Food...

I know it might be difficult for some of you to get these things, but, I have a Whole Foods near me, and they sell a lot of grain (and other stuff) in bulk. It's a little pricey, in the sense that you are paying a lot for how much you get, but a little goes a long way. Not sure if you understand what I mean. It's sort of like, saffron costs hundreds of dollars a pound, but you only use an infinitesimal amount, so it only costs you a dollar.

I've taken to buying wheatberries, kamut, and beans. Which beans? Different every time. They have a huge selection of dried beans. Most I've never heard of, you have to look up on the internet to find out what they are.

Anyway, I soak them all over night, rinse, then boil for two hours the next day.

What I do then is, scoop out about a cup of this and mix it with maybe some low-cal salad dressing, and eat it as a snack mid-meals. LOADED with protein and fiber, and a lot of other minerals, depending on which variety of bean you buy.

So, for about $5, I get a "snack" that lasts two weeks. I freeze half of it, put the rest in the fridge. At the end of the week I always have some left over...I toss that, then grab the stuff from the freezer.

I have also, sometimes, put a can of Rotel diced tomatoes and green chilis in it sometimes, or corn, or other stuff. makes it a little more interesting.

Wheatberries are now on my short list. I've used them in vegetarian chili many times. It's a nice substitution for meat. Lots of texture, and fiber.
