OK everyone, get out your checkbooks and pre-enter 2008 in the date field for the next 5 checks.

Now that you've done that, I hope you're all getting out there for your first logged run of the year.

Myself, I'm just in the door from a midnight 5k race. We ran an out and back along the dark bike paths next to the river; flat and fast other than 2 bridge crossings. It was my first time out in racing flats and my calves are letting me know about it with some pain from the stretch resulting from having no heel rise. Anyways, I got 2nd place in my AG and 17th overall with a 20:43 (6:40/mi), so WOOT!, New Year's hardware! I hung out with Econo from Boomers and she got a 2nd AG also with a big PR!

It's 1:49 here, so I'm off to bed now. Great runs and races and "other" everyone!

Nice work, cousin Duck! By the way, nice win for the Ducks yesterday...

I'll be heading outside for about 13 miles in a little while. Anyone else doing that much today? Is it possible that I might be ahead of our entire 30s group for 2008, at least for one day???

Duck what a cool sounding race! They used to have the 'Midnight Mile' here on new years eve at Midnight. Complete with pizza and sparkling cider afterwards.

20:43 is a great time - and congrats on the hardware!

They've gone without a New Years race for two years here, and they are resurrecting it with a New Years Day 10k starting this year. So I'll be racing a 10k at 1PM today

If only this lower leg pain would go away. I think it may be my peroneal tendon again, so it may be that I won't be running for 2 weeks instead of 1. Gonna go down to the building gym for some elliptical action in a few.

Happy New Year!

Duck, what an awesome way to enter the new year, I wish they had something like that down here. I wonder if I would ever be able to fall asleep after a race at that time, that must be hard. Myron, good luck in the 10k! Nettie, I hope you feel better soon, take it easy.

I ran my tempo run today. I had to adjust, once again, because of the weather. I am really starting to get frustrated about how to change things up to get the same training effect without killing myself via heat stroke. The fronts in central Fla. right now, so that's cool. They is talk of possible record lows tomorrow--yeah baby! It's going to be fun for a few days.

I ended up running 11 with a little over 3 at tempo pace, probably should have been a little longer but it was my first attempt in a while. I love the new shoes, it's nice running with "less" underfoot, so that was good. I still find these workouts really hard, I'm in a constant battle with the brain to keep moving fast when it's telling me I'm going to die and better slow down. Damn logic keeps messing me up, I have got to work on that.

It was great seeing so many people out there this morning. I must have seen 200 bikers, 50 walkers and 10 other runners!

Check out the time/date/temps...madness, I tell ya.

Hi All! Was going to run 2 today, but given that my usual training schedule calls for 2 days off after LR and that my knee is a little wonky... I think I'll stick to yoga and pilates today and rest running wise. Might take the pup for a walk today later, though if the wind dies down (he's afraid of the wind). we've already lost power once.

Just got back in a little bit ago from 5K in my sister's neighborhood (she lives in the house where I grew up). I really had wanted to run last night but I was so sleepy by midnight At least the predicted winter storm passed us by with no more than a dusting of snow. It's windy here this a.m. but temps weren't too bad.

Good run to start what should be a good year!

morning!

I wasn't sure what was on the schedule for today, so I thought 8 miles on the first day of '08 sounded good. Ran a point to point with 15-20 mph winds at my back the whole way. Warm enough here at the shore for shorts and a light wind jacket. Not JenRuns warm, but beautiful for a Jan. 1st run!

Congrats on a great New Years race, Duck!
Good luck with your 10k race today, Myron!
And, Kris, I decided not to run last night either. I didn't get home till about 1 am and was afraid if I ran I'd never get to sleep!

Happy New Year, everyone!

Ugh. Just back from my run, and it wasn't pretty. I managed 12.5 miles at a 8:43 pace. But I was hoping to go a little farther and a bit faster.

My legs were hurting me the whole time. My feet, my knees, my hips... everything! Not a fun way to start off a new year. I'm pretty sure the reason for this is that this pair of shoes is at the end of the line. I got 384 miles out of them, and that's on the high side, for what I typically get out of my Wave Riders. So I'll give these shoes the ol' heave ho, and hope that my legs feel better on my next run...

I went out for a run...it was the make up run for the race that was cancelled because of the storm a couple of weeks ago. The sponsoring running club has an annual NYD fun run, and they invited those who'd registered for the cancelled run. It was a great run for me, even a little hung over and hot. I am so happy!!! 3.25m, no idea time, don't really care...fun run, not a race, who cares? Plus, I ran with my fellow Slowmen; we had a great time, we all won raffle prizes (I won an $85 "muscular treatment"--no idea), and now we're meeting up for brunch. Good stuff....

We're going to do a family hike up Mt. Pisgah this morning. Should be a good workout with DD2 in the backpack.

I did a local race here in Minneapolis yesterday. A lap around one of the lakes (3.22 miles) on icy trails. Had not a good time relatively speaking, but somehow ended up second out of about 200 people. Took me by surprise, since I've had a really poor year of racing. But a good way to end it.

Procrastinating on running a quick five miler this morning. It's 2 out, with a windchill of -14. Urgh.
