I'm in the 50-54 age group. I do fair to middling in most of my races. Nothing earth shattering but usually in the upper 50% of my age group. But when running races with the Atlanta Track Club I'm really a turtle when running. I ran the YMCA 4 miler a couple of weekends ago - 8:30 pace, not bad, but 19 out of 26 in my age group. Even if I look at the next age group I would be near the bottom. And then when I look at the 60-64 age group I still would have barely come in 3rd.

I'm not sure if it's just that faster runners tend to be in the Atlanta Track Club races or what but someday I know I'm going to have the dubious distinction of being dead last in my age group. I guess as long as the race walkers don't pass me I can live with it.

This one race walker totally smoked me at that race.

The Atlanta Track Club has their competitive runners at the races. I wouldn't take it too hard. It's like a big race, with locally competitive runners, all condensed down.

I had a racewalker smoke me more than once. The most memorable was at a 10K. It was the lady who came to speak at the marathon group. All she did was *win* her inaugural marathon (Honolulu) in the racewalk division. So, I didn't feel so bad about it.

YMMV,
