Mine is the ability to have the lifestyle you want without having to work, unless you like to

Not a specific amount of money, not a type of car you drive, not how many possessions you have.

Rich is simply being able to pay my bills, take care of my cat and dog (or dog and cat) and be healthy.

Rich to me would be: being able to buy whatever gift I really want to give people.

Like my elderly father: I would love for him to play on an ipad--it would help his Parkinson's, and dang it, he just deserves it, but I can't afford it.

Ohhh, that rich as in richness and fullness of life.

I thought you meant how much money did it take to be rich.

I have a reasonable number of toys and I'm able to travel fairly extensively.

Give me a beach, a boat, some visits to the mountains and I could be pretty happy without a lot of $$$

As for rich as money goes....rich is a WHOLE lot more than I have.

I'm not financially rich by any stretch but I live comfortably (by my standards) and have my share of toys. I feel rich because I have healthy kids & a healthy grandson, an awesome girlfriend and a steady job. I'm not wanting for anything and I'm happy therefore that is my definition of rich.

Financially Rich would be if you can afford everything you want and need on a sustainable basis with the security that for the most part you will have that forever without working unless you want too. I'd never have a 10000 square foot home even if I had a Billion dollars. Million dollar rings fancy cars, no way. I never understand the Mentality of 99% of those that get rich quick.

I just think it extremely tacky to spend like that, much better use of excess money can be found.

I guess that's why it is so subjective and individual. Some might find it tacky NOT to have 15 Ferraris in the driveway if they had bags of money.

Of course but I Personally find 15 Farraris Morally repugnant. I think it is a balance some people that are rich can give everything up like Mother Teresa (from extremely wealthy family ) I find that to be very commendable but I don't think I could do it! A certain amount of comfort is understandable. Its hard to say where my line is but at a certain point it becomes "I think I'll have those 15 Farraris, let them eat cake".

Interesting thread. I've always thought of Rainey's kind of "rich" more as "independently wealthy" meaning that I had an independent source of income that gave me the freedom to really do what I wanted in life. I think in $ and cents that would probably mean an annual income somewhere between 300 and 500 K CDN. My gut feeling is that rich is when you have much more wealth and income than you need to meet your needs....of course they say that your lifestyle will increase to meet or exceed your income so maybe that's not a realisitic view.
