....looking great as they continue to blow everyone away and score all those points they pale in comparison to....

In 1901 Michigan scored 550 points in 11 games. One game....128 points. While that is impressive that ain't nothing compared to the fact they gave up.........ZERO. Yep a season where they were never scored on. That's as good as it gets.

Or is it?

From 1901 to 1904 they went undefeated. They scored over 70 points...13 times. They scored over 100 points 4 times. They gave up a total of....36 points. 12 being the most in one game. Not about to add up all the points they scored in that period. In 1905 they finally lost a game. They lost to Chicago....0-2.

While that was pretty amazing it pales in comparision to this.

Bedford County Training (all black school) School in Shelbyville Tennessee won 78 games in a row from 1942-1949. That's not the stunner however, this is...

In the first 3 years no opponet ever crossed the 50 yard line on them. That's past incredible. It's more like a fantasy. For the first 52 games nobody ever scored on them. Wow!

That school is now known as Harris High School.

Another ...wow!...would be Georgia Tech beating Cumberland....222-0. One guy scoring 18 tds!

Then there's the great Ken Hall out of Sugar Land High School in Texas. All he did was score.....899 points in his HS career. In his senior year he scored...45 tds. At least 3 tds in every game. Twice scoring...7 tds in a game.

Amazing stuff!

This isn't wayyyyyyyyy back when. When Jerry Rice was at Mississippi Valley State they ran a spread formation with no (until they got in the redzone) running backs. Willie Totten simply stood back there in the shotgun then looked for one of five receivers, usually finding Rice. They were scoring over 50 points a games.

paste...

He is one of a few coaches ever to coach in a stadium named after them. His teams played in Rice-Totten Field, named for him and legendary NFL wide receiver Jerry Rice. Totten was Rice's quarterback at MVSU, and with Rice as his target, Totten set more than 50 Division I-AA passing records. His team scored 59 points a game, and in one year he threw for a record 58 touchdowns. Totten played professionally in the CFL with the BC Lions (1986) and Toronto Argonauts (1987) before moving on to the NFL, as a replacement player for the Buffalo Bills

Whern I think of Georgia Tech I think of great 400m/400IH guys. Then there's Ben Vaughn the last white 100m sprinter from the USA to be world ranked. Football...Eddie Lee Ivery.

The Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech.....gotta love it!

Last night was the first time that I really watched to see how the Oregon offense works. I only half watched (because other games were on) when they beat up on Tennessee. But, my Dad was at that game and I remember him telling me that they were running 3 plays per minute. Last night, on average, they snapped the next play with 25 seconds remaining on the play clock. That means that there was only 15 seconds from the time the whistle blew the play dead until snap, the next play goes. Very impressive. UCLA knew that they need to keep the ball away from Oregon, but they were unable to convert on 3rd downs to put long clock chewing drives together that resulted in points. Not many teams (if any) are going to win a shoot out against Oregon.

The Trojans do have a decent passing game. Problem is their 90th ranked defense. Like you mentioned the Ducks are constant/quick pressure. Unless they have an off day I can't see anyone on their schedule dealing with them. If they continue to have the success they are having watch other teams attempt that hurry up offense, not that they'll have the athletes to pull it off.

I watched a bit of the third quarter last night.

They had a TD drive that went 65 yards, five plays, in something like 1:03?

What the hell? They are putting on a show out there, that's for sure.

There has been some discussion about whether the constant TV timeouts in bowl games might be our biggest enemy, forcing us to get out of our pace and allowing defenses to recover more fully. Interesting thought.

Getting the ref to place the ball quickly is also important, and our coaches try hard to emphasize that to the officials. Some deliberate slow-down home-cooking could also be bothersome to this point.

I'm really impressed with how our sophomore QB Thomas has progressed. Last night he was given a ton of protection and he looked extremely poised.
