apparently in some eastern and mid western states, hunters feel they are being threatened by gov't officials & policies that are promoted by groups like peta & the humane society. funding is being cut and access to public land in some places may be restricted.

are you anti-hunting, pro hunting, or neutral? do you make a distinction between big game hunters and bird hunters?

if it were up to you, would hunting be illegal?

Neutral to positive.

There's a guy at Nate's work who hunts (and uses his kill for food) .... I'd like hunting better if he brought some in to give to me to cook.

That made me snort!

I don't have any particular feelings about it. I grew up in a family of hunters and my dad took me out once. I was to bored to ever do it again. When one of the boys would actually get something... ( I never say kill I say catch) we use all of the meat in sausage or steaks or burger but we use it all.

Animals go through phases of large herds. I think that it is natural for herds to eventually die off for one reason or another, and don't think they should be 'thinned out' by hunters.

Just use lion poop for pest control, that's what I learned here.

I have no problem with it.

I used to, but that was before I had actually talked to hunters about it. Imagine that!

Every single hunter I have ever talked to has one thing in common. They respect animals. Once they kill the animal they process it themselves. Then they freeze and divvy up the meat amongst their family. They eat what they kill. Anything they cannot use, goes either into sausage or back out onto the land to feed the vultures, or other animals.

I also know a person who donates all his meat to a charity that feeds the hungry.

I know there are many people who will disagree with hunting, and that's fine. I am just glad I gave these hunters a chance to tell me their stories, and answer my questions, before I just dismissed them as animal haters.

DH hunts for birds - ducks mostly. He eats them. I have no problem with hunters hunting but don't care to do it myself. I don't care for much of the meat that is harvested either. I don't care for those hunters that hang their deer from the tree right out front of the house or make a big thing of showing off their kill at the local convenience store, dead on the back of the truck, though.
THIS is the only animal I am seriously thinking of hunting into exctinction in my back yard.......

But we are in the "Live Free or Die " state of mind here!

As long as it is done legally and not wastefully, I don't have a big problem with it - although it isn't something I would do myself.

I don't like the idea of people killing an animal and stuffing/mounting it as a trophy. I have more respect if the animal is consumed.
