So is this the fitness thread?

Skipped my swim this morning in favor of a bit more sleep. Shoulda gotten up to swim; all I did instead was toss and turn anyway.

My paces last night S U C K E D bigtime. Egad, I was a big loser on the track. Oh well. It's done.

I'm just a ray of sunshine today, aren't I???

Morning Gang -

Yes, big WOOT to Solar for finally getting the go ahead to run! Be smart and ease your way back in. So excited for you!!

Theia - at least you got out there and did the track workout last night!

I got 4.3 miles done this morning in crazy wind and with SNOW flurries! Yipee! Also got pilates done this morning.

Better get some work done now!

Greetings all.

Solar - WOOHOO for getting the go-ahead.

I am hopefully going to get 2-3 miles in today. For the first time in 48 hours, I actually am starting to feel human again from the cold/bug/allergy attack. As Beth pointed out on FB, at least this is happening during my taper period, but with a HM in 4 days, I'm a little anxious, to say the least.

BTW: on that topic, I know we're not supposed to pop ibuprofen or acetomenaphen (sp?) before a race because of the stress they can cause on the liver/kidneys. I assume the same is probably the same for any allergy/cold medication - but if anyone has some inside info on something relatively safe to take, I'd sure appreciate it!

Congrats Solar!!

RFTL- we had snow on Saturday and yesterday was 75!!

Has anyone struggled with heel pain? It's not Achilles, but when I press on the heel bone itself I could almost jump through the roof because it's so tender. I have no idea what I've done. I haven't changed shoes (running or otherwise) or banged it. But it's bothering me more and more lately both when I run and even just walk around. Anyone else have a thought?

Ailarie- Neti pot? Hot tea? Altoids mints? Are you just stuffy headed or do you have chest problems too? Often if I run when I'm stuffy, I start to beathe better once I'm warmed up. Someone (Tonya or KP I think) told me last year that the rise in our body temp helps to thin out the mucus (like warming up honey), which is why my nose runs as much as my feet.

Thanks! It was so great to run yesterday, though I don't really feel like I'm back at it because it's only one mile, then a short break then another mile. My PT wanted me to run today, too, but I'm not going to. She's not a runner, and though she's good at her job, I know I shouldn't be running more than a couple days in a row, even as short as the running is -- it's still stress on the leg. SO, I'm heading to the pool for a swim after work. (I can't believe how rational/smart I'm being with this. Who am I???!!!)

Ailarie - is it painful on the bottom of your heel or the back?

RFTL - SNOW?! geez! It's too early!

Litch - hang in there

HEY - PACER, PTOM, JEN, COACHT, LARRY - whatcha been up to? Check in with us!

and mods - can someone put something "fitness" into the thread title? I think this may have been a sceond fun thread that has become the fitness thread, so it might need a re-title...

It's definitely the back of my heel, not the bottom. I felt it first a couple of weeks ago, and it has just become more persistent since then. If I take my thumb and press on the back of the heel bone itself, it's RIGHT there. Not dead center under the Achilles, but just a tad to the right.

Morning all,

Crazy weather out there right now. We have a storm front coming through along with Tornado warnings. Did that keep us from running ? NO! I met the group for our Wed morning run. I managed 6.6 miles and didn't feel too sporty on the way back in. I also had to have a bathroom break. Oh well. We ran between rain storms and it was hot and humid. Crazy.

This evening is the track club halloween run and cookout. So, I'll be running again. yeah.

It's all head stuff w/ a sore throat. Nothing in the chest. I did have a fever briefly yesterday, but I think that's a done deal. Perhaps I should carry a bunch of kleenex with me on Saturday, eh?

Hey all! I woke up at 5:00, heard the howling 40 mph winds and went back to sleep. And now I feel cranky and out of sorts because I have not run in 3 days. Doesn't help that I started work by ready one supah obnoxious e-mail. Gah.

Good morning, guys. Late first check-in for me...

Yay, Solar! Welcome back to the world of running! Yeah, make sure you don't overdo it on your way back.

I did an easy 3 yesterday. I'll do something more challenging today. Either a tempo run or a hill run. I haven't decided yet...

Shannon - sounds like PF to me. In addition to stretching out your foot, really work on your calves

Hi all - let's just say ART on your foot and ankle really really sucks. But I guess it's progress when you can hear(!) bones and ligaments creak back to a better level of mobility

Going for a run after work today - probably something tempo-like

Yay Solar! Looking forward to you getting back on your feet, so to speak

Hugs to you who are battling the weather and/or under the weather, and good runs, workouts and/or rest days to you all

This is what I am leaning toward after searching online. The pain is most accurately described under calcaneous apophysitis, but that is usually restricted to people under 20.

When I stretch, I don't feel any relief in that spot. I've had PF in my other foot but that has been more arch/under foot? This is definitely different, but maybe it's just affecting a different area? I'm going to pick up some heel cups and see if that helps at all.
