Good morning fellow kicksters.

It's hot and rainy here today and I'm just not feeling great, so this is an unplanned rest day for me today.

I hope you all have a great day and run a few miles for me!

Labduckie, Peruvian Restaurant in Portland. You have to tell me where is at so I can visit the place next time I go down to Portland.

4 easy recovery miles for my wings today, but before that I had breakfast in bed...just the way to start out the day!

8 miles total at 8:49 pace this morning with 6 x 1/2 mile at tempo pace. Not quite full recovery between each. Work stress had me thinking I wasn't going to be able to manage any tempos miles today so I ran tempo repeats instead. That worked well and I got through them okay. I didn't time or track the repeats. I just ran at an effort level that felt like tempo (HM to 10K pace, but probably more like HM pace today).

Mariposai - is it your birthday today?

I tried throwing at the community track meet last night, but right after the shot put competition, it started to rain again after holding off for a couple of hours. It was just enough to get the discus circle too wet to spin effectively. I wound up sticking around, but all of the competition left. Actually there was no one in my AG anyway, but I'd hoped that there would be some bodies there to create a little bit of competitive juice flow. As it turned out, one young guy did show up, so we measured each other's throws. My first throw was my best - went downhill from there. But I'm not going to get disappointed - we should have great conditions for the ESG's, and it'll all come together.

I have my second to last (prior to the ESG 10,000m) hard running workout today at lunchtime. Schedule calls for 4*800m @ 5k minus :10 pace (3:15’s). If I rest for full recovery in between, I should be able to do that workout, but had hoped that by this point in my training I'd be able to do all 4 with 3:00 jog recoveries in between. I guess there's only one way to find out.

Morning

Managed to avoid the rain so far today and do two training sessions. 10.4 miles of running at a comfy 7.20 pace and then 10 miles on the bike working on some hills.

All good and looking forward to my revenge during Thursdays Speed session on the bike.

Yesterday was our hottest day of the year so far. Heat index at 5 pm. was 110 degrees. Looks like we might get some rain/relief by the weekend.

Belated birthday wishes to Labduck for yesterday.... and a very happy birthday to Mariposai today!

It's been a bad-news good-news sort of day so far:

good news: got out early enough to make the 9:30am yoga class this morning

bad news: came home to a power failure at home

good news: the power came back on within minutes of being home

bad news: my sacrum and pelvis is all sore from being made crooked in yoga class

good news: ... (day ain't over yet)

My bet is that the good news will win over the bad.

Enjoy the day, folks!

Yes, we have some birthday action going on. Our butterfly is another year younger today, and yesterday I think I missed Lab's big day, so HB to you too.

Brian, you are really running and training well. Always glad to see how you are going and good luck in the Empire State Games. Let us know how you did. Is Al Oerter going to be there?

Nice workout Bill. Seems like a lot of people are finding ways to get their quality work in, but without the dangerous high speed in the summer. So more tempo work I see.

Today I did an easy 6 and in the middle of it did 4 x 400 at about 7:36 pace. Now packed and headed off to Pittsburgh for a day. Spareribs

Happy Birthday Nancy!! I hope many butterflies give you birthday kisses today!

I ran a short 5K last night - a few hills, a bit of trail, nothing difficult but felt good. Will get in a longer run tonight after work. Hoping for at least a solid hour - but we'll see how the mid 90's treat me. I might end up in a pool of tears on the side of the road and melt.

One last coolish morning before the heat moves in again, so I left early on a long bike ride. I was glad I had my Edge GPS with me, as I took a new route and started thinking I'd made a wrong turn about 20 miles out. Luckily the GPS showed that I was only a mile from my destination (and breakfast!).

It was heating up by the time I got back home, having ridden 46 miles on a road & trail combination. I'm getting in shape for a week-long tour in 3 weeks where I'll be doing 60+ miles a day with some challenging hills thrown in along the way.

The June Masters Miles summary is posted in the corresponding thread. Note that this is my last month of doing the summary, so it's time for someone else to step up to it!

The humidity will be lower than a morning run, right? That's what I kept telling myself when I headed out for my trackwork last night.

Thanks for the months that you have taken on the Monthly Mileage Roch! Your work is much appreciated!

Opie, I guess humidity is more in the morning, but honestly, even when folks here say "gosh, it's humid today!" - I really don't feel it that much. My definition/perception of humidity still lies in that of the midwest. So our humid days here pale in comparison. I can probably count on my fingers the number of summer days (over the past several years!) where humidity here might have felt something like midwest humidity. But, yes, it will feel pretty dry by late afternoon/evening. Was this your way of saying "buck up Tamster and no tears or melting allowed!"

Happy Birthday Mari and Lab! Soon you'll be old enough to hang here legally.

30 min on the elliptical followed by 300 crunches. That's all the time I had before heading over to the clinic for my semi-annual CT Scan. The good news is that during the follow-up with the oncologist he announced I don't have to see him for 2 years!!!! I'm almost 3 yrs C-free, which is nice. So I'm psyched.

Now if I could just get rid of this weird muscle problem. Has any one else had trouble with tightness high in the hamstring, which sometimes feels like a groin pull and at other times feels sore in front in the lower abdomen? My whole right cheek needs replacement it seems. I'm scheduled for my monthly deep tissue massage next week. Maybe I'll try to push it up.

I missed my chance yesterday. The Moody Blues was one of my favorite bands as an overly dramatic kid. I even quoted them in my H.S. year book for gawd's sake. :)
