Afternoon PT and those to follow.

I must have a virus on my home computer. I posted Thurs night, tried to start a thread twice Fri., and once today. KR seemed to take my posts but when I went back nothing shows up after 9.29 TW post. So I check on DW pc and there it all is. I listened to a computer show this morning while driving and there is a new virus virtually undetectable by anti virus software called PC Shield 2012. They say it hides files, eliminates shortcuts, etc. And it's really difficult to get rid of. oy, I think I might have it.

20 moh this morning at 8:19 avg pace. Slowest first mile at 8:40 and fastest last mile at 7:56. Then went and rode the church lawn tractor for 4 hours. That was worse than the run as the ground is so rough from no rain down here.

Been to the hosptial visiting a church member and now it's football time. Go Cornhuskers!!

No LR for me this weekend. I'm easing back into the routine. 6.5 miles today. If I'd have run another half mile, I'd have had 30 for the week - but I didn't know it at the time and my stomach was killing me. So I had to get home and eat something.

Nice long run KS

Have fun running in the wintertime TW

Hi HF

First, I made it the whole way without taking any wrong turns. I got to the park early to get registered and did a little over a mile warmup.

With temps in the low 40s I decided to keep my sweat pants on and wear a pair of jersey gloves. My headphones kept my ears warm so I didn't need a hat.

After 4 days of rain, the trails were a big mudfest. I thought the Woodstock run was muddy but this was much worse. The first mile was on a lot of grass and I went through in 7:45 in

second place. Right after that another runner passed me. We then got into the mudpit and I passed the next couple miles in a little under 10 minutes which I thought must have been long. At 4 miles I caught the second place runner. At one point a little after 6 miles we hit a grassy stretch where they placed a sign saying "This is the easy part". They were right as I glanced at my garmin and was running 6:45 pace. This didn't last long though and we were soon on the slowest part of the course. It was a very narrow, curvy, muddy section right by the water. I was over 10 minute miles through this section. I hadn't seen another runner for about an hour until just past 11 miles when all the sudden the leader was just up ahead. I thought I could catch him and put a hard surge in for a half mile. He heard me coming though and sped up and I couldn't catch him. He beat my by about 30 seconds. I finished in 1:59:25 (9:07/mile) After the race, he said he backtracked a little to make sure he didn't take a wrong turn and would have beat me by a couple more minutes. I even thought during that stretch we might have missed a turn as the blue flags we were following were replaced by light flags the 5 mile walk was following. Eventually there was a blue flag as we were going the right way. As for the hardware, they somehow missed getting awards for 2nd and 3rd overall in the half and 10k so they will eventually mail it too us.

Now I have to rest up for a half marathon next week a little north of Chicago. That will give me 7 different states racing in the last 10 weeks.

Nice racing, Rip. I guess that mud didn't bother you too much. Nice LR, ks. HF, I think we can round you up to 30.

I set out for 10, mostly on gravel roads, but decided to walk it in when I reached 8. My knee, though not painful, was nagging at me constantly, which is unusual. I will baby it and hopefully find ourt what's going on when I see the Ortho this week.

Sorry about the Cornkuskers, ks. Welcome to the Big 10.

Yay Rip!! Am glad to hear there were no directional mishaps this time. Congrats on the hardware!

Nice 20 miler yesterday, KS!

Hi TW! Hi HF! Hi FO! Hi PT!

I've been more or less AWOL now for a few days, as life has just been a bit too busy. Ran the 25K at the Run For The Toad yesterday. My time was 2:48....23rd AG.... 5 minutes slower than last year, under better (non-muddy) conditions. Temps started out at around 4°C, with a few snowflakes coming down (eeeek!)..... forcing the first LS run of the fall. Many runners went out overdressed.... with full length tights and jackets, some even with fleece on. Was glad I chose shorts with a 3/4 zip merino wool IceBreaker top, with a light vest. Before finishing half of the first loop, I had the vest rolled down and tucked into my fuel belt and felt comfortable clothing-wise the rest of the way. Unfortunately, I hadn't really trained fully for this, with only three runs within the last 6 weeks over 10 miles and the longest being 13.6 miles. The injection for the neuroma didn't work, so the foot remained a bit sore, even with the padding, and after the first 16-18K, my hamstrings started complaining rather loudly. So I concentrated on my glutes, walked up the worst of the hills, kept my stride short and got 'er done. Guess I should just be pleased I was still able to break 3 hours. They gave everyone a nice finishing medal, plus a nice meal after....all 1350 of us!

Rested today... will do a recovery run tomorrow.
