My son's daycare teacher had to take him home with her (she lives right across the street from me). It was a heroic act of kindness for her to help him and carry him through the 10 inches of snow from the subway station when mommy couldn't reach him.

And now today, we are getting hit with another Nor'easter. I had registered for 2 races...and both of them have been cancelled due to the weather. One of them is aptly titled the "Winter Challenge", but even this group of diehards realized the dangers of pushing it too hard in this weather. So, now I am drowning my sorrows in hot chockky.

Soooo...winter has not officially begun yet, but I'm still feeling like it's kicking me in the ass...

Oh. man! Been there, done that, and I still remember it as one of the more painful injuries of my life. What's more, I had to drive 3 hours home from where I was, and I did it the whole way scrunched up sideways on one cheek because it hurt too much to sit directly on it.

I hope the rest of winter treats you better. Nice to see you posting again, BTW.

During our run today, Paul and I were talking about the weather for you runners north and then east or west of us. We did get the nasty ice storm, but this week will be beautiful, sunny and in the 40's and 50's. I don't know how you do it.

I'm going to have to mow my yard this week. It's getting a little scraggly. Sorry

I too am having a hard time getting into the winter thing. For us, the worst is yet to come! It's going to be a cold week this week (lows down to -30 tomorrow and Wed), and I'm finding myself very glad it's a recovery week! TM and XT at the gym... here I come!

(but I agree with Tim... Boston needs to get all this crap out of the way before 4/21!!)

Okay, I'm liking the idea of getting all the weather bugs out of the system before April 21. I'm working on a training program that incorporates more treadmill running, because so many roads are clearly impassable right now. *sigh*

the feeder road on Commonwealth is quite runnable, as they plow it and there aren't alot of cars - we ran it Saturday and checked it out today after fighting the ice on Beacon st.
Hi Robin,

Sorry about your bum. Is that how the term "bummer" started?

I've been doing more 'snow-blower' workouts than anything else this week. Between having to spend the time clearing my driveway and having roads that were just to nasty to be able traverse safely, I've only been able to get in one decent workout this week.

Boston has already had more snow this month than all of last winter, and who knows what the next two to three months will hold? So keep your YakTraks and snow shoes by the door so you can deal with whatever comes - but try to stay upright!
