I suppose that I need to join the club and get one. I need to figure out where to put it. Wherever I do put it, I need to have cable/dvd access, so I have it broken down to two spots: the back bedroom and the garage. Is there any +'s or -'s to either?

I guess it depends on what temperature you want your space to be. Also the noise factor with music/movies turned way up and whether or not aesthetics matter to you.

If you are going to use the space daily I would go for the back bedroom especially if the room is infrequently used for any other purpose.

What happens to garage stuff like cars, etc. if you set up there?

We used to keep our treadmill/trainer in the basement surrounded by the basement "mess" and DH couldn't relax and work out without thinking that he needed to clean. As a result he built a finished workout room in our basement that is a beautiful space.

We have a finished attic room/area where I have my trainer. I like the idea of having it in the house so that I don't have to go into the cold garage in the winter, but you can hear the hum of the trainer throughout the house while I'm riding. Also, the trainer is slightly noisy (even though it was advertised as one of the quieter ones; it's a kinetic), so when I'm watching tv/movie, I have to have the volume up a fair bit. Not terrible, but I wish it was a bit quieter.

I use my trainer in the living room and crank up the volume of the television. I can't imagine not having something to watch. I usually turn down the heat but it isn't fresh, therefore, I sweat a lot, though it's been alright so far without the fan. I take my bike off the trainer each time so installation is a pain sometimes, takes just a few minutes but makes my bike less accessible. I guess I've gotten used to seeing my bike lean up against the window wall. Don't know what visitors think, but I think it's cool to see my bike there cause I know what she means to me, and heck, it's my house.

Here in Germany, I ride in the living room, and keep the trainer stored there as well. I take everything apart after every use, so it doesn't take up too much space. Back in Canada, we have a sun-deck on our house, and I'll probably use that for training. My wife doesn't want me to workout inside the house....apparently I don't smell that great while exercising.

Garage...right in front of BrewDad's brewing rig. I use our portable DVD player for DVDs.

Well, my plan for either place is to set up a tv with cable or a dvd player. I think that my best option is to put it in the garage because of space issues, but I wonder about the dirt/dust situation. Would that be a big factor to wonder about?

Garage. It's set up in front of the door so I have the option of opening the door and watching the world go by. It's also pretty cool out there. Also, I know when anyone comes out in the garage.

For years, though, I did have it set up in the basement. First of all, the cinder block wall got boring to look at. Second, I played my music too loud. Third, hubby used to find it 'amusing' to come up behind me and suprise me.

Mine's in the common room of the house.....cause that's where the TV is.
And, if I need to, I can open the front door to aid in cooling.
But, there's just me to worry about, no one else, so I have a lot more flexibility in where/when I use it.

mine is in the basement with wireless headphones for the TV----hadnt thought of the portable DVD thing--I like that idea! I dont have a working DVD player down there--so should look into that!!!

but in the summer I plan to put it on the deck while I watch the kids play outside (and just bring it in everyday....will see how that goes)......

I have a spare road bike set up on my trainer in my workshop. It stays assembled and covered with a sheet between uses. I have a large ventilation fan pointed towards the front of the bike, right next to the small TV/VCR/DVD combo. When I want to see the world, I open the garage door.

The shop is in my backyard, so I get no flak from the family. I can crank up the stereo if needed and sweat all I like.

Don't mean to hijack the thread (this and Dougie's thread are now giving the urge to buy a trainer as well), but in relation to this does floor surface make a difference (having the trainer on a hardwood surface as opposed to a shag carpet, for example)?

I put mine on a rubber mat something like this: http://www.performancebike.com/shop/...slisearch=true

I put a towel on the carpet, and put the bike & trainer on the towel.
Did I break some super secret trainer location rule doing that? lol

I have mine in the laundry room/office. I put the DVD's in my computer and watch them there. There is absolutely no room to move. I have to turn sideways to get past the bike and trainer. But it's my room and not bothering anyone else. So I'll leave it there. The dogs are unhappy. They usually like to lay by me when I'm working in my office. Now they can't get past the bike.
