No fitness here, but I thought I'd start the thread anyhow.

Good luck to any racers. I have no idea what's going on in this thread. I need a kick in the butt to re-start my fitness.

Frankie - how is the return to fitnessing going?

I got 7 slow miles done this morning. Felt good. Kept it super slow so I didn't fall on the icy spots.

Good runs to all today!

I had a nice run of 11.6 miles. That's the last long run before the Little Rock Marathon. All set, I guess...

4 miles with J this morning around campus. It was cold, my back was grumpy, and it was slower than I wanted to do today. Blech. At least it's done. Tomorrow is another scheduled rest day, but I see some conflicts brewing for the rest of the week, so I may try to catch a class at the gym in the afternoon and rotate things around a bit.

Greetings all. Another annual Charles Harris Run for Leukemia event is in the books. Ironically, I was one SECOND slower than last year. Bah! Wish I could figure out how to enjoy the downhill portion within the last mile, without feeling like I'm going to puke in the final few blocks, that have a few minor hills in them! :)

Hey peeps!

Long time no run for me, but this morning marked a return to the land of the runners. Only a mile, plus a warm-up and cool down, but I'll take it, it wasn't super slow (or fast, for that matter), and I was out the door by 6:55am. Methinks I'm going to have to make myself into a morning runner, because it looks like that's the only consistent time I'm going to have. So, I shall learn to LOVE the mornings...

I've also been walking around two miles a day total, back and forth to work, since before Thanksgiving, so I think that made this return not so painful.

I've got "Princess Bride" and some oatmeal waiting for me... have a great day! I've missed you guys.

Yeah! Another early morning runner! You will love it. IMHO, there is nothing like starting the day off with a run. Makes the whole rest of the day seem so much better! Glad to see you back here.

YES! Listening to the birds chirping and the river flowing & critters scurrying about is a great way for this [non-social] morning person to ease into the day.

10-10.25 on the tm. I'm not entirely sure, because we blew a fuse. I knit it was about a mile in, but am not sure if it was just under or over. So I threw in the other .25 just to make sure I hit double digits. I haven't run double digits since the summer, so YAYAYAYAY!

My left hip ached a bit the whole time, and during the last half mile was starting to get the jabby ITB knee pain. But it's done.

I'm going to go stretch. And eat a giant bowl of the vat of soup Dh made last night.

Yay! Nice work Kath!

And glad to see you are returning to the run, Anne!! Morning running takes a couple weeks to get used to, but it is well worth it. It is so much easier for me to run first thing in the moring as opposed to after work.

Duck - why running on the treadmill? 15 miles is very, very, very impressive on the TM.

It was snowing here yesterday, but I got in 8 slow miles. It was actually very pretty running in the heavy falling snow. But it was COLD and added a nice little layer of white stuff on the streets. I am hoping it melts some so the roads are semi-clear after church when I head out for my long run. I am scheduled for 16 with 12 at MP, but if it is snowy, I'll just shoot for 18-20.

Happy weekend, all!

The weather today is just, simply, intoxicating. Sunny, crisp but warm at the same time, and blue sky. I found out my favorite yoga instructor was subbing for the 9am class today, so I split my short run up -- drove to the studio and set up my mat, ran 2 miles before class started, sweated my ass off for 90 minutes of hot (it was~95* in the studio), meditative stretching, then ran out of the studio for the remaining 3 miles of an easy recovery run. Stepping out of the hot class into the 50* temps for the run was invigorating. Yum. After a solid 12 miler yesterday, I'm feeling good about my workouts this weekend. Love it.

Moonie -- question for ya: It looks like I'll probably be in the Napa area this summer (July 21-25, I think). Do you happen to know of any races there that weekend? It would be cool to jump into something while the rest of my friends are sleeping in from all our wine-country touring. Or even any info on a bike tour I could do? The rest of my crew isn't really active, but I'd like to do something while I'm there! Thanks!

Strictly a time management decision. DW has been working more, I've been working more and the kids have been busy with activities. Jumping on the TM at 7 pm is about my only chance to get my mileage in right now. Getting up early isn't a good option for me because my ankle doesn't work in the morning, it really needs to be used a bit before running.

Hi all - first run since my grandma passed away; 3.75 sleasy miles. Felt good to be out there - I think I'm just going to ease into some mileage until I can figure out what's bothering my right side (it did seem to be getting better while I wasn't doing anything, which is odd because I didn't much of anything after Twin Cities and if nothing else it got worse...oh, well)

I kinda' made the decision to base build into something good either late fall or next spring; what that will be is TBD.

WTG Ailarie!!! A second slower - were you hoping for a PR of some sort or was this right about where you were aiming?

Hey Lora - there's nothing immediately in the Napa area per se, and it seems to be a slow week in general for the region.

There seem to be two big events that could be a reason why that is - one event happens 150 miles away from here but is huge in scope, at least trail-running-wise: The Western States 100. The other more local big event that weekend seems to be the Envirosports Alcatraz "Escape From The Rock" Triathlon, which should not be confused with the more famous Accenture "Escape From Alcatraz" Triathlon or the Tri-California San Francisco Triathlon at Alcatraz (the latter two are related due some weird split-up in the organization; not sure quite what the deal is with the Envirosports' edition.)

If you want to do some trail running, Coastal Trail Runs has the Golden Gate Trail Run at Rodeo Beach north of the Golden Gate Bridge - I've done a 20K out there before; the terrain is gorgeous and a bit challenging.

If you're mobile, you can head out to my old college stomping grounds in Davis Saturday evening to do the Moo-nlight Half-Marathon and 5K - it's typically 90-100 degrees during the day in the Central Valley, which makes this night race a nice escape from the heat.

A real cheapie race option would be to pay $5 for the DSE Runners' Fort Mason 5K in San Francisco; this race is a part of a series of low-key, no-frills (save for timing and race ribbons), all-abilities welcome events that this running group hosts throughout the year.

There's always the option of renting a bike and traveling around San Francisco and/or the Silverado Trail in Napa also. Regardless, I'll definitely keep my eye out for more potential stuff
