morning, Kath It's a gorgeous, sunny morning here. I'm heading out for a (still short) run.

Sorry I missed the rest of the Philly talk yesterday -- I went right from work, to drop off my car to get fixed, to get my rental, then to work at the running store. Busy day. Jill and Baggs (and Pacer -- you're doing the 3:10?) -- the weather will be perfect for you guys. I really am excited for you.

Howdy folks.

I've decided to suck it up and actually start incorporating speedwork into my training. Today was the first attempt.

0.0 - 1.0 miles @ normal cruising speed

1.0 - 1.5 miles @ .50 (mile/speed on the tm) faster than cruising

1.5 - 1.75 miles @ cruising speed

1.75 - 2.25 @ faster speed

2.25 - 2.50 @ cruising speed

2.50 - 2.75 @ faster speed

2.75 - 3.0 @ another.50 faster speed (total of 1 mph faster than cruising speed.)

/pantpantpant. It wasn't enough to kill me by any means, but that last 1/4 mile was HARD. Ow. I feel good, though! Though I'll feel better after my 10:30am deep tissue massage!

Good luck to our racers today! Vrooom!

Hi Everyone-- Go Philliers!! Excited for everyone, once again wish I could be there (especially as we now have 4+ inches of snow on the ground). Pretty, but...hmm...it was 65 Monday.

I gotta say that I think Ailarie is my inspiration right now. Anyone else noting how far she's come? I'm really impressed with her dedication.

I'm so happy to hear you are running again, Solar!

I've been incredibly sick. I'll spare you the details, but after round two at the doc, she said, "NO running AT ALL until this is completely gone" as there was concern about pneumonia. Oh, and if you get a cough--honey works to calm it. Better than almost anything, actually.

I have a tradition about running in the first snow, so sad I can't go today. I am watching Spirit of the Marathon instead.

I pretty much need to start all over again--I've missed a good three weeks--run here and there, but mostly not. Ideas on what I should do for a schedule?? I'm a little flummoxed. I think my fitness isn't completely gone, but it's not good, either.

Be good you guys--fast and pretty--numbers on front--happy snow day MN/IA/MI peeps!

My pal J and I got out for a run/walk on campus. The app on my phone said 5.02 in 54 and change. Unusually speedy for us, so she checked it on mapmyrun. Closer to 4. Still happy, just not quite as impressed

Jeesh Cranie! Enough with this cold business, chica! Hope the Dr. gets you back up to snuff soon. I've no advice on your comeback, but you're pretty athletic anyway, so I'm sure you're going to bounce back quickly. Thanks for your kind words about my own running this year. My legs are beaten up in all kinds of ways, and that's certainly no fun, but hopefully I'm on my way to becoming a stronger runner.

One nice thing about being on reduced mileage is that it's much easier to squeeze in a 30 minute run than a 60 minute run! That said, I'll get out for a few miles here in a little bit.

So far today I've purchased some tile to create a base for the wood store that's coming this week, attended the Western Regional XC meet (saw the women, had to leave before the men) and met with an arborist to walk the property and get an expensive quote for clean up, removal and trimming. Thanks to this house we're going to be very poor for a few years! Too many projects and things to purchase. Now I'm going to watch the Auburn football game and figure out the tile placement.

Best wishes to all of the Phillie runners!

shake that thing crane! and keep your snow please. i'm not ready for it.

duck, i'm for hire for that outside work. i could use some good physical labor to offset the lack of roadwork. in fact, i have some chainsaw action on my schedule today. i have to cut up the rest of the maple that we had felled last year, split it and then give it away.

ok, so don't tell my doc, but while i was on the mill yesterday (12.5%) i increased the speed to make a jogging motion for 1.5 miles (5 mph). so nice to be dripping in sweat and out of breath. no pain just really short of breath and my HR was up about 10 bpm. my knee felt weak/wonky but no pain. i have a follow up w/the ortho this week, likely scheduling the date for the scope.

stallone looks so different pre-roids.

ok, the FIL & SMIL are here. time to entertain.

Ooops! I fell in line behind Crane. Hold that Phillie thought...

Started the day with 3.2 miles in the neighborhood with Tycho riding shotgun on his bike, then it was on to car repair to change some bulbs. Now I'm scraping glued down carpet and prepping surface to lay the tile for the wood stove pad. Oh, and watching the NFL.

Jeez Melis, I think marathons make you sick! Didn't you get horrendously sick with a respiratory thing after Chicago last year?

I had to pop in and post this. It's a FB post to one of my friend's status messages:

How many inches of snow did you get? Shari said on Sat. that they had 4-6" already that a.m. Gwen ran a 5 mile marathon in the snow in the Twin Cities Sat. a.m.! Thought she was crazy! Hope you are back home real soon! I called Friday ...evening so that must be why no answer!

I actually guffawed when I read it.
