I was very nervous going into this race. I had run a 5K a few weeks ago and was disappointed with my time and how I had felt the whole race. Also, I ran this race last year. It was the first race I had ever run. I really was hoping for an improved time from last year (48:0. It would have proved to me that I actually have worked and improved. Also, it was the last race in the local summer series I have been running. I had been in first place in my age group (only because I showed up for all the races) and wanted to make sure I finished that way.

I would say there were 300-400 people there. Its a pretty well attended race (for this area). It's definitely one of the most competetive races I have run.

As the race started, I worried about starting out too fast. I had to keep it in my head that I am only running against myslef and worry only about what I am doing. I settled into my pace and it felt awesome!! The first 2.5 miles were flat to rolling. Then we hit a hill. It was the hill that almost made we quit the race last year. I just kept on going up it and realized I could do it! Awesome!! It did slow me down a little, but once we got back to the rolling section, I felt awesome! I finished the race 42:33!!

I wound up getting a phone call from one of the other racers whose daughter happens to go to school with mine. She had told me that after the race awards, they did the series awards and I had won my AG AND a $25 gift certificate to the local running store! Totally made my day and my faith in my running!
