Hope Johnny is having a great time!

10 miles this morning on my "rolling hills route." Thankfully no problems from the twinges I had after last Wednesday's speed workout. I ran again with Kristin who says she's willing to run slow, but keeps edging up the pace. Even though it happens to be a (faster) pace that I'm comfortable with, my intention for today was to stick around 11 mpm (per my mcmillan calculator recommendation). Oh well, it's all good. We ended up averaging 10:50.

I LOVE that website BTW and am verrrry busy designing my game plan for the next 11 weeks to the HM.

They FINALLY posted the finish line photos from the May Rhody Run 12K.

I don't look like I'm going very fast, but my pace for the last half mile was at 8:30 mpm, which for me is amazing!

Looks to me like you're moving pretty good HappyFeat!! Nice pic. Sounds like you had a good run.

No run for me today; spent all day at church with the youth and kids. I'm tired.

I'm also going to cut back either mileage or intensity next week. My mind says go but my body says no. 1 more easy week wont' make or break my Oct marathon. If I have to I'll just run it and not race it. Still get the state.

Go Johnny go Johnny be good.

Hi Ks & HappyFeat & all who follow.

HF...nice run for you today and a very nice picture as well....color coordinated & everything.....you're such the fashionista...have you been confering with spareribs about race day garb??

Hope you're feelin better Ks....just "run it" huh....still way faster than the rest of us mere mortals.

They re-routed both courses at the SOB, due to major snow this spring. The starting line is at the ski lodge around 6500 feet. The 15K (now 16K) took off in the exact opposite direction from the route I was used to. First 2.5 miles dropped about 12-1400 feet, a quad burning bomber on one of the nordic ski trails in the area... I started near the back & just tried not to fall down. The next "just under 5 mile loop" was about half on single track, half on a forest service road. I managed to pass several people here, but they were mostly the ones that went out too fast and as soon as the course went uphill just a little bit, they were either walking or running very slow. The last 2.5 miles was, you guessed it, uphill back to the start. Rip would of loved it. I probably power walked 80% of it at least. According to the garmin, 9.9 miles in 2 hours & a few seconds. 4th out of ?? (at least 7) in the M60-69 AG). Darn, I wanted that 3rd place swag. It was a cowbell. I could of annoyed Mrs. Johnny for hours with that thing. The new course was beautiful though, tall doug firs, meadows, flowers, occasionallly a vista would open up and you could see Mt. McLaughlin & Emigrant Lake. A nice way to spend a Saturday morning.

Tamster....looked for Justin prior to the start of the 50K. Due to the course change, there was no early start, so it was a bit crowded. I didn't know his last name, so I looked through a list of all the runners. There was only one Justin, last name started with R. I looked at most of the 30 something year old guys. Never did see his bib number. He probably noticed some old hippie looking guy staring intently at people and he went the other way. I wouldn't blame him.

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys

Great job on a challenging course, Johnny - I'm proud of you! It sounds like the scenery made it all the more worthwhile.

Nice achievement for your mentee, TW.

KS -- "My mind says go, but my body says no." -- I have sooo been there! Running has such a large psychological component for us - well me anyway.

You are wise to respect what your body is trying to tell you and modify your gameplan. You can only benefit from it.

Super race, Johnny! Too bad you didn't get the cowbell. You can never have too much cowbell!

Nice run today, HappyFeat... and nice race pic! You look like you're moving fine!

KS, like the pirate says, you've got nothing to prove. Dial it back a bit and you'll be fine!

Hi TW!!!

A planned nada for me today, hitting the neighbourhood charity garden tour to get some ideas, then stopping off at a property just north of us to get some pics of giant hogweed. It's a huge threat in this area, poisonous as all get out, and the provincial invasive species hotline wanted me to get some photographic evidence that they're just a mile up the road from me so they can get the proper authorities in to deal with them. Blinkin' things are about 12' tall and look almost like trifids!!

Excellent John! Wish you could have gotten that cowbell though, but you still did fantastic! I want to do the 15K next year and if you do it also, I'll have to follow your lead on not going out too fast. I know I would so want to fly down those first few miles.

The Justin you noticed on the roster, was the Justin I work with. I don't know his time yet, but he did tell me on Facebook that he loved it and can't wait to tell me all the details on Monday. I heard King smoked Skaggs by 20 minutes and Shelton won the females. hmmm, wonder what Jenn wore? did you see her?

congrats again John!

I went out for an 8.4 mile run this morning and thought of you running SOB. Great day for it, but I imagine it probably started to feel pretty warm .

Thanks Tamster....hopefully next year they'll be back to the old course though. That last uphill was killer.

You are correct, Max King smoked the course, beating Erik by every bit of 15-16 minutes...Erik looked a little thrashed (by his standards) at the end too. Jenn Shelton was 1st overall woman & 7th (?) overall. Did I see her?? As you well know, Johnny sees ALL the wimmens....although I prefer 'em a little more seasoned, so to speak. No bikini this time, just a sports bra / matching shorts. She looked pretty strong at the end. Talked to Hal for a while, he's going to that Mount Blanc race in Europe in August again

Well the weekend is winding down, ran an easy 4 this afternoon and did an hour of yoga this morning. The weather has been perfect here this weekend - so beautiful. I just want to enjoy it and not do any work around the place...so I haven't. Next weekend though I've committed to start on cleaning/stripping paint from the front porch railings and prepare for primer. At 42 feet times 3 feet high, that's a lot o' peeling paint - yes I measured! Have to start somewhere though; so this will be my stab at it. Of course I won't begin until after my 14M run I have planned for next Saturday morning.

Happy Sunday, folks!

Got out to one of my favourite forest tracts for a nice trail run with my running partner. We hadn't run together since before the 50K. Poison ivy everywhere.

We got in 7 miles of nice hilly, twisting and gnarly mountain bike trail.

Felt wonderful!!!!!

DH is BBQing some turkey thighs, I've got a nice salad together with greens from the garden, and the pino grigio is chilling in the fridge.

Life is good!
