Ok....

I'm feeling a bit like channeling my buddy Tithers.

So...in that light.....

A contest of sorts, with all the normal prizes in internet-land.

My events:

Saturday:

1650 freestyle (tentative, if someone no shows and I get their spot) (if I get in: seed time: 24:00.00)

100 IM (seed time: 1:28)

50 free (seed time: :33.0)

200 free (if I get in the 1650, this one will be cancelled) (seed time: 2:35)

Sunday:

50 back (seed time: :41.00)

50 breast (seed time: :48.00)

100 free (seed time: 1:13.00)

Official heat sheet can be found at:

http://www.auburnmasterswimmers.org/masters_heat_sheet.pdf

Training specifics....or generalities as they may be.

1) NOT in an IM training cycle.

2) approximately 10k yds/week as training volume, 2 distance days per week, 1 speed/power day, one "regular" day)

3) seed times are not PRs, but are within 1-2 seconds of PRs........more like "reasonable expectations --- I hope."

So, choices for each even are:

a) beat seed time (estimated "beat by" amount)

b) miss seed time (estimated "missed by" amount)

c) PR baby! (I need my own prize for PRs)

d) other prediction of entertaining nature (please explain)

Who's up for a game at my expense?

Ok....

Ron wins the prize for the wardrobe malfunction, although it wasn't a major one.

A few of us ordered the same suit from swim outlet and when I put mine on, the stitching on the strap ripped. Not enough to have it fall off, but enough that I'm sending it back for a replacement. It just shouldn't do that the first time it's worn.

500 free: 7:07 and change

100 free: 1:13 and change

50 breast: :48ish (closest to my seed time of all of them)

50 back: 42.58 (so so on the start)

2 day meets are really interesting. You have to have a great base in order to have good swims the entire weekend, because they are energy suckers, that's for sure.

I was EXHAUSTED last night, due mainly to not eating enough during the day, and having a crap ass night's sleep on Friday.

No PR's but I wasn't expecting any. All in all, I'm satisfied with my status right now.

According to the coach, based on my mile and 500 times, I should easily be able to train for and hold 1:30's for the Bay Swim. That would put me solid middle of the pack, not counting any time lost due to navigational errors.

WHOO HOO!!!! Although I hope I didn't jinx you and CAUSE it... well, unless it was on film, then it was totally on purpose!!! (and I'll take my share of the AFV prize money thank you!)

I've only done 1 (2) day (well 3 if you include the mile on Friday) in the last few years and totally agree, massive energy suck. For such a small amount of swimming!

Naw......you didn't cause it Ron.

You posted it AFTER I'd already started, and it happened as I put it on.

Actually, if you add up the warm up and cool down yardage with the race yardage, you'd be surprised what a multi day meet will put into your log book.

So...

I normally do between 1000-1200 yd warm up before the meet starts, depending on how many dives I practice.

Then, 2-300 cooldown depending on the length of the event.

So, yesterday:

1000 warmup.

1650 race

350 cooldown

100 IM

100 cooldown

50 free

100 cooldown

150 warm up before relay

50 in a relay

200 cooldown for the day

total: 3200 yds.....PLUS, using energy to keep warm between events. I'm convinced that the energy suck comes from keeping warm.

Today:

1150 warmup (LOTS of backstroke start practices)

500 race

300 cooldown

200 warm up before race

50 back

100 cooldown

100 free

150 cooldown

150 warmup before race

50 breast

100 warmup

50 in a relay

2900 yds.......and keeping warm.

Plus, they're back to back days, so you don't have any recovery.

All in all, though, I'm in a good place.

I had a hard 1500 yd set the other day in practice that I did in 24:45 so my 24:33 for the mile which is 150 more yards puts me in a good place for where I want to be.

We did discover that I have a fitness/training/pacing issue with longer races. So, that's definitely something we can work on. I need to be able not to fall apart during the last third of an event.

Dinner at Moe's cures all ails!!!

Congrats on a fun but exhausting meet, feeling good about your base, and confidently readying yourself for what sounds like a pretty impressive bay swim.

PS. If you think swimming in two day meets are energy sucking, you should try spectating in them . I'm still trying to clear the chlorine fog from my head....

Yeah....there's definitely a lack of fresh air in pools over a period of two days.

At least spectators aren't wet and trying to stay warm! lol

This year, there were (what seemed like) a TON of little kids there....cheering on Mom and/or Dad.

We tend to see the same group of people enter the meet each year, so some of these kids weren't here a year or three ago.

It's really awesome to hear from the stands (above the pool deck)....

"Go Daddy, go daddy GO DADDY GO DADDY GO GO GO GO Daddy....."

From little Mickey and Minnie Mouse voices.
