I finally took the time the other night to price out the cost of going to Tahoe for 10 days to try and run the Tahoe Triple and i can't effin afford it. I guess I was naive in how much the flight and hotel would cost me.

Oh well, time to find another race. I was thinking of trying the 50 Miler in Houston but now I can't find the link to the race.

That's too bad. Tahoe Triple's a great race. 10 days would be a big vacation, but
did you look into just 5 days, flying into Reno (on, say, southwest)? Rooms can be
found at about $60/night or less. That'll even give you a couple days at altitude,
which would be sufficient for most since the highest point is about 7200 ft and most
is in the mid 6000s.

Does this have the Texas 50 you're talking about: http://www.tejastrails.com/ ?

Thanks for the ideas Formationflier. Since I live in the lowlands of America I figured I would need several days before the race to try and get used to the altitude so that was why I was going to take 10 days out there. I might do a little more research about staying a little farther out from the lake itself but I have no clue how far would be to far to deal with driving before and after marathons for 3 straight days.

The race was called the Sunmart 50 and it was in Houston. Hopefully it is still around.

The Sunmart 50 is on the Rocky Raccoon course, usually in December. Most is still
TBD, but you should eventually be able to link to the race from the Hill Country
Trail Runners website: http://www.hillcountrytrailrunners.c...cal_race.shtml
on the calendar in the December section.

As far as Tahoe Triple goes, I live at sea level also - I stayed at the Race Hotel
for $55/night (I think it was the Horizon Hotel and Casino). The neighboring hotels
had similar deals. Those casino hotels tend to be pretty cheap, especially when you
take the race's room block and it's not in ski season. Southwest into Reno is generally
pretty cheap as well.

I arrived two days early and just jogged around a bit in the
higher elevations. I had to slow down quite a bit for a day or so, but the altitude
wasn't high enough to cause any major problems. You'll just have to go slightly
slower than your sea level pace.
