Snow is on the way- FINALLY! It's been a weird winter here so far and many teachers at school were hoping for a snow day tomorrow. It may be that they get their wish!

I have heard varying reports .. most recent was a pretty wide spread 6"-12" on the ground between 4 am - 4 -m tomorrow- (Exactly perfect for a school cancellation! )

There is one danger, of course, that many will teachers and kids will stay up late, not do homework/planning in anticipation of a day off and then BAM- the storm eases on by, perhaps dumping a foot or more on Massachusetts or Maine ..but nary a flake here.. and we are all caught having to go to school...

I am DEFINITELY staying up late anyway! SNOW.. SNOW... snow....

( My snowshoes await by the door.. ready to go! .. The heck with shoveling!)

EEEEEEEK!

As a 36 year vet of public school "snowdays" which tend to melt overnight, I recommend that you don't assume the snowday will happen.

NWS - 10 to 15 inches here. Advantage - they're usually the most accurate.

Weather Channel - 9 to 12. Advantage - they've got some hot women.

Local TV weather peeps - sunny and 77 tomorrow.

I'm sitting here listening to the plows and/or salt trucks getting ready to head out.....we live across the street from the township garage...so we're always aware when the conditions are going to be 'rush-hour'challenging'

You can have all my snow!

When we were selecting a house to move into this past summer (we were given a choice for the first time ever!!) Mr Aire wanted one that sat farther back and had a looooong beautiful driveway. I told him hell to the no. If he deploys then I'm stuck shoveling by myself. He grumbled. We picked the house with probably the shortest driveway possible.

Now that HE has to shovel he's thrilled. He says he's glad I pointed that out.

Just gray and dreary in the Champlain valley for the most part this winter. Seems every time major precip comes it warms up and rains. Snow cover has been mostly 1-2" with grass sticking up through the snow most of the winter. Maybe 3-4" in Essex. I hear the (Green & Adirondack) mountains have a little more, but still not that much for this time of year. maybe 1-2' ? I read early this week the western slopes of the Greens got 18" new snow locally. This storm is supposed to miss us again, we might pick up 2-3". Just enough to make the commute a PITA. I am still hoping it vears left just a bit and puts in that 6-12" range. I want my money's worth for my snow blower. If its going to snow, then snow ! Not this 1-2" crap.

Thanks to all of you who sent your snow to us!

School was called for me at 5:05AM.. had to wait another 45 mins for the kids High School which is 20 mile northwest of here. Yes and it IS a good snow day. Power is still on .. the snow is falling and piling up. It's a classic storm with the wind blowing those little frosty edges of snow on all the windows!

John - our kids KNOW we love a day off.. we all did a snow dance yesterday!

Hazelrah, Yes they call school here much more often than when we first started in this district. Now the road agent calls it really. Our town was often one of the very few which would have school with a smaller accumulation for many years, but because we have several very steep roads ( Anyone who runs leg 26 of Reach the Beach Relay knows our favorites!). we had a couple of incidents where a bus slid off the road.. and that made lots of people nervouse. So, now they call it more often.

I probably ought to get out there and shovel! Airehead.. I don't like that part of it either really.. Maybe you can find a middle school kid to shovel for you if you need it. I know my kids are always looking for a way to earn a few bucks.. I'll send them over?

Looks like the storm may be vearing inland a bit more then originally thought, they have revised snow totals for the Champlain valley for the better:

http://www.erh.noaa.gov/btv/html/StormTotalSnow/StormTotalSnow.shtml

Not sure if that link is going to work and show everyone what I see, but the net for me is they are now showing over 6-8" for the northern Champlain Valley and South Hero, whereas this morning they were saying 1-3". So this looks like our biggest snow for the year (2010-2011 season) so far. I am at work in Essex right now and looks like 4-5" of new snow so far on the cars in the parking lot.

Raising Az, glad you got your snow day, enjoy. For me, I can do my work on line, so even if I were snowed in I could still work from home. As long as I don't lose my internet service.
