12.0 run yesterday. First few miles were at a nice 70F temperature. The rest of the miles weren't particularly fun, but they're done, at least. Then I got another stupid dehydration headache around 4pm yesterday. This, despite drinking maybe 16 oz during the run (I don't drink much during), 14oz on the way home, a 12 oz muscle milk, a 32 oz powerade, and then sipped on some water after. Ugh.

Although I'm not sure how it'll work, i"m thinking that maybe i need to fill my water flasks with powerade instead of water for the run - maybe get an earlier start on electrolyte replacement, though i've heard that doing so + eating a gel or two isn't advisable. Meh.

Butt/ab work is done for the day with bi/tri/core/thigh stuff still on tap.

Missy - yep, GR is my goal race for the fall.

6.1 miles this morning, although with the temp at 72F and dewpoint at 69F when I started I think today's run could actually count as a swim. Only goal for the run was to log the miles, take it easy, and use it as an acclimatizing run. Conditions are supposed to be shitty all week.

Morning all! Had a really fun weekend in DC w/J's kickball team and other fans. I got a great run in Saturday morning along the C&O Canal, nice towpath with a bike path running parallel in parts and lots of pretty scenery - 10 mi in total. Always forget out super outdoorsy DC is; there were tons of other runners, road cyclists, mt. bikers, walkers, fly fishermen, canoers, kayakers and some standing paddle board peeps. Had a fun day at the fields after that cheering on J's team too; no big tourney win but some good quality play. Made it back to NYC in time to catch some of the women's world cup final and then split up my LR into two chunks 8 mi/8mi so that I could recover a bit and hydrate more in between each chunk; blazing hot was not my favorite temp. Got out this morning for an ez recovery run of 6.95 mi.

Ailarie - I, too, have to drink TONS to run and recover from summer running; it's a bit startling the amount of liquid it takes.

Congratulations boB & Melis!!!

Today is the first official day of my marathon training. And what did the plan call for? A rest day. I thought that was funny.

Yesterday I did the run portion of the Port Hood Triathlon. The day started off sunny but kinda cool. And we haven't had the warm weather so far this year to warm the ocean up. The water temps were hovering around 54 F. They considered cancelling that part but went ahead with a shortened Olympic course. I'm so glad it wasn't me in the water! By the time the run started it was pretty warm out so I sweat quite a bit. But I finished ok and our team came in 5th overall.

morning

4 miles this morning - temp was still warm for MN 78 or 80 I think but the dewpoint was only 70F! It felt so much better. that is sad that I am saying that...

I guess yesterday we had the highest heat index in the northern hemisphere or something & our dew points were higher than the amazon. NICE!

planning on level 3 shred this afternoon. Ragnar is coming up and I would like to be able to be shirtless and unashamed if need be.

Ailarie, what about salt tablets? (Please note that I have never used them and have absolutely no idea if they would help prevent a dehydration headache. I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on tv.)

KP, it was nasty here this morning too. 74 degrees and 98% humidity at 6 a.m. when I taught. It was a sweatfest. Every time we stopped to do a drill, the sweat was just pouring off us. I took it a little easy on the group, also because I'm tapering and don't want to do anything stupid this week. My ankle is all sorts of jacked up (I jammed it) from jumping up and down on temporary metal flooring at the U2 concert Thursday night, and I'm doing more of the same this week when I see them again.

You crack me up, Brandy.

Congrats to Bob and Crane for their races this weekend! And to J for his kickball tournament.

Because of the concert Thursday, I switched my rest day last week... Which means I had 3 hard days in a row this weekend.

FRIDAY

trainer ride in the a.m., tempo run in the p.m.

SATURDAY

brick - 30 mile bike + 3 mile run

SUNDAY

6 mile tempo run + extra credit swim (I did 1,800 yards of drills and intervals)

My legs were toast this morning! Another reason class was maybe a little easier than normal.....

so crazy story

Yesterday a woman we run with who also does Tri's got her Specialized bike stolen off her car.

Nothing on the security tape, cops no help etc. She put a note on facebook and also an ad on craiglist.

We hear this today:

Okay, now that I have a moment. I posted an ad on Craiglist last night and had an email this morning from someone that saw it outside of the Target at Knollwood, not locked. Went there this morning after looking on the trail a little and low and behold, they had it. It had been left there overnight and was STILL there this morning when the mgr got there. He brought it inside and he had also just seen my craigslist post and while I was just coming into the store, had sent me an email to contact him! Apparently the thief may have dropped off my bike in the front, walked in and stole a more rideable bike from Target. He got out thru a fire door. The good news is they have video of him!!! Happy Birthday week to me!!

How crazy! The thief actually rode her 2K bike to target and stole a 150 buck one

Brandy - that is crazy! So glad she got her bike back though!

It was insanely gross here this morning. Wet and soupy. Monday is typically a rest day for me and I decided to sleep in. I will do pilates later if my GOTR board meeting doesn't go too late.

Ailarie - I put nuun tablets in my water and it does help. It gives you electrolytes without the sticky sweet Gatorade nastiness.

Congratulations to Bob, Melissa, and Colleen this weekend! Woot!

I did the BOMF 20in24 relay with my friends this weekend. Click on that link for the full report. Quick version: we won our division! My second leg was 40 seconds faster than my first (both 8.5 miles) and today my legs feel like I ran a marathon. But it was fun! Thanks to Maria, Kp, Amichel, moonie, and Beaks for your support!

I didn't sleep at all overnight, and only got about a 45 minute power nap in before heading to the awards ceremony and then right to work. I went to be around 9pm, completely exhausted, but happy with how the whole experience went :)

I haven't run in ages but Moonie and I did get in a fair bit of walking on Saturday on the island. We took the ferry that dropped us off on the far end, so I just used Map My Run and figure we got in about 7 miles of walking for the day (6.5 on the island itself, plus walking from the car to the ferry and back). That's more than I expected for some reason.

Thanks for the salt tablet tips, folks. I've got to come up with plan B, no doubt. I've heard of Nuun, and S! caps, but I think I like the idea of popping something in the water in advance instead of having to juggle a pill to pop while on the go. I'll see if I can find something locally. i still have a lingering headache today, even though the 'see what color your urine is' test tells me that I'm hydrated. Maybe I should go attack a package of potato chips or something.

Brandy - good gravy, your friend is lucky! I still am in shock that the thief ditched a 2k bike for a $150 one. As Bugs Bunny used to say, "What a maroon!!" Yah for your friend, though! She must be a GREAT person for such amazing karma to work out this way! :)

Thanks for the congrats, guys. But I didn't really do much to deserve them. I ran a PW by 5 minutes. It doesn't take too much effort to do that. But I ran with a friend, so that was fun...

I didn't run today becuase I had a crazy day at work. Drove out to see a vendor and just got home now. I drove a bit over 300 miles today and now I'm really pooped. My mileage has been way down over the past week. Sooner or later I'm gonna have to start training for Utah, eh?

bOb - I missed it and need to go see what great feats you accomplished this weekend.

Ailarie - I am the same way about tablets, etc. I only take nuun with me if I take my water belt thingy and it is pre-mixed. Otherwise, it is great for hydrating right before and after runs. PM me your address and I'll send you some to try. I have a boatload here (ha - that was a big xmas gift from the boys - TONS of nuun). You know you are a runner when . . . .

Speaking of which, my friend's daughter volunteered for the Madison Marathon. She is not a runner at all but they gave her about 100 GUs. SCORE baby. Guess who they quickly handed them off to.
