Ok...

Got a room....
'bout a mile from the race site....
for GCT.

Want to volunteer.

But, What're the "best" or "fun" ways to volunteer?

I know that anything will be fun....but, well....what's most fun?

I don't have the special skills required for anything special...this would be run of the mill "show up and do what you're told."

Please volunteer for registration. The nice old people gave me the WRONG things at registration for both GCT and IMFL!

They are nice...and OLD...for some reason I keep getting other people's race packets!

Is that the day before?

Ooo...
then I could do two things?

I was a finish line - catcher at IMC a few years ago. Doesn't look like this has catchers so I'd go with medal t-shirt, or finish food. Its awesome to get to talk to athletes about there races after they are done.

Information would be fun too.

I'd catch again in the blink of an eye. It was so much fun.

I'd work finish line again in a heart beat. I worked Columbus 'thon. L-o-n-g day, though. Sign-in at 7am. Race started at 8am. We had to stay 'til the official finish--6hrs.

I was a catcher at IMFL 07. And I always seem to end up at the finish line whenever I volunteer at local races. So, from my exprience, I'd say get a finish line job.
You get to interact with the athletes after their race is over.
And you can take really cool pics of all the LIT peeps too.

I remember you catching...

What were the things that you had the finishers do?
I remember you said something I think to Tithers about making people stand on one foot (but, that was a joke, right)?

At IMFL the catcher would walk with the athlete after they crossed the finish line. We'd ask if they were ok, needed med help, etc.
We'd just stay walking right beside them as they got their medal and shirt.
They would put one foot up on a short stool so someone could get their timing chip. Thus the stand on one foot joke.
We'd ask about the race, how they felt etc. Then if they seemed to be alright, show them where the food tent and massage tent were located.

We'd congradulate them again, pat them on the back and send them on their way.

No one that I walked with needed med help, but I did have to run to the med tent one time to get some EMTs for someone else's athlete.

Me and a couple other guys were pulled off the catcher line for a while to move some tables. I think that's what I was doing when Tithers crossed the line and that's why I didnt get to see her.

That's how it was set up for IM. GCT may be different.

Tithers didn't have a catcher! She also had the glory of the finish by herself...went to the med tent...then she didn't know you could take a finisher photo and missed out on that

Tithers got great finishING photos, though.

Kyle...ah, not a set of questions, rather just a set of "being nice" things.
I was confused, I guess.
