I went out XC skiing, which in retrospect, wasn't such a good idea. I thought it would be a blast, but the temp is 10 and wind chill that much below zero. I did about a 26-minute loop in the neighborhood, and when I got back here, couldn't feel my hands. I totally fell apart but my family helped me recover and then I got a scolding from DW. I had the clumsiness and shallow breathing, and of course, my hands starting hurting. My fingers still hurt typing this.

Careful there, Opie! Sorry so many of you are dealing with bad weather and cold. I'm not. And happy about it, thankuverymuch. Of course, as Rindaroo pointed out last night, it's all relative. I'm delighted that we could see 20° today, warmest it's been in weeks!

I got out for another outdoor run last night, slow with the new snow. It's funny how just a little bit (less than an inch, really) makes such a difference when it's all tracked up and over ice. The trip back up the hill was hard, but I went around another loop for an extra mile, so 6.3 miles at around 8:47 average pace. Tonight I'd like to do the hilly run like last Wednesday, then probably finish on the treadmill. I can only do two laps of those hills before my legs are done. Heading to Juneau Friday evening, then Dallas next week so cramming miles in now.

Glad you're OK, Opie.

I agree, Erika. A little bit of snow over pavement make for really lousy footing.

We got about 6" of the white stuff last night, and I headed out for a run around noon today, as I'm working from home and was looking for a break. While I used the trail shoes, plus YakTracks, the hardest parts to run were where the plows had been thru, leaving about an inch on the pavement. The unplowed road, with just the ruts from the cars was much easier to navigate. Got in a very slow, but satisfying 5.7 miles.

More snow coming down now!

Hi Gang,

Opie, careful now. 10F with wind has to be taken seriously.

I got back from FLA yesterday around noon, Mine was the last flight in before everything shut down. I've had 3 sessions with the shovel since returning, and now my shoulder is sore. I prefer the mid 70's and sunshine I left behind. Anyway, 10 miles this morning on the TM. 8:30 pace avg. I have to get back into training mode.

Shot a 79 in the first round, a disappointing 83 in the 3rd round. We won't discuss round #2. Horrible course...

Mike, I've also been known to blame a course or two for my bad scores. Plus a bevy of other excuses. But nice going on the 79. I have not seen a score below 80 in a long, long time.

I'm with Erika: I'm happy about our dry, sunny weather. Sorry about your bad weather in other parts of the US, I'm glad I don't have to deal with it. The glare off my white legs while wearing shorts yesterday didn't even bother me...

It will be a rare Wednesday run for me tonight; I almost always take it off. But I'm going to the Oregon-Washington State basketball game tomorrow night, so I'll RAW. Then Mrs. Labduck and I will go out to celebrate Groundhog Day/National LOI Day. They're both important holidays to us!

I wonder if Lab's white glare is as bad as my white glare. . . . I'll be doning my shorts for a run this afternoon also. probably long sleeve shirt though. Just had lunch with Rinda and John at Lab's favorite pizza place, veggie pizza. twas scrumptious! Leaving work at about 3:30 to take advantage of our sun and mild temps. running my intervals on the Bear Creek path.

The pics I've seen of all the snow is mind boggling. A friend in Chicago sent me some pics of their yard and driveway - pre and post shoveling. wow!

My dad just booked my flights back to MN this summer. My son, my parents and I are heading back for 8 days in June. I guess now that I have my flights set, I can go ahead and register for Grandma's. . . prices just went up yesterday though. arghh, timing is everything.

I had some good Brooks gloves on but will probably get some of their mittens soon. They work for you, right, Erika?

Tammy, even though you're running in shorts there, I bet you played in the snow as a kid.

Opie, of course I played in the snow when I was a kid. We only had 4 channels on our television and no video games to play, so I did what kids did back then and that was to play for hours outside in the snow, build forts, make snow angels, have snowball fights.

Blondie and I had the Anytime Fitness all to ourselves for about 45 minutes until Bob Seger came in. Well, Andrew Zimmern was there too but all he did was eat.

Recovery run after my hard run yesterday. Started at 8:57 pace and worked my way down to 8 minute pace where I kept it the last 20 minutes. 7.25 miles 60:00 3% incline 1,150 ft elevation gain.

Yeah, the cold is relative....7 miles this morning in the woods, 28°F, wore tights, gloves, wool hat, long sleeve shirt & short sleeve shirt, not to mention other essentials. One of those crummy runs I'd just as soon forget.

Opie, I have some double layer Brooks mitts, I really like them. Fleecy liner, nylon outer, fuzzy stuff on the thumbs (my nose wiper!). Warm, washable, very nice. Also very old. Hope you can find some like them.

I'm about to be sprung loose from here, then off to run. It's so cool to see some light at the end of the day!! Although it fades fast and I'm wearing a headlamp for these after work outside runs.

Three easy miles ran way too fast (like 15K pace...). Stoopid sunshine made me do it.

Got on the treadmill early this morning, since I had intervals on my mind and there was way too much slush on the ground to deal with. So I got 'er done and shoveled later. 5x half-mile repeats at 8:30 with 2 min recoveries at 10:00. 7 miles in total. That's a tough pace for me, and 5 repeats were enough.

Looking forward to my rest day tomorrow (for a change) since my right leg is feeling all sorts of not-right.

Hi all, (waving to Johnny as well)

Ben's doing fine today and showing verrrrry early signs of being able to convert a few short term memories to long term. yay! I have to keep telling myself to realize that his recovery is going to take a very long time, longer than I care to think about. But recovery it is... The gross and fine motor left hand side recovery is proceeding along nicely, but he can't tie his shoes or put in contacts yet. That will come with a lot of practice over time. Far more important and concerning at this point (what I termed "slow terror" last week) is the damage to the part of the brain that converts those memories. He's in a dreamlike state where no visual memories are recorded, and very few events. He can memorize key words, however, and that really throws people for a loop.

I have been running every other day; about 3 miles. That's all I have the time, energy, or desire to run right now. But I am still tempted to throw my hat into the ring for the half at Knoxville!

Hey, Econo, any good news is news worth celebrating! I bet he just continues to get better as time goes on. Continued hugs and healing vibes sent your way!

I had a nice hilly run tonight, followed up with half hour on the treadmill. It was 12° and starting to snow so my timing was pretty good. Didn't even need the headlamp for the first couple miles, but then had to stop and turn it on because I couldn't see the dips and bumps. Kind of a drag stumbling around in the dark. So... 8.1 hilly miles on the neighborhood roads, then 3.4 on the treadmill in 30 minutes. My face was very cold by the time I came inside, but warmed up nicely in the garage on the 'mill. 11.5 miles total.
