Who wears an aero helmet? I usually buy something for tri's every year....and right now, I'm leaning towards an aero helmet. I'm sure I really don't need one...I'm a 20-22mph HIM guy...but that competitive side of me keeps saying go for it...any thoughts?

I have an aero helmet from Rudy Project - the Syton Open to be exact. I'm sure you can find something more aero, but this seems to get the job done just fine for me- and I average in the same ballpark as you MPH-wise.

Isn't an aero helmet the most bang for the buck when it comes to aero equiptment? Seems like I read that before. I say go for it. You say you don't need one, but maybe it could get you to a 21-23mph HIM speed, or more.

Aren't they XYZABC certified for crashes though? Although I think the shell would shatter, seems the inner stuff is cushy and all

Mine doesn't reall seem designed to stay on your head the way a normal helmet does, plus many injuries are caused by bouncing repeated rear headstikes and I suspect the long tail woul just catch and cause a broken neck or just knock the helmet off. If you are a worry wart about safety when you do an individual start race (which is not altogethr unwarranted given the way I see people weaving around on their bikes in triathlons) you may want to take the CPSC sticker with a grain of salt, but that's just my opinion. I wear one and don't worry about the safety issues, but that's a risk I'm willing to take.

Is it worthwhile for a slowbie like me? I won a contest at school for being such a super-athlete that I'm getting some money my way. My team won...I need a new helmet...but what to get?

I got the Giro Advantage 2 for Christmas and I'll race with it in a few weeks.
